My Husband and I are staying at the Pop Century for our 20 wedding anniversay. Is it possible to be upgraded to another resort??
Our funds ran short, so we need to stay here. any suggestions??:confused3

Are you asking if it is possible to be upgraded for free to another resort? During the free dining promotions I have seen folks upgraded to SSR but I do not think that that is the norm. Upgrades to a better room can happen but I believe that they are random, we hear a lot about the free upgrades but I have never gotten one.

If you go with the mindset that you are happy with your resort you will not set yourself up to be disappointed. Anything else is a bonus!

Happy Anniversary!

I was asking if you can upgrade your resort for free. I didn't know if that ever happens?
Can you pay the difference to be upgraded to another resort??
We originally had a reservation at Coronado Springs.
Thanks for your help :)

I don't understand, first you say you want to know if you can get an upgrade for free and then you ask if you can pay the difference?

I have paid for an upgrade at check in at CR from a garden view room to a tower room.

FREE resort upgrades are rare and random and seldomly can be had for asking. Some of our Cm posters here on the Dis said that they would most likely NOT give an upgrade to someone who asked for it.Disney generally upgrades when it HAS to.All the recent people who booked value resorts and got upgraded to OKW or SSR are case in point.Disney was trying to free up reosrt rooms at the values during the Sept free dining weeks.I have had over 21 trips to WDW and never received a free upgrade, most people are just like me.I know these boards make it seem like upgrades are everywhere, they aren't.Disboards represents a VERY small fraction of disney vacationers, most of who never get an upgrade.Pixie dust happens ,but not when you expect it to.If you are asking if you can pay for an upgrade at check in, you can ask , but chances are you will be quoted RACK RATE for the upgrade , no discount.

I have heard that you can ask to be upgraded.
I would gladly accept a free upgrade..lol...
but If they said no you cannot do that,
I want to know if you can pay to be upgraded.
sorry for the confusion, I think I'm confusing myself!:lmao:

Sure. If there are rooms at the resort you want, but they usually charge you the going rate and not a discount

If you want to upgrade and are willing to pay for it, then do it now. There is no reason to wait until you arrive. If funds are short, then as soon as you have the funds make the change prior to arrival. It will be easier.

If you want to upgrade to a different resort at checkin I would suggest that you search for deals prior to that and make your change before you arrive. Unless the resort is overbooked there really is no reason to send you to another resort for free. A room upgrade could happen but a resort upgrade would be very rare from what I have read.

Disney Resorts are individuals resorts. They are not linked to each via computer (well maybe through guest services but the resort CMs don't know what the others are doing) so getting upgraded to a different resort is very unlikely, unless you want to pay full price, no discounts or free dining (during a Year of a Million Dreams they did upgrade but these were surprises and I haven't heard it being done so far this year).

My brother walked into ASsports and asked about getting a room (it was during value season) they were going to charge him rack rate. I got him on the phone before he paid, told him about FL resident rates, he asked and he was given a phone to book it (at the resort they can't do that). He saved $40.Have you checked to see if a different resort is available during you stay?

I read a hotel review on Expedia.com and someone told that during check in to value resort in May, was offered free upgrade to villa at SSR, but it is extremely rare.
During free dining, they did send lots of emails with free upgrade but it was done to free value resorts and to get more people to book. It may happen again however for October + dining, but no guarantee. You can call and ask if there any upgrade is available, but I would not count on it.

At the Pop there are only 2 types of rooms: standard and preferred. The preferred rooms are closer to Everything Pop. Other than the location (and price), there is no difference between the standard and preferred rooms. The preferred rooms cost about $10 more.

You might get upgraded to a preferred room at check-in, but I wouldn't count on it. If I were you, I'd request a standard room, 90's building, king bed (not handicapped accessible). There are only a few king bed rooms with normal bathrooms (tub, not roll in shower) at the Pop, but they are great for a couple. The room feels much bigger with only 1 bed, rather than 2. Also, be sure to note on your reservation and tell the check-in CM about your anniversary.

Have a great trip!

PS. DH and I are staying at the Pop for Free Dining this year. I was hoping for an email upgrade to the SSR, but no such luck! Oh well. The Pop is wonderful!!

Free upgrades almost never happen.

Paid upgrades happen all the time.. :)

This was our experience in May.....we weren't really asking for an upgrade, but we had just decided we wanted to pay to move to a deluxe instead of the Mod we were at. HOWEVER, they did not want quote my rate at the Military Discount currently taking place.....So, we decided to stay. We would have paid 500.00ish for the resort change but not 1200.00

we have been upgraded 3 times, but it was always *within* the resort, and not to another resort. Each time, we had booked a standard view and were given a better view. I never asked for an upgrade except for the first time, when I was very naive and didn't realize that a water view cost more $$ than a standard room. Perhaps they had pity on me because I was so clueless. :confused3 The other times, it has been just a happy surprise!
