Is Frontier really that awful?

They have some really good fares, they had a "buck" sale not too long ago and round trip from Chicago to MCO ended up being $30. Almost did it just because but didn't.

It was so cheap we just figured why not. If we were going with the entire family and all of our usual baggage for an entire vacation it wouldn't end up as cheap because of the extra fees and I'd definitely want to pick our seats. But for a super short trip with all adults and no luggage $70 round trip, when everyone else is $225+, is pretty awesome. Hoping for the best. We fly out Tuesday.

Well, I'm back from our short trip to Disney and wanted to pop in here and say that our flight with Frontier went very well. Especially for what we paid it was really a fabulous deal. Flight down was completely uneventful, left on time and landed early. Flight home had a slight delay of 30 minutes, but we've had way worse with other airlines so no complaints there. The staff was very friendly as well.

I will definitely consider flying with them again and would recommend others try them as well from this experience. Direct flights from NJ to Orlando are usually at a minimum $200 round trip and we paid less than half that price.

I'm so relieved that things went well after reading so many negative reviews. It seems that their flights here out of Trenton are pretty popular and most locals seemed to have positive reviews. Makes me think perhaps where you are flying to or from may make a difference.

Anyhow, thanks for sharing your input.

Glad to hear things went well. We have flown with Spirit and Frontier several times and have never had one issue. We will use them as long as they continue to offer flights at the prices they do.

We fly Frontier all of the time (about 10 round trip flights a year) and never have an issue with them. I liked them more when I didn't have to pay for seats and carry ons, but the fares have dropped, so it's sort of a wash.

We flew Frontier from Trenton to Saint Augustine and it was no problem. In fact, I now want to fly out of a small airport all the time. People complain about being nickle and dimed, but the tickets are so cheap. If you want all that other stuff go with a different airline and pay much more for it.

They are the only airline I've flown I will never fly again. We flew them to CA a few years ago. Coming back we got stuck in Denver on a Sat after a delayed flight out of LAX caused us to miss our connection. We were told we wold have to be standby as they had nothing available until the following TUESDAY! Sat 12 hrs in the airport with 3 small children only to take a shuttle to a hotel for 6 hrs sleep and be back again at 530am. It was awful. We did eventually get out standby on Sunday but everyone we dealt with was rude! (The first standby flight had room for half our family so I simply turned around to ask DH if we should do it and the gate agent screamed at me to get on or she would call the next on the list!) It was seriously so bad I will pay more to fly anyone else.

This happens on the major airlines too. United and American have both done this to me within the last 4 years.

Maybe so but no other airline worker has screamed at me before like was done at fronteir. I was much more upset and put off by that than anything else.

No one likes being screamed at, it stinks. I wasn't trying to discount your story, just saying that it's not solely a Frontier problem. At least with Frontier it costs less to get screamed at :P

My son just moved to Colorado to attend college this fall. He is just outside Denver so flies Denver-Austin. This summer we flew Frontier for the 1st time and he has flown them once coming back for a long weekend. We had no problems. Everyone was friendly, flights were on time. Personally, I bring my own drinks/snacks, so not having those is not a big deal. I'd rather get a cheap flight! Our entire family is flying Austin-Denver next week for parent's weekend. Got 4 tickets for $340. And I just purchased son's ticket home for Christmas break in December for $29 and his ticket back to school in January for $29. All in all, we are LOVING Frontier in this house right now. They are coming to Houston in December and I am looking for cheap airfare to MCO for June. If I can get it, we'll be happy to drive the 3 hours to Houston. We used to fly exclusively Southwest, but Frontier has them beat in the price department right now for us.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I looked hard at Frontier out of CVG to MCO for our upcoming trip in December. CVG is a little over an hour from our house and the fares are pretty good. There's only one direct flight a day so I was afraid the weather in December might cause problems so I ended up booking SWA out of SDF so if the weather is iffy I can change our flight. Paid more for SWA but peace of mind that I can make changes without penalty is worth the extra cost for me.

But I will definitely consider Frontier if we are flying other than winter.

They seem to nickel and dime you to death. Often just as expensive as JetBlue and SW.

I chose to have Frontier assign our seats so that I don't have to pay the charge. What are our chances of being seated together?

We considered doing this but reports are all over the place as to what happens in the end. Traveling with kids I probably wouldn't take the chance. But if you don't mind potentially not sitting next to your travel party it may be worth the savings. Seemed split about 50/50 when I was looking into it. I'm sure it depends on if it's a sold out flight or not too.
