Is free internet available?**update:It's coming 5/4/08**see post #28**

Is there free internet in the WDW hotels? If not, why on earth would our dues pick it up? When I said "they" I meant Disney, not the hotel.

No, it's not free in the hotels. So if we get it free someone is paying that vendor. Right now it's the users, but soon it will be all of us.
I would expect that "technololgy" might not be as big an issue with "free internet" as the contract side of it!

Disney outsources this.

No, there is no free internet in the WDW hotels. And even if there were, the cost to provide it to DVC resorts would still be born by the DVC owners.

Technically internet is never 'free' just 'included with the price of the room'. Disney is certainly behind all the major hotel chains in discovering the internet included is really becoming a given today, just as most hotel rooms will have a coffee maker etc....

That may be some of the hang-up with giving it at DVC properties. i.e. should all members pay for the service with their dues or just the ones that actually use it. I think that now it is popular enough the most members are using it, but that is just my opinion.

Disney is actually on par with most "deluxe" hotels. Most of the nicer hotels are charging. Marriott for examples charges $10 a night at thier full service hotels. Now it's free at their lower priced chains, but...

Disney is good at "deluxe" pricing:rotfl2: So I am not surprised they charge and if I HAVE to pay I like thier model better then most deluxe. Usually it just expires at check out as opposed to the 24 hours at Disney.

VERY true!

However, on the other hand, comparable high end timeshares such as the Marriotts DO provide free internet access. Soooo, DVC needs to walk a fine line or what they are competing with. And get away with. ;)

Well, the only time I stayed at Marriott timeshare the internet didn't work and the USELESS front desk staff told me "it will be Monday before we have anyone to work on it" :rotfl2:

(I have to say that I wrote Marriott a letter saying that they should be ashamed of the overall lack of service at this resort and asking WHY they thought I should buy there. They never responsed LOL! And I am a platimum Marriott guest :confused3 )

Can anyone tell me what the daily cost of internet service is now?

Can't even begin to say how relieved I am!! I'm bringing a friend with me, in June, to SSR, and she is going to be spending some time doing schoolwork online. I would have been humiliated if she had seen a daily charge for it...
this is MUCH better!!!:thumbsup2

So the old if you rent points you 'are' the owner during that time doesnt apply to this evidently...
