Is it cheating?

We are a party of 2, but can only find reservations for 4 at several of our desired restaurants/times. Though it is my understanding I won't be charged if I make the reservation for 4 and only 2 show up, but this makes me feel icky [lying intentionally]. Has anyone else done this? Is it frowned upon? Should I just do it and be happy I got the times/locations I want?

I would call Disney dining directly and see if they can accomodate you. Worth a try to avoid that "icky" feeling.

Many times I have had an ADR for 2 and I was placed at a 4 top. So I wouldnt worry, not like you are taking from someone. You can always check in early and tell them only 2 to make sure they dont hold a 4 top too.

When I made reservations at the boathouse for September online it was strange that I couldn't find a table for two but when I searched for a table for 3 there were slots available.

If they have room for 4, they have room for 2. Just reserve it and then call or go online to modify your party to 2 after you've got your confirmation. That way, you're "freeing" up those 2 spots you don't need and you can avoid any icky feeling.

I've had that happen and I usually do what @Serial has suggested. I book it for the larger # to avoid losing the open slot and then call right away to reduce the party size to free up those two spots.

I have always made our ADRs for 3 (there's 3 of us), but in years past, sometimes my daughter would want to go to kid's club instead. In that case, we showed up with 2 instead of 3. It didn't set off my "morality meter", so to speak.

Do what you need to. If it makes you feel icky, do what PP have suggested and try calling to see if they can drop it down to 2. If that works, win-win!

I would just do it. We did this for a few of our adrs last year, we were 3 ppl but only tables for 4 would show up and we figured we would be seated at a 4 top at most places anyway so it was no problem. If thats all you can find, I'd just make the reservations.

Disneys system is wonky, to say the least. Parties of 2 often have to book for 3 or 4

Do it without hesitation, adjust if you can

I think it's fine...we've had CMs at guest services make this suggestion to us in order to help us get a table.

I would do it and wouldn't feel icky about it. We've had our party size change at times for various reasons and the CM's have always accommodated us without hesitation. You just might have to wait a little longer.

Suppose im the minor in this but I dont reserve tables for more than the number of seats we need as I've read posts that say removing people is not easy or can't be done at all.

It's actually an idea that I've never thought of before, and I was just wondering if it holds empty spots for other people who are looking for reservations online? I'm not exactly sure how that works, but it seems like it would keep people from making the reservations they would prefer and that I was just wondering if it holds empty spots for other people who are looking for reservations online? I'm not exactly sure how that works, but it seems like it would keep people from making the reservations they would to make that fit their schedules, but then those people end up having to pick different dates or times when there were into seats available. Maybe someone can enlighten me and let me know if I am wrong? Just not sure how it works! :-)
*Please ignore the way this was written earlier! Haha!! I was talking it into my dictation feature and didn't proofread! LOL!! And my kids kept distracting me, so needless to say, I didn't make much sense. I talked to my husband to get his opinion on this, and since he used to wait tables in college, he told me that it made total sense to try for 4 if 2 are having a hard time getting a table. And he's the morality police....haha! Go for it!!

The party of 2 is often sat at a table for 4. Only one party is getting that table

If you book everything for 8 and only 2 are planned completely different
