is it better to have all the points at one resort?

Mickbee, actually they're not that restrictive when a member is using points from two contracts at 7 months to fill a ressie.

That's why Dean's comment is correct about using banked points. MS doesn't consider this a transfer in the classic sense.

Don't be surprised if they initially tell you it can't be done. Ask for a supervisor and they will make it work.

The intent of the "once a year" rule, IMHO, was to prevent massive trading of points which just ties up MS. It was not intended to penalize a member who has multiple contracts.

Grrrr.... The MS person I spoke with was insistent that there was no flexibility at all. In one membership we had 450 current year points, 142 banked points and in our other contract 100 banked and 100 current. The MS person REFUSED to allow us to transfer the 100 banked into our larger contract to burn them up first. We actually had to borrow 11 points to complete our reservation of a combined DCL/WDW vacation.

Lesson learned... thanks for the tip.

With all that being said, this is certainly a pitfall of multi-contracts. Had I been fresher on the contents of the contract, I would have been a bit more up to the debate. When the MS person said there were recent changes including this AND the swapping of reservations from one contract to another.

If I find out that one is not true, I am going to bust.

Have a nice day :D

The tranfer of points (to include banked and borrowed) between multiple contracts of a SINGLE owner is a gray area. DVC MS has "significant latitude" when dealing in this matter. That's not to say they will do it casually or that you won't have to get with a supervisor, but it shouldn't prevent you from doing what you need to do. It also should NEVER cause you to lose points or to borrow when the only rule in question is the one of transfer. It gets more complicated when you're talking different use years and/or different home resorts.

Here are some examples. Some, maybe most, of the non DVC exchange options require all points to come from a single contract. Why, just because it's set up that way. It's not intended to be a problem, it's simply a computer or system issue. Say you need 400 points for a cruise and you have 200 points in each contract AND the only problem is that they are in different contracts, they will make it work even if that means transfering banked/borrowed points. Another example is is you need a few points to finsih out that last night of the DVC stay. Say you have almost enough points for that 7 day stay in a 2 BR at BW and you have 2 BW contracts. Say that last night costs 30 points but you only have 20 left after using the banked and current points in contract A. They will let you transfer the remaining points from contract B, assuming it's either also a BW contract or you're within the 7 month window.
