Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

I am thinking there are lots of Disney princes and princesses that might be fair game lol
MMMM... that I think would be off topic.

LOl, interesting how sensitive folks are about bringing up Andrew... pages of pages in this thread of discussion about this royal... that royal... what dress Diana wore to show off to Charles.... how Wallis helped the cause by getting Edward out of the way...

But bring up Andrew and it is ridicule time and call for off topic.

I agree, it is like justifying bad behavior with other bad behavior. Never ends well.
Harry & Meghan's apologists say, "What about Andrew?"

Then Andrew's apologists say, "What about Bill Cosby?"

Then Bill Cosby's apologists say, "What about Charles Manson?"

Then Charles Manson's apologists say, "What about Hitler?"

How about everyone being held accountable for their own actions, and not evading responsibility by bringing up those who have done even greater wrong?

You know you've been slapped down when Bethany Frankel comes after you. Ouch! Now that's an interview I'd watch.

"Frankel shared a few words about Markle 'Cry me a river...the plight of being a game show host, fairly unknown actress, to suffering in a palace, w tiaras & 7 figure weddings for TWO WHOLE YEARS to being a household name w @Oprah on speed dial, fetching 7 m for interviews, hundreds of millions in media deals,' the former Real Housewives of New York star tweeted."

I have a feeling that Andrew may have some "retirement" trouble when Ghislaine sings....
Maybe a certain former US President too? Didn’t he move in the same social circle? How many allegations of sexual abuse, rape etc have been made against him? I have lost count.

Eh... guys... it was a serious question as I do not keep very up to date with US news. I was genuinely curious and not trying to stir the pot or being a 'what about' apologist.

Tomorrow it will all be over with the speculations and we can continue with the discussion what the consequences are of the interview.

The investigation commenced by the Royal households, isn’t about Meghan and whether or not she bullied staff. The focus of the investigation is whether proper procedures are/were in place and whether those procedures are/were followed, when staff/employees of the various Royal households, raise/raised complaints of bullying, harassment etc. It is a subtle but extremely important difference.

It is not about justifying, It is about accountiility.
what actual crime have H and M committed? People dont like their decision to leave the royal family... they do not like their self promotion.

Official investigation.... more classic palace smear campaign games. Totally prooves their points ahead of the Oprah onterview.

It isn't that it's off-topic, but that it keeps being presented as if defence of H&M. ...Which, of course, it isn't - in that sense it's pure deflection.

From time to time I hear that MM was installed into the RF to bring the monarchy down. I mean who marries into a family and immediately tears into them in a very public way with Oprah leading the charge? May be far fetched but an interesting thought. She has zero concern for any of Harry's family (or hers.)They bent over backwards to make her feel welcome and this is their reward? She is every family's nightmare.

M and H get married, don't 'fit in" and want to live their own life on their terms... OH HORROR.... THE DISGRACE

It's a looong thread now :D, so you probably haven't seen them, but there have been lots of posts clarifying that their decision to leave their royal roles is not the point of issue.

It gets irritating when defence of H&M (or anyone) uses that kind of incorrect summary, it distorts the whole picture. I guess the pushback you've got is also to do with that.

I still haven't seen much argument in support of H&M using anything other than deflection (Andrew) or insult of others (Kate) (other posters) or the glossing over of pretty much all the details.

Well apparently the Queen won't be watching, but will be briefed over breakfast tomorrow by her courtiers.

If true, it makes me think she has well and truly washed her hands of them

Just a few reasons H&M are being criticized.
1)They play perpetual victims.
2)Attempt to rise by stepping on others on their journey.
3)Incredible sense of entitlement.
4)Plus their hypocrisy.

That was a direct comparison of Meghan to Wallis, because they have a noticeable amount in common, particularly in relation to what is happening with Meghan & Harry right now. If you think Harry is like Andrew, and want to compare their similarities, then that's on topic.

What's off-topic is when we're discussing these two people, and someone says, "But what about this other notorious person who has nothing to do with the issues of these two people?" That's just an evasion and it doesn't further the discussion of the couple that this thread is focused on.
Sugar Mag was making a direct comparison of Meghan to Andrew, because they have a noticeable amount in common, both having been accused of inappropriate behavior towards those they hold power over, in cases that are currently still unfolding and unresolved. Showing the glaring difference in how the palace has responded to the two situations is relevant to the discussion because it shows either A) they regard the allegations against Meghan as worse than the allegations against Andrew, or B) they’re inflating the Meghan issue to take attention off of Andrew. All very ON-topic in a discussion about the royal family, especially when a core piece of the discussion has been about how the royal family has treated Meghan.

(Why can’t I tag people anymore? It no longer works to put @ followed by the username?)

Remember that by the time Harry and Meghan first moved to Canada last year, Harry had reportedly spent months trying to get the Queen/palace to address this issue of H&M wanting to “step back” and they kept getting brushed off. So, they finally took matters into their own hands, left, and released their own statement. Then the Queen/palace wanted to turn it into some year long “trial period,” presumably because someone had the idea they were going to regret their decision and want to come running back to royal life. Now a year has passed, H&M are still choosing the life of private citizens in sunny California, and the palace is now taking an “all in or all out” attitude, severing whatever remaining ties they can. Drama, drama, drama.

Imagine if the first and only thing we ever heard about it was a statement from the Queen saying, “Our dear Harry, only sixth in line to the throne and therefore unnecessary to the continuation of the monarchy anyway, and his beloved wife Meghan have decided to move abroad to pursue personal interests. They will remain involved in the charities they care so deeply about and will return to the UK for special occasions and to perform the occasional royal duty. (Don’t worry, we’ll sort all the financials so the British taxpayer isn’t paying for any of their personal expenses.) We wish them nothing but success and happiness in their new ventures and are eagerly looking forward to having them visit soon.” Bonus points if the Queen worked YOLO! into the statement.

Now, wouldn’t that have been a whole lot simpler and less gossip-worthy than what’s been going on for the past year? I can’t help but think the palace made this a bigger issue than necessary because of their inability to let go and let two grown adults make decisions about their own lives.
