How about just do one night CL for the Sunrise Safari, and do SV w/ DDP the rest of the trip? You can ask to have the SV room the whole time, just have the services for the one night, maybe to begin or end the trip.

Do you have to be staying CL the night before or after the Sunrise Safari? We check in on a Friday, and check out on Saturday (and from what I've read, the SS is on Sundays and Thursdays)?

Another important question...IPO will be making our ADRs next month...if we do decide to change from CL to just a SV, will all of our ADRS be cancelled along with our reservation? I'm wondering if I should make my own ADRs just in case? :confused3

Yes, SS is on Sundays and Thursdays and you're better off to have that be on your check-out day. It's a little trickier to be checking in with the CL CMs at 6:30 or 7am the morning of the SS; they're busy getting the SS guests squared away!

If you decide to cancel the CL portion and stay SV, just let the IPO know that your plans have changed, but that you want to keep the ADRs. There won't be a problem. The only ones they would have to cancel are any that required you to be staying CL (such as SS). ;)

Thanks for the info...if they offer some good discounts for April at some point, I will do CL with DDP...I guess time will tell...

Good morning all. Another beautiful day at AKV.

First things first.

Brooke we leave on Sunday:sad1:

Tusker House is a great place to have breakfast. You get your picture taken with Donald before you go in and get seated. Then you see Mickey, Goofy and Daisy. No Minnie.

I wish I could have had a drink at that bar but it was a little early in the day.:lmao: Made up for it later.

Onto the show...

Today was kind of a lazy day. We didn't get out until noonish. We decided to go to Downtown Disney. We ate at T-Rex. The food was delish.

We did a lot of shopping again.:lmao: So much in fact that when I picked up purchases this morning, I had a sack. Felt like Santa. Still waiting for other purchases to come to the hotel. How are we going to get this stuff back:confused3? Your guess is as good as mine.

I went to visit my guide at BLT and bought 100 pts there. Gave us fastpasses :thumbsup2

We went to Chef Mickeys and met up with the Fab Five.

After dinner, Mom went back to the room and we finished the evening at MK. Saw Electric Light Parade and Wishes. It was wonderful. Came back to the room and put the kids to bed. Sis, GF and I went to SANAA Bar and had a few drinks. Not as large as Victoria Falls but it was nice. Took our drinks outside by the firepit. Nice end to the evening.

The Zebras were running wild during the night. Chasing the Giraffes from their spot. I wonder if it was Mardi the trouble making Zebra? Will inquire.

Thanks for the info on Tusker House. We're going to book it for April...never heard much about it so I'm excited that you posted the pics and the great comments! :thumbsup2

We ate at T-Rex last February and also thought it was fantastic! So much to see and the food was really good.

I loved to hear your story about the zebras running around...I can picture it now and I can't wait to see it for myself! I am really enjoying your live posts and can't thank you enough for including the pictures! Have a great day :)

And fellow AKL lovers, go to eyes on ears dot com and you'll see our beloved pool, birds chirping and kids frolicking live! I think tomorrow morning there will also be savannah view live from both Jambo House and Kidani!

Harlemgirl,

Loving your report & pictures! You have a beautiful family; very photogenic. Those pictures are amazing!! :goodvibes

Enjoy the rest of your time at AKV!! :cloud9:

Safe travels home on Sunday. pixiedust:

Great pics once again. Congrates on adding the BLT points ! We have a ressie for T Rex in November and can not wait. Your live TR is the highlight of my week, thanks for taking the time out to post it :thumbsup2

Love the pics Harlemgirl!!! :cloud9:

OT, but for some reason my dyslexia kicks in with your username... In my mind you are forever going to be Harem Girl. :upsidedow

I am loving the pictures. Thanks. It is only 4 weeks until our CL trip. :cool1: I can't wait. It is so much fun keeping updated on this thread. Makes it easier to make it til Oct.

Greetings!

I'm planning our next family vacation and have always wanted to stay Savannah View at the AKL, but looks like we won't have the funds and will have to stay pool view. Will we be disappointed? We like everything the resort has to offer, but were really looking forward to sitting on our balcony watching the animals. Are there any viewing spots where you can sit in a chair for a bit and relax while watching the animals? Do they close down the viewing areas at night? Is there a good request to put in for pool view so that you don't get a room with lots of foliage? Do any of the pool views overlook the Uzima Savannah a bit or the flamingo pond, and what would you request for that? Thanks in advance, we still want to stay here, but want to make it the best trip even though we won't be waking to the giraffes! :sad1:

:welcome: and please do not feel for one second that you won't LOVE the pool view room!! :cloud9: There are many places to view the animals. On floor 2 there are several places where you can go outside on a large balcony, sit in the rockers and just ENJOY!!! Go the end of Kudu Trail and go out on the stairs. You can see the barn and there are usually animals nearby.

The animals are usually in the barn for several hours somewhere between 6 and 9am. Go out on the Arusha Overlook and talk to the guides -- they will give you lots of information about the animals and their patterns on the savannas.

One advantage you'll have by being in a pool view room is you will be close to the lobby, pool, restaurants and buses. :thumbsup2

We stayed at Jambo House in December. Bought a lot of stuff at WDW. Went to the cashier at Zawadi Marketplace and they packed and shipped everything home for us. Good luck!

Thank you thank you thank you!:worship: You have put my mind at a little ease! We've been to the AKL for dinner to Boma a few times and have been out to Arusha rock, but it's hard for my DD to see over the fence and we never spent much time out there. Glad to know there are other viewing areas to sit and enjoy...that makes this decision a whole lot easier!

Make sure you visit Kidani too. There's a great overlook there also; lots of giraffe and zebra hang out in the area!! ;) Kidani also has areas to sit and rock and enjoy the animals (just off the lobby).

For a real treat, make a lunch reservation at Sanaa and request a window table. You should have an amazing view of the animals! :cloud9:
