Is it worth an extra £175 pp

to fly out on the earlier flight. We are only talking 1.5 hours earlier.

I will be on my own as hubby is meeting us out there.

By that I mean on my own with three kids. (not toddlers, youngest 11 eldest 16)

What time does the flight you are currently booked on arrive? And what time does the earlier flight get there? Over £500 for an extra hour and a half sounds like a lot to me, but more details may provide reason to justify it.

One gets in 3.30 and the other gets in at 5pm

We are on the later one from Manchester arrives 17:55 (earlier 15:25) so 2 and half hours later, I wouldn't pay £50pp myself never mind £175pp. just means we can unpack and goto bed rather than trying to stay awake a few hours. Your body clock is 5 hours infront of Florida time on arrival so the later flight works better for us.

I wouldnt pay it - I would buy some new things for the kids for the flight to entertain them and take the later flight and keep the money for spending on my holiday.

Even so, I dont think I would do it. An hour and a half is really not much extra time and as Wayne so aptly pointed out, arriving a bit later keeps you up long enough to be tired so you slip into the EST timezone much better. If it were 4 hours or more, then yes, I would consider it, but I don't think 90 minutes will make much difference. Imagine you go to the trouble of changing it to the earlier flight and you are delayed for an hour. You end up where you started off anyway.

We always take the earlier flight. We like to arrive in plenty of time to get unpacked, look around wherever we're staying, and then head off for dinner.

I dont think its worth it. You might get delayed anyway or like us last year end up waiting a couple of hours before we could go through immigration as the computers were down !

For us at the moment it is worth it - before we had DD it didn't matter to us but that hour and half makes the world of difference with her.

It means we land and get to the resort in daylight and we can head out and get something to eat before she wants to fall asleep and we have found that by getting her to eat before bed she sleeps later the next morning and helps us get in to a routine. I should add that she is awake for 8 hours out of the 9 hour flight minimum (and she is only 2!) so that makes a difference to her tiredness.

However I am sure that soon that won't matter as much however we usually book before the early flight becomes more expensive so I have had to make that decision!

I wouldnt bother. Personally knowing my luck the earlier plane would get delayed and the later one arrive earlier

I wouldn't bother - if you are being met the other end, even driver tiredness is not going to be an issue and £500 buys an awful lot of goodies out there!!!

No chance that I'd bother, our first day is for Downtown Disney at most, usually just a walk around the resort then a quick meal and an early night.

When you say it's not out of your pocket, surely if it's out of your husbands it's the same thing anyway?

No way! First days only good for flying, checking in and maybe grabbing some food or checking out the resort before the need for sleep kicks in. Just pocket the money and spend it on extra goodies whilst you're out there

Well flights are booked and it is the early flight out to Orlando and the early flight back but that was more about getting on the new Airbus. Had slight problem though, whilst i was booking mouse must have moved and I was so concerned about checking the right times and getting out to pick my youngest from youth club that I missed the fact that the stupid slider had moved and had us coming back 29th August instead of 1 Sep.

I rang Virgin straight away, was on hold for about 15 minutes and then got confronted by this not particularly nice man who told me that it was £360 to change the dates. I told him I had literally just booked it and asked to speak to a manager, he refused to put me through so I had no choice but to pay the £360 to change the flights.

Bearing in mind that I was actually in tears, my husband is meeting us out there, and we are separated for months at a time, he is meeting us for just under two weeks and this was effectively knocking off three days with him.

Later had reason to call back only to speak to a fabulous guy who when I told him what had happened ask me to hold and then came back and told me that I had been overcharged and that although there was a charge it was only £120.

Oh yes we went for the early flights as we won't be as quick getting through customs on our own so the earlier flight will be better for us, otherwise I will be driving around trying to find our accom at about 1pm our time.

On top of that hubby considers me and the kids to be precious cargo and wants us to get a cab to and from the airport uk side. He is concerned about me driving 2.5 hours on the morning we get back. My problem is that I am just not comfortable getting a cab from my house advertising the fact that we are away.
