We are considering ways to save a bit of money on our upcoming WDW vacation. Currently we are booked for April 24th - 30th, Standard Club, with an AP rate. The total is $2216.28. The main reason we booked CL was for the sunrise safari, but now we are wondering whether it is really "worth it". Downgrading from CL to pool view and dropping the Sunrise safari will save us $734.18!

I know this may sound odd, but we don't care about the savannah view. the thing that actually convinced us to stay at AKL was the decor, the restaurants and the gorgeous pool area. We are perfectly content to look out over the pool.

With that being said, what are the best pool view rooms? I've heard Zebra trail is nice as there are windows on either side of the hallway, so you can see the savannah on one side and the pool area on the other as you walk to your room. We would prefer a less obstructed view, should we request floor 4 or 5 to get that?

Thanks!

I have been doing some checking for a May 26-Jun 1 trip and the "Spring" special that disney is offering now is showing during the time we are going to get a "club" level room is a savings of $568.96from the original price. Is this really a good deal? If it is, would I still be able to get this deal if we went through a TA? We've never stayed at AKL, in 2007 we were supposed to stay there but ended up moving to OKW because of the construction that was going on at that time for the Villas. Any help would be appreciated. We need to make a decision on where to stay by the end of next month. TIA!

We're eating OOP on our upcoming trip to AKL. Can anyone describe the African Inspired Breakfast Platter that is on the menu at the Mara? We wish there was some place to just get eggs or eggs with bacon and/or sausage. Neither DH or myself are supposed to eat potatoes (sweet potatoes are fine) and DH is limited to 1 grain serving daily. I realize we can get the eggs with hash browns and biscuit and just throw away half of what is on the plate. We already know we'll stray from doctor's recommendation at Disney but are trying to keep within reason when possible. We have a pool view room, not a villa with a means to cook. The only yogurt I remember seeing in 2010 was a parfait with a sugary granola mixed in. If they have plain or fruit flavored yogurt that is another alternative for us.

Have you checked allears.net? they have very extensive menus for all the restaurants. I'm sure if you tell the people at the Mara they won't include the potatoes or might substitute another egg. And I'm almost certain they have plain yogurt in the fridges there.

 Just curious what time the fire and folk tale telling begin? Also wanted to know about viewing the animals with night goggles and what that process looks like? I'm planning a some AKV time where we really get to explore and enjoy the resort. I started a thread and realized I've got the pros right here. :thumbsup2

Alison just posted a schedule of events on her TR. I tried to go over and look in a new browser but my internet is going so slow today.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all CL rooms had savannah views?:confused3

If you're booking through DVC it is not guaranteed to be a Savannah View. I think it could also be a pool view. But otherwise yes, CL is Savannah View.

I think the convenience of the food and drinks from the lounge are worth it alone to do CL. That's just my opinion. You could estimate how much you would spend on food and drinks and how much the CL could save.

By the by, IMHO...it's SO worth it!

It really is quite a spectacular view...especially with Everest sort of set off in the distance.

I prefer Zebra trail, 4th floor, close to the elevators (which will get you away from Boma's roof):

The best pool view rooms, IMHO, are in bank 4423-4437 (but don't request by room number...you'll confuse the Room Assigner).

You can't get 5th floor...those are all DVC villas.

Actually that schedule I posted is one that Laura posted here after her August trip. Jenny asked the same question on my PTR, but I've never done any of those activities before. I was hoping I might get the chance on this trip.

Welcome Kathy, I have had a great experience with the Mara cooking breakfast to my order in my past stays. I have some food allergies which they were very happy to work with. I had eggs, ham and fresh fruit as my breakfast when we ate there. They also had some greek yogurt on one morning, not many so they may go quickly. Hope you have a wonderful vacation.

Thanks for the info on CL and Savannah views - I had read conflicting reports. I figured the king bed request is a long shot not just because there are so few of them, but according the one of the AK itinerary planning folks, a number are also disability-equiped. Just for future reference, I did have the option of selecting a room closer to transportation, however we are on DxDP and should probably look into walking to the parks instead of using the Disney Transport System!

