Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

So does anyone think there's any way Harry attends Philip's funeral if he doesn't make it through his illness?

This was a scorched earth interview. There’s no retreat for H&M. I think all ties are cut. They wanted out and they get what they asked for.
But I don't think they really believe it. They wanted validation with a side of revenge. Long term...likely not what Harry envisioned. Just my thoughts.

I saw about 3 parts of the interview as I was in and out of the room bringing my mother tea (and, later, red wine lol).

I saw Meghan whine about having to Google the British national anthem because no one had the foresight to teach it to her..I mean okay if that is the level of complaint you are willing to grasp at when you have precious air time on "Oprah". Wow. Sorry for the hardship of learning a new national anthem without having some lower-flunky staff member somehow, I don't know, somehow anticipate this and beam it into your brain?

She also set off my B.S. detector with her comment on a paid security detail (I am paraphrasing) "I understand no one cares about me and my child but please, for the love of God save my husband" :charac2:

Thirdly, I saw Harry whine about money (I don't know how tone deaf you have to be, in a crazy violent pandemic world, to actually whine about your entitlements to security and money and titles....)

Anyway, my perception of Meghan did change after what I saw...I used to think she was a cold, hard manipulator. Now I truly think she has some sort of persecution complex and she truly believes everyone (her mother's family, her father's family, her husband's family, her husband's family's employees, a nation's media and a nation's citizens) are ALL out to get her.

My perception of Harry also changed. I used to think he had become a dirtbag...I now just think he is sad and lost.

I hope now that they have spewed their crap all over the British monarchy, they will feel satisfied and GO AWAY.

God I am glad I couldn’t watch it. Sounds like fingernails on a chalk board.

I watched Harry. It was like driving by a car accident...couldn't turn away. I wanted to see some credible reason for his behavior. He really believes he is doing the right thing, I truly believe this.

I don’t. I think it will be too soon. He can watch it on tv with the rest of us

I don’t think Harry had a clue how badly this could end for him.

Also...he inherited like 10 million or so from his mother and another good chunk of change from the queen mother. He’s not poor. What is he whining about having to spend his own money for?

As American...I apologize. It's why we are called ugly Americans.

:flower3::flower3::flower3:

LOL It's crazy, though, isn't it? The Royal Family (despite all their successes and failures) don't usually share too much about themselves, because they realise they're actually doing jobs to serve the country -- something I guess other countries mightn't understand and, maybe, a lot of early 20-somethings in the UK don't either (I know I didn't at that point).

In the public sense, it isn't about them as individuals anymore than it is for the rest of us. Maybe that was confusing for Meghan and it had to have been very difficult for Harry as a kid. They have roles within a business ( a business sustained by a certain amount of history and tradition) and I guess that as the lines between public and private are weirdly unique and blurry for them it has been messy behind the scenes.

They Royals should, undoubtedly, learn from this and draw clearer lines ...and they should keep evolving their roles in serving an evolving society, but if they throw everything out of the window, people won't realise the stuff that was supporting the country before it's too late.

P.S. Maybe, H&M should also wonder why people making money from them gave them this platform.

Mainly, I guess the UK and the US should both rise above it :D, but people who have the power to make money through these things wield a lot of influence over the rest of us.

His net worth is speculated to be between $25-$40 M.

I disagree about Americans' feelings. I think most Americans are happy for them that they got out of that situation. His family has let him down. But of course I am on record as thinking the idea of a royal family is dumb.

Not quite sure what you mean, here - what you say seems to reflect what I meant (and thought I said LOL).

Americans have been given a very one-sided version of a much bigger picture concerning another country and have judged based on it, like you describe. To be fair, Brits have too!!!!

Not all Americans judge so easily or are so easily swayed, of course. SorryTLSnell1981! ;) (Note to self: stop generalising! :rotfl: )

I can understand you might think a Royal Family isn't worth having. I didn't used to appreciate the finer details. Now, I don't think I'd want everything to be in the hands of just one figure/government.

It’s such a big mess. I can’t imagine any response from the palace that wouldn’t make this worse, except a short We are saddened by the accusations lodged and love our Harry very much sort of thing. Meghans dad tomorrow morning will make it worse. I see the palace maybe putting out a short sad statement that addresses little except their love for Harry and Archie (and maybe Meghan b/c they have to) and moving on.

It’s laughable that someone worth an estimate 20-40 million dollars was pushed into the arms of Netflix to pay for security.

Dude. Buy a ranch in Montana. Put up security cameras, hire a few guys to help out day to day and buy a gun. Even on 10 mil you’re pretty nicely set for life. You’ll be fine. You can even still buy your wife $5,000 dresses from time to time.

I agree with this.
I was thinking about how in a family like that, with so many opportunists around, ready to sell their story, the circle of trust is super, super important and very, very small. The royal family have to be able to trust one another that what happens in the room stays in the room. Harry knows this and apparently was ready to take himself and his family out of the circle of trust. I can't imagine him being welcomed back for anything but the most impersonal events.
He's kaput.

Who goes on national television to air their family business? It's poor taste.

Former Presidents have their libraries and foundations which focus variously on civic and historical issues with which they particularly wish to identify.

I have yet to grasp what it is that H&M, having supposedly quit their public role into which people thought M had willingly married, realistically wish or expect to achieve now by having so much to say in the media.
