Is I-95 a nice road?

To get back to your original question, If you take I-84 from Danbury Ct, to Scranton Pa it will add a little over 2 hours to your trip. Then take I-81 and if you really want to avoid traffic, Take 81 to 77 to 26 to 95 and then 295 around Jacksonville. the only bad traffic will be Charlotte Nc. Try to avoid that and Jacksonville at rush hour.

I'm in Central NJ and leaving NJ at 5AM and getting to Savannah at a reasonable hour is practically impossible. Even though after you pass DC, 95 is pretty much a cake walk (coming from a born and bred NJ driver) it still gets congested for no apparent reason, because 95 reduces to 2 lanes after Richmond (I think). We've made it to Brunswick, GA by 6PM and other years have barely made it to Savannah, GA by 10PM. This is all leaving at the same time 3:30AM to avoid all DC traffic. I think your best bet is leaving early on Sat morning and taking the Tappan Zee around NYC, then Parkway to the Turnpike. Drive as far as you think you can that day. We now leave here around 8AM and stop overnight in Florence, SC. We're not exahausted from getting up so early and still miss a lot of DC traffic. Then leave SC around 6AM, to get to Orlando around 6PM.

My DH makes the drive monthly. He leaves Central NJ (Branchburg to be exact) on a Saturday or Sunday between 4-5 am, and he's almost always home in Florida (barring bad weather or a major road closing wreck) by midnight at the latest--usually between 9:00 and 10:00 pm. Once he showed up at 8:00pm--swung into the driveway, picked me up, and we went and got ice cream! He drives no more than 5 mph over the speed limit.

The longest part of the trip is NJ to the Richmond by-pass. After that everything just moves along.

Not to mention that this will put you through DC in the heart of rush hour! I lived that for 25 years.... not pretty!

You're not kidding. Stop and go for 3 hours to get around the beltway...ugh.

No, in general, I-95 is not a nice road between CT and northern VA. Some sections are less not nice than others, as has been mentioned. Good luck to you OP.

The only part of 95 that i don't like is Jax there is something about the road other than that I have no problems. I get on 95 in Philly so above that I have no idea.
