We currently own 160 points at AKV and we just paid off our loan in it's entirety yesterday. We are considering buying an additional 50 point contract at AKV. Does anyone know if it is possible to negotiate a lower per point price with the vacation guide? I heard that AKV is selling for $112 per point. I'm wondering if it is possible to get a lower price than that or if Disney has a set price and that's that. Thanks for any answers!

You might want to consider adding on through resale. We did this and got a much better deal than Disney was willing to offer. We watched for the same use year and we lucked out with price and getting some extra points.

I'm guessing resale is the timeshare store that people reference here?

Yes, that is who we used, although there are other places that deal with DVC resales as well. We had an excellent experience with TSS and would use them again for an add on if Disney couldn't come close in price.

Disney may still be your best bet on a small contract like that because resale closing costs (there are no closing costs through DVC on add-ons) would eat up much of the savings, unless you could get the seller to pay those too. It would be worth looking into but just keep that in mind when evaluating the resale price vs. DVC's price

Very true. We were lucky in that our resale had the seller paying closing & the current years MF, the contract was loaded with 2 years of points & huge cut on Disney's price. Resale can be done and can be profitable. You just have to be patient in waiting for the right deal to come along. I would have loved to give Disney some more business, but we saved a bundle by using TSS.

This is excellent advice. I'm a big fan of resale vs. direct, especially with the price disparities today, but on a very small contract the math changes because of the closing costs. Plus, with a 50 point resale, you're going to have to pay fairly close to the direct price in order to clear ROFR. DVC ROFR's smaller contracts at a much higher level than they would a 300-pointer.

You just have to do the math both ways and see if the cost savings of resale is worth the time and uncertainty. If all the planets are alighned perfectly, go resale. If not, go direct.

The Timeshare Store is one the the major DVC Resellers, yes. There are 3 or 4 major resellers that provide great service, including the Timeshare Store.

Price is $102 for a current member buying 50pts. Comparing that to $92/pt for a stripped that is currently listed, you come out ahead buying direct.

LOL - DVC's already got you - - they don't need to sweeten the deal anymore - LOL!! In all seriousness, though, I *think* that there is an incentive when adding on 50+ points?? But, I agree with others -- if you can find a small contract via resale, that's certainly a cheaper route. Good luck!
