Is it possible to get a vegetarian meal for a child on a Virgin flight?

There is no option for a vegetarian kid's meal when you book, so I emailed Virgin to request a veggie kid's meal. They replied to say they don't do them! Very helpful (not!)

I've emailed back to request a veggie adult's meal for her instead...does any one know if this is possible?

When we went in April/May the adult veggie option was a chick-pea curry which would be fine if you have an adventurous child but not ideal if you don't. You shouldn't have to do this, but I usually buy something to take on the plane in Boots airside just incase the plane food is inedible .

I'm not sure that any airlines actually offer a vegetarian child meal :headache:

We booked an adult vegetarian meal for my daughter, but it's always been some kind of curry which she really doesn't like. She usually ends up giving her veggie meal to my husband (who will eat anything :rotfl: ) and swapping for the vegetables/rice/pasta out of one or both of our meals while we eat the meat bits! We always have cereal bars and pringles, which whilst not ideal, will keep her happy if it comes to it!

Oh, they (airlines in general, not Virgin particularly) always do really strange things as well e.g. giving her a different pudding even though the puddings on the non-veggie meals are clearly vegetarian-friendly!

This year we flew with Air Canada (who were great incidentally, other than doing strange things with the vegetarian meals) - first of all we all had a chocolate chip cookie (nothing unsuitable for vegetarians in it) with our meal, veggie daughter got given a cake. :confused3

Then later in the flight we were given a snack - choice of either chicken wrap or "vegetarian option" (their words! it was a sweet potato wrap) ... veggie daughter got given an apple and a banana!! (she does like fruit, but not in preference to a nice hot wrap!). She was not too impressed about that one - fortunately they had vegetarian wraps left over and cabin crew let her have one as well as the fruit.

On the way home, we got given chocolate brownies with our meal, veggie daughter got given a very bland looking cereal bar - needless to say she was quick to swap that one with dad! :rotfl:

Sounds exactly like my family - because of this DD hates plane food but I still order a veggie meal just in case.

Thanks for the replies.
I find it really strange that adults get a choice but they expect all the kids to eat chicken nuggets! Surely a veggie pasta dish would be a nice easy (and cheap) alternative for them to provide.

I hope Virgin give us the option for a veggie adults meal then...she actually likes curry, so that wouldn't be an issue. I'll take some snacks along too, just in case!

I may just write them to suggest this needs changing!

I had to phone to get the special meal for DD but last year they forgot her meal so I packed food for her anyway. Just as well. The did serve her GF meal, but it was a gluten free, low fat/low sodium meal (i.e. multi purpose). So no dessert on either flight and icky diet food. I won't bother again. Pack your own food. ;)

Hi, I order the veggie meal every year and every single time they "forget" even tho I ring to confirm beforehand. Also they only offer veggie/lacto or vegetarian/vegan so we opt for the veggie/lacto, only to find it still non dairy so no nice desert what you get on the normal meals, once got a choc mousse tho that clearly said "not suitable for vegetarians"?? they really need to sort the meals out, I will def take something with me next year incase it goes to pot again!! :confused3 Debs

Well that's the sort of service I would expect (and am used to) from bog-standard package holiday companies, and not Virgin! We've all ordered veggie meals although dh eats meat, as that way we hope at least some of our meals arrive!
The amount we're paying for our flights, I expect Jamie Oliver to have cooked my meal personally!

Anyone want to join me in emailing Virgin to express our disappointment?

I'm in! I was going to anyhow. TBH, I just said to DD last night that I think this may be our last VA flight for a while. It's not just the prices. I used to enjoy the service and the flights, but this year we could have been on any old airline -except we paid a premium for our economy seats. Next year is indirect for us, no question about it. Our flight over was one of the worst I have had, check in was a nightmare even although we got there more than 5 hours early and to top it off, my 8 year old was randomly selected for the security check (the scans, pat down, etc :sad2:).

I will be sending an email too. Now where is meldud? She also had hassles with a GF meal a little while ago.
