Is Funky Winkerbean dead?

I only occasionally read this comic strip. I like my comics to be funny, they are the only ones I usually read. Maybe that's why I don't always read Funky Winkerbean, sometimes it's too serious. There's enough of that in real life.

So, do you think he died in the car accident?

Oooh, I've been reading Funky every day since the whole Lisa Moore cancer plotline. And the Wally plot and the time jump.

He's the title character! I know Les is more of the central character, but can you have Funky Winkerbean without Funky Winkerbean? I'm betting he is in a coma or something and perhaps having some kind of out of body experience. If you notice, the town looks like it is from the past, so I dunno. I read a theory (I'm reading theories about comics? Yikes!) that it might be a plotline like "It's a Wonderful Life." I wish they would just speed it up already to let us know! It IS dragging out a little.

I don't read this comic either, I only read the funny ones, too. But my Dh reads it. He told me yesterday he thought Funky died. If not dead, maybe in a coma. Wonder if they're ending the strip?

The cartoonist ended the John Darling strip by abruptly having the title character murdered... so you never know!

Since I don't read it religiously, doesn't the cartoonist sometimes drop a plotline in the middle of a story & go onto something else? I remember a while ago, something about one of the characters (I can't tell one from another) who came back from the war (Vietnam? even though that was years ago) and he was handling a gun, looked like he was depressed & thinking of killing himself. Then, he seemed to have dropped that and went on to another storyline.

Geez, if I wanted to read about suicides and car accidents, I turn a few pages to the news section.

It was Afghanistan, and that was Wally Winkerbean. He was captured right when it started in 2001 and was reported missing presumed dead. His wife remarried and his kids all but forgot him. He was recovered in a prisoner exchange. BTW, he didn't kill himself, though he's still not having an easy time of it.

As for Funky, I think he's in a coma. Today's strip has him finding a psychodelic VW Beetle parked near the restaurant. I think that he has gone back in time in his mind.

Holy cow what kind of comics are you guys reading? Those sound horribly sad! :(

I think I'll stick my Charlie Brown and Garfield....LOL
