When we go to WDW we normally do a lot of relaxing. We only go to the parks for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening and we spend the rest of the time in the day relaxing by the pool or shopping or some other relaxing activity. Sometimes we will even just sit in our room and relax! I was wondering if anyone thinks it is crazy to do this at Disneyland as well? I told someone else that we were going to stay 9 days at Disneyland and thought I was nuts because "you can do DL in 2 days". First off even though we are staying at DL for the whole time we will probably spend a day at Universal and I am not sure but maybe someplace else on another day. Also, I know DL is much smaller than WDW but, my kids like to ride rides multiple times. They can probably ride buzz every single day of every single trip we go to WDW. So what do you guys think? Is 9 days too much for a realaxing vacation at DL?

I don't think 9 days is too outrageous. There are plenty of other things to do in California - Beach, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Legoland, Knott's Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, Hollywood, Universal Studios.......... Sitting at the pool in the sun sounds fine to me for 9 days!

We are from the East Coast and we are planning a 10 day trip in July because DH wants to go to NFFC and stay for the 50th..
We will rent a car for part of our stay..

I don't think that 9 days is too much at all!

When they say that you can "do" DL in 2 days, it's true. If you go commando-style you can definitely do the parks in 2 days.

I much prefer a nice, relaxed approach.

9 days is fine particularly if you are staying at one of the Disney Hotels and are heading toUniversal and other sights. To get in everything at a nice pace and do some relaxing you will need the 9 days. I can easily do 3 at Disneyland and two at DCA if I am taking time to swim and nap and such.

I don't think 9 days is too much at all. We can easily spend 3 days in DL and a day or two at DCA. We also like Knotts and Universal. We went last December for 5 days, which the rest of the family thought would be too much and we ended up not even doing everything we planned!!

We usually spend the morning in the park, then back to the hotel for a nap and swim than back to the park. Especially when the park is open late.

So 9 days will be fine, I would plan on 5 or 6 days for DL & DCA and a few days at some of the other area attractions.

If we spend less than 6- 7 days, we feel like we are rushing!! We too, come back and relax around the pool, wander DTD, etc. 9 days is not too much - especially if you go to Universal. As Amberle3 said, you can "do" Disneyland in 2 days if you go non stop and barely touch DCA but WHY?? 9 days sounds like heaven to me!

We always spend at least 10 days, there is so much to do in the area that will keep you busy. I also believe that part of the charm of DL is the detail in every nook and cranny... that takes time just to look up and around and let all your senses take it in.

When we spend less time then that we feel gipped.

You will have a great time.

Here was our schedule for our DL trip:

Saturday: arrive; check in Disneyland Hotel; swim; character dinner

Sunday: church at Crystal Cathedral; beach; ESPN Zone

Monday: DL

Tuesday: DCA

Wednesday: Universal

Thursday: DL

Friday: parkhop DL and DCA; character dinner; DTD shopping

Saturday: character breakfast; depart

With that said, I wished we would have skipped Universal to have even more park time. We were there at a fairly uncrowded time (second week in March), so we got to ride everything we wanted to ride, but more days would have made it even more relaxed.

The thing about DL is that if you are staying on site, there is not only no reason to get in a car, there is no reason to get on a bus or use any other form of transportation (other than the monorail for fun.) It is very pleasant to walk through DTD in the morning to get to the parks.

Have a great time!!!

I hope you guys are planning to rent a car so you can see the many things So Cal has to offer.
I personally think that 10 days is way to long to spend at DL if you are not planning on doing other theme parks or attractions.
I have been to DL at least 10 times and love it but it is NOT the resort that WDW is. I just want you to be prepared. I love it, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't have the same feeling.
Disneyland is in the middle of a smog ridden city, not tropical Florida. and Disneyland has a LOT of rides down. Just plan accordingly. I don't know when you are going, but weather may keep you out of the pool.
I am not trying to bring you down, I am the ultimate Disney freak.

There are so many fun things to do in LA.

Universal is really fun and Knotts Berry Farm fried chicken dinner are 2 great things. You don't have to go into KBF to eat the chicken dinner, its world famous.

Try to get to Venice Beach or Beverly Hills...its fun to walk around and see the sights.

Have fun !!

My family and I are planning a road trip from Western NY To DisneyLand in either July or August of 2005. 9 - 10 days is what we plan to spend there.
:grouphug: :flower1:

I think 9 days sounds wonderful!! We normally go for 3-5 days and I would LOVE to spend that much time there. ESPECIALLY, if you're staying onsite! My kids would spend every day at NEverland pool if they could! LOL!

Defintely rent a car if you planning on visiting beaches, Universals, Knotts or doing someshopping and stuff. And like the others said Definitely have a chicken dinner at Knott's!! DELISH!

I wish we were there for 9 days... ha
I will be all over California and in DL for only 3 days.

I cant wait though I have never really been through California its going to be fun.

We are thinking about a trip to California in April ---is it easier to do a few days in the LA area and do the parks and then go down to San Diego and stay there in order to do the zoo, Legoland, etc? I'm just trying to figure out the logistics. Thanks for your help. We've done WDW several times but have never been to California.

Helen 1203:

Due to the distances involved (about 80-100 min drive from Anaheim to Seaworld, closer to 2 hours from downtown LA), if you do plan do do many things in SD (ie, SeaWorld, SD Zoo, Legoland, Gaslamp District, etc.) I would recommend to stay down in San Diego for a few days. There are many things to see down there and logistically it would be easier.

Nine days isn't crazy at all. Our last trip was six days at PPH, and we wish it could have been longer. We did the parks for a few hours in the morning, then a few hours in the evening, with plenty of down time in between, and also devoted one day to USH. Next time we hope to stay a day or two longer.

Well, in '83 when WDW was just MK and Epcot, we spent 7 days doing two parks. Granted Epcot is bigger than DCA, but still!

We rode the rides multiple times, saw all the shows, took our time getting around. We did go to the beach one day.

So, 9 days at DL is fine, since you will be doing other things besides Disney.
