Is It Worth It!!!!!! Help!!!

louisianatigger,

I think it was worth it to us. I looked at the cost for a NICE hotel room for a week against the cost of DVC. To us it has been well worht it for the type of room and the number of days we stay. It's a more relaxing vacation because we get a Annual Pass and come and go as we please to the Parks. PM me it you have more questions.

Good Luck,
Debbie

It really needs to be a personal decision for everyone. To me, a lot of that depends on when you will go and how big the accomodations need to be. For us, we just bought after a couple of years of looking. Our first major trip will be to SSR during adventure season for 5 nights in a two bedroom. Right there, that uses 135 of our 150 points for the year. And remember, this is adventure (low point) season during the week. Adding to that a 2 night stay in HHI and we've already blown through our points for the year and then some. Point is, it's really easy to spend points going only once a year. Compare that to what the rack rates would be and, to me, it is a no-brainer.

Most people (me included) think it's very much worth it if you go at least every other year. If you go once per year and stay onsite in moderates or deluxes it is almost certainly worth it.

Run the numbers yourself and decide. How much are you spending on hotel rooms at WDW in the average year? How many nights is that, and when? Then look at the DVC points chart linked at the top of this page. How many points would you need to stay that same number of nights? You can easily calculate whether you'd be better off buying points, renting from a current DVC member, or paying cash for your rooms.

Just my $.02.

Thinking of buying dvc. Question, If you only go once a year or do you really need to go at least twice a year.

It is worth ist for us! We go there once a year. We buy AP and go back a couple of weeks earlier the next year, so we get 2 vacations out of them. We always stayed at moderates before, but DVC is so much nicer and we just get a studio. (There is only 3 of us) I know once I start with a 1 bedroom, I'm going to always want one! :rotfl: Now that we own at DVC, we hope to go there more often. It just made sense for us, because Disney was getting our money every year anyway! :tink:

Like others have posted, it is a personal decision. If you can stay at the value resorts and be happy, then stay there. But witht the cost of inflation those prices will rise too. You buy in at one price and that does not change, however you do have annual dues. But if you want moderate or better resorts then it is best to buy. If you go once a year I think it is well worth it. We like to take more smaller trips instead of one or two weeks. The only regret I have is not buying sooner. Good Luck:sunny:

We thought it was worth it. We have 4 kids so we either need 2 rooms or a 2 br villa. My dh also travels alot and is used to 4 and 5 star hotels, so going cheaper isn't an option for him. We figured we could go every 18 months and it would still be a bargain. Some bonuses for us is that it forces us to take a family vacation and not let work get in the way. It offers alot of flexibility and you can try other places. It is not a decision I regret and the kids and I love planning our next trip.

No - once a year, or even every other year can be worthwhile. A great idea is to get an annual pass, and go 2 or 3, or even 4 times every two years, then have a year off. That is what i am planning to do - have 3 or 4 trips from one pass, every two years, then take a year off. The trouble is, with an annual pass, you really are tempted to go more.

everyone says it's worth it only if you go every other year. it seems like it could be worth it even if you bought a very small number of points (less than 100) from resale and with banking and borrowing you could use 3 years worth of points and have 2 years off in between to free you up to go other places if you wanted. or you could go each year for maybe 4-5 nights in a studio. i would guess that after your first stay DVC you would see why everyone loves it so much.
perhaps the veterans can help me on this. would it not be cost effective to do this? it seems like it would work.

I'm there!!!! Just need to show my bride, this really needs to be a family decision with no regrets.I'm going to bring her on the DVC tour in April. That will be the best thing I can do.Just let the MOUSE work his Magic at THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello
My wife and I have been DVC memebers since 2001 when we purchased our membership duriong a spur of the moment WDW vacation at the Now defunct Disney Institute(Saratoga Springs). We love being members of DVC. It is a great fit for us and our 3 children. Since the purchase we have done some really cool trips with the family.
I know that it every one says that the purchase is a personal decision and personally I am happy we did it.
Right now we are planning our next trip to WDW in November of this year and we can not wait.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to post us here.
