Is it just me or does Rod Stewart

look more and more like Barry Manilow

He's on Wayne Brady right now singing "Just the way you look tonight"

His voice is not cut out for that kind of music--just sounds like he is struggling to reach the notes.

Wonder why.

I like Rod Stewart well enough, but I don't understand why he does remakes of songs. The worst one, imo, was Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately". To take a song like that, which is so unique in that very few people could duplicate Van's voice, and ruin it, well, its almost sacreligious.

And I sure don't think he is anything to look at. My college roomate was nuts about him, thought he was the hottest thing going. He reminds me of a ferret or a rat.

just doesn't make it for those torch songs. If he retired and never put out another CD and never did another appearance anywhere, my feelings wouldn't be hurt. Some people don't get better with age.

ok, this is a bit off the subject but when you mentioned Rod Stewart, I had to tell you this story of "the generation gap". I had burned my own custom CD of songs I loved and held deeply from high school. But I jsut didn't have time to make a cover jacket for it, so i jotted down the list and the artists and let DD 14 do the creative work for it. Snickering about my choices kept her ammused for along time till she busted out laughing 1/2 way through. "Mom, you guys were nuts back then. I mean, the names of these people!" Ha ha. When she couldn't stop laughing I went to see what was so funny. In my haste I abreviated Rod Stewart to R. Stewart, figuring she would know. But what the end of my list looked like was Meatloaf, Bread and Roast!
Now when ever she see him she says "look, roast!"

My DH made a 'MIX TAPE" AKA "Make out music" when we dated in College in the '70's with all those folks!!!! WOW!!

I don't think he's very good on those remakes, either. My sister and I were watching a Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, and Rod came on. My sister said she bought his new CD for my mom. As we were listening to him butcher "The Way You Look Tonight," she looked over at me and said, "Well, I guess I'm taking that CD back!" We cracked up. I liked his old stuff (Maggie May, Hot Legs), but I hate that all he does is remakes, now. And Snoopy, I totally agree about "Have I told You Lately." I loved (and still love) Van Morrison's original version. It has always irritated me that Rod Stewart's lackluster version got all the airplay.

Maybe Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow are one and the same....have you ever seen them together??
