Hi Gang

Ok, ok... I'm spoiled. Is it hard to go to a moderate resort after staying at (or being used to) a deluxe resort?

Just curious of your thoughts.

A.

IMHO, no. It would be hard to not go to Disney, but not hard to try different resorts. Each "category" has something worthwhile to offer, and any time I'm at Disney, I'm happy. Then again, I'm a glass half full kinda girl...

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in July 04 and just got back from a 5 night stay at POFQ. I loved them both! The pool at WL is nicer and our room had a balcony but other than that I found POFQ just as nice.

We've been to WDW 3 times and have stayed at WL or VWL and just love it. I'd like to try a moderate so that we could try a less expensive vacation. The only thing I have a hard time with is the lack of interior hallways. I can't picture how it wouldn't seem like a motel room (albeit with great theming!). We could do without the sit-down restaurant and other Deluxe amenities, but the hallway thing gets us each time.
Looking forward to hearing more Deluxe to Moderate stories!
Thanks!

I've stayed at the POR and the POFQ after staying at some of the deluxes and I loved the themeing at both of the PO resorts. The POR has a sit down restaurant, while the POFQ does not, but both of the resorts are beautiful and I really enjoyed staying at them both.

We've gone from Deluxe to Moderate and quite frankly we're more comfortable at the moderates. My husband has discovered that he really prefers exterior entrances. I really like walking the grounds at the moderates and we love having the choice of eating at a food court.

Each time I book a trip we can choose either deluxe or moderate and we seem to choose moderates instead.

We've stayed at CR, WL and AKL and we still enjoyed the CSR twice and are looking forward to POR in May. We stay at deluxes when we will have more time at the resort, like in December and can enjoy everything the resort has to offer. When we go in the summer, the parks are open late and we spend little time at the resort so we stay at a moderate.I can't justify spending twice as much $$ when you just shower, change and sleep. Just my opinion!!!

I think it depends if you did the moderates before you did the deluxe too. We worked our way up to deluxe. princess: But we still remembered what we liked or loved about this moderate or that one. :smooth: Now we have never stayed value (I know I'm a snob) (but if we started there, probably would go back?) (started with wdw before they had value) so I just can't force myself to do that, BUT we do go back and forth between moderates and deluxe. Depends where we want to stay, or do for each trip. We wanted to spend some time at dtd & PL so we are staying at pors, also got a really good ap rate, so we are splitting with Poly. :earseek: It really comes down to a matter of taste, and what you want from a resort. We are ap holders & go down for 3 weeks at a time, so we spend a lot of time at the resort, using all the amnieties, so I like to have certain things, boats, pools (I like), resturants, room service, etc.... Pick what you want. Doesn't really matter if its a mod or a deluxe.

We tried to go moderate (POR) after staying only at deluxes. Within an hour we were back and switching our rooms back to GF. For us it was a number of things, transportation, lack of balcony, smaller room, outside hallways, but mostly we missed being able to see MK from our hotel. I think if we had gone to POR first we would have loved it.

We were going to go from a Deluxe to value, but that was too hard. So now we're staying in a moderate (POFQ). It has more features (bike rental, carriage ride). I'm looking forward to staying at POFQ!

You can definitely go from a deluxe to a moderate. Someone else said it is easier to do if you have already stayed at a moderate--I think that's true. We started at moderates and then went to deluxes. I've gone back to moderates a few times and still loved it. I want to try out either POR or FQ in a few years.

We stay at all levels depending on our budget and the purpose of the trip. We went from the BC in May to POFQ in Sept. POFQ was just too adorable!!! It would be perfect for families with small children or couples. CSR was also just breathtaking (especially at night). The rooms at POFQ (just renovated) are the prettiest I've stayed in. The details were incredible. The only mod I didn't fall in love with was CBR, but I'd stay there again.

I never stayed at a deluxe, but I ate dinner at several of them.

I previously stayed at the moderates. However, last August I tried a value and was a little nervous about it.

My family actually liked the value resort (Pop Century) better then the other moderates we stayed at.

I ate dinner at Animal Kingdom and my 10 year old daughter said she liked Pop Century better. My wife also said the same thing when we ate dinner at the Dolphin.

In my opinion, deluxe does not always mean better. I was very surprised I liked the value resort better then the moderate. I liked the newness and I really liked the pool and food court at Pop Century.

We've stayed at Poly and CBR and honestly we prefer the CBR. Someone upthread was concerned about lack of interior hallways. We found the CBR to very quiet, in part I think due to the lack of interior hallways, which only seem to echo and amplify every sound and conversation, and I have heard complaints about noise at the Poly, due in part I think to having people in the interior corridors. With the exterior walkways, you hardly ever hear anyone, unless they happen to be having a conversation just as they go by your room. At the CBR, the exterior walkways look more like extended porches because of the design - you don't get a motel-like feeling at all.

We've stayed at all three levels. The only ones I will not got back to are the values. We go back and forth between moderates and deluxe depending on who is going with us. If just DH and I we will stay at a moderate with a king size bed, if we can't get a good rate at a deluxe. When my DS joins us we need a deluxe just for bed size. DH and I cannot sleep comfortably in a double bed that the moderates have, we need at least a queen size.

It hasn't been for us. We skip around all of the time depending on budget. We have even stayed in a value after a deluxe, with no problems (well, except for hearing the toilet flush in other rooms, )but that is what earplugs are for, right?;)) Our favorite moderate is PO-FQ! If you want a moderate with some of the deluxe amenities, go for CSR... but remember, it is a big convention resort that is very often used for big conferences, as it is less expensive for companies to put up their employees, but still give them the Disney atmosphere. You just have to go in with an open mind, and think of it as a new adventure, trying not to say, "well in GF we got..."

Exactly! DH and I both felt that CBR was one of the most romantic, secluded resorts we had ever stayed at. It reminded us of the resort in Mexico where we spent our honeymoon. I love the deluxes but I have also really enjoyed my stays at moderates. I really liked the quiet pools at CBR. Talk about private! There were several times on our July 2003 trip that we were the only people in the quiet pool. I think as long as you keep in mind the differences between a deluxe and a moderate you won't be disappointed. I liked the spread out feeling of POR and CBR. My sister and I spent a week before Christmas at the Dolphin and GF and I realized I really am a parks kind of girl - even though the GF was fabulous I just couldn't stand to be in the room or even at the resort if there was any park open! So moderates might make more sense for me in the future - until I have kids - then it's monorail/pool all the way! :earboy2:

I'm also very interested in hearing everyone's opinion on this, great thread!! I've only stayed at deluxe resorts, but would like to try something different, but am also a bit leary about it (ok, a lot!) We are so use to the wonderful location of CR since we spend so much time at MK (as well as in our room especially last year with our 6 month old) that I can't imagine it being a bus or car ride away... but I'm working on that. :-)

I think it would be fun to try different resorts though and hope to do so soon!

FOR SURE (for us anyway). We ARE SO SPOILED!! Moderates for us just don't do "anything" after staying in deluxes all the time. I'd rather stay in DTD as at least you can walk to DTD.

You have to BUS everywhere and IMHO they're all "motel" format type rooms. I know I'm a deluxer snob but after our one and only moderate stay we were disappointed.

But, I know there are those that certainly don't feel this way, so it's all a matter of preference. I like inside corridors, closets, a larger bathroom area and more than the bus option to go to the parks and the convenience of restaurants INSIDE the bldg so if it's pouring I don't have to dodge the rain to get something to eat. :p

My recommendation: if you have only stayed at deluxes and are "leary" about staying at a moderate, stick with a deluxe:p