In my opinion Cl is very much worth the cost. The sunrise safari is one of our very best memories from our stays at AKL. We also have done the Sunset Safari and enjoyed that so much with dinner at Jiko following the safari. We do not stay concierge on all of your trips but we love to when we can afford it or there is a special going on. The pampering CL gives you, the food, drinks and convenience of the lounge are so worth. AKL is one of the very best concierge lounges on property. :thumbsup2 The staff in the lounge are very helpful and more than willing to change a dining reservation or make a suggestion as well as get you a nice cold beer or glass of wine in the afternoon.

You can request to be placed anywhere you wish when you are staying concierge. I have a friend who loves to stay on the second floor all the way at the end of the trails. She feels it is more private and closer to the animals. She always stays concierge. So you could request a pool view and still do CL if you wish. However I doubt there would be a discount on the room.

I will add JMHO it is pretty wonderful to look out during the night and see giraffes sleeping under you window or wake up in the morning to zebras playing tag right out in front of you. Both we have experienced during our visits. I know you will have a fantastic trip at AKL no matter what your decision. Have fun planning! :goodvibes

Wow, this is a lot of information in this thread and I will have to go through some of it, but just wanted to post that I am finalizing the details on renting some points from a DVC member for AKV for the week of May 5th-12th and I am pretty excited. We are getting a two bedroom since we are traveling with some family.

We started out looking at 3 rooms at a Value Resort and that was around $800-900, then we bumped it up to moderates (POR) which was around $1300-1400 per room, then we look at the Dolphin which was about the same cost as POR, then I finally ended up going with the whole point rental thing to end up with AKV.

The member I am working with has been awesome so far and his references had nothing but nice things to say about him (one renter has rented 4 times from him, her mom 3 and 3 of her friends), so that puts my mind at ease quite a bit about the whole process.

Anyway, now that we finally picked a place I am going to do a little more research about the things around the resort and whatnot and this seems like a great thread to start at.

:welcome: Sounds like you are off to a very good start. :) There are many of us here who will be happy to answer questions. We all LOVE WDW and Kadani & AKL. Which brings to mind a questions for you. Are you renting at Kadani or Jambo house?

Sorry to hear that your son's party had to be rescheduled; that is such a big deal at that age! Hope he had a good time anyway!

And yeah, the GXXXX --->Patriots are going to the Superbowl!:woohoo:

We did end up having a great time even though only a few people showed up but sometimes the smaller parties are better.

Look---I corrected your sentence:lmao:

No work, I can barley sit up, have to have the foot propped up over my heart most of the time, no standing, no walking... so no work and yes I have been reading a lot and board of the TV already.

The computer is harder for me to use for some reason, I just get comfortable with it.

 Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

Things here are going well........ same old same old with PT and all that - I'm getting SO excited, tom. makes 14 days till the little man arrives - I can hardly wait!!!!

I didn't go back and look who posted the frunch recipe - but Thanks!!!! Made it yesterday and its SO good!!! :)

OK - so off to DS's honor roll assembly - You guys enjoy the rest of the week!!!! Hugs my friends!!!! :flower3:

We always get the egg, bacon & cheese sandwich for breakfast. :cloud9:

We rented points once and that was all it took to buy into DVC so you better start saving now. There is no going back after that:lmao:

We are renting at Kidani. I am definitely looking forward to it, I just sent the deposit to the DVC member 15 minutes ago.

Ha, I don't think I have to worry about that, at least not yet. Right now I have to worry about some other bills and whatnot first. Plus, I am still dealing with fixing our house because we had a really bad flood in our area back in September where our home was flooded and I still don't have the house completely fixed from that.

So this vacation is a way for us to unwind and enjoy ourselves since I have been spending so much time working on my house. Maybe someday we will look in to DVC if we go on more vacations, but who knows at this point.

Just popping in to say hi:goodvibes

Can't get caught up:confused3 I went back to work this week after being sick now for 3 weeks...I'm still coughing:scared1:

And anytime I tried to get on here in the last few days, the servers weren't working?:confused3 I think they were working on an upgrade or something.

New schedule at work, normally I'd be off today, but now I am off Fri & Sun...I dont mind having split days off too much, as I like Sundays off.

130 to AKLV for no parks:yay:

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

Bob's surgery went well, we think. Thanks for all the good wishes!

We have a follow-up with the eye surgeon this afternoon to see if Dr. Elin's assessment is correct... ;)
