Is disney playing fair?

As others have pointed out, there are many different room rates available at WDW. Rack rate (full price), US discount rates (typically room-only and free dining), international discounts (yes, residents from other countries, like the UK, are offered different discounts and even different lengths of tickets!) and group rates (which is most likely what the big groups are paying and, yes, it's most likely less than what you paid). Is Disney playing "fair"? I'm not really sure what that means in the hotel industry. They are trying to fill rooms and give incentives to those that can book blocks of rooms (like groups) by lowering room costs. It's called doing business. This isn't unique to hotels either. Ever buy business cards? Or custom-made logo items? Or even WDW park tickets with more days on them? The more you buy, the less you pay per piece or per day.

As for wealth in South America, there is LOTS of it. I went to boarding school in high school with many girls from South America and they came from extremely wealthy families. I'm not sure why you are assuming people from South America don't have any money?!

I started going to Disney in 1994. All my non-DVC rooms had some kind of discount. Free Disney Dollars, free food, Magic Kingdom Club, AAA, Annual Pass, Special Offers.

No rule says Disney has to "play fair", they are a private corporation. I don't get why some people think Disney is a non-profit or a charity.

I hate to be that guy but I'm here now at all star music and between last night's pushy rude cluster at the food court and this morning's huge chanting group of Argentineans in the lobby. I have to ask can anyone confirm that everyone is paying the same rate for a Disney vacation? I feel like because this is a low crowd week (the reason I booked this week) that Disney has offered a much better rate for south American guests. I just don't see how such large groups could afford to come from south America. I am sure I am coming off as "entitled" or "over privileged" for asking this question. My only concern is that Disney is playing fair and that we're all paying the same price.

You are coming across as one of 2 things:
1. You are "that guy" with a self entitlement streak a mile wide OR
2. Someone who despite previous visits to WDW, is remarkably uneducated regarding how WDW (or any other hotel in the world) sets rates on their rooms.

In either case, this thread will hopefully give you the education you obviously need.

And I'm still trying to figure out which you're more upset about. The fact that someone else might have gotten a better deal than you did ( in which case ). Or the poor behavior of the group (in which case, lodge a complaint in person with the resort manager).

Yes, thank you for mentioning that non-profit outlook- so many people seem to feel like that! "Well if Walt were alive, he'd be appalled and immediately cut prices in half". No.

As long as Disney doesn't break the law by discriminating against protected groups, they can charge each person whatever they please in order to fill rooms.

If there was ever a time at which all Disney guests paid the same prices, it wasn't recently.

And to add to this. Ever go in and buy a car? Any car? And when you were so exited by the deal you got, whatever deal you got, you went into work the next day and someone asked you, "how much did you pay?" And you, in your excitement, tells the amount and the person says, "well, Joe from Accounting got the same thing but for $2000 lower from X dealer" and now, well, you feel less than excited.

A man with two watches never knows the correct time. So comparing what person A pays for something and what person B pays for something is not a good idea. Heck, we go for dinner twice a week and we don't even pay the same amount as the next person because we have coupons.

Please remember not to name nationalities in your post or replies to same. I edited a couple here rather than delete. Thanks Danny

I don't know if true or not but when I was at POP and having HUGE issues with the big tour groups, I was told by CM that they actually pay rack rates for their rooms, plus spend for tickets, food and lots of extra spending. They keep letting them come back because it's a huge amount of cash.

If we hadn't experienced that ourselves with our HS team going to stay at POP I might have figured they were totally off. We paid rack rate to keep them in a resort that was not going to be full of the other teams. Disney refused a group discount.

But if they are there now, I am so glad my upcoming trip is offsite :) I can verify, don't even think of picking up the phone, walk to the front desk and demand to be moved.

Goodness, do the large groups come all year around now? OP, you have my sympathy. I've heard that loud chanting before and it can be pretty unpleasant when they do it at your resort.

The same way you did, they paid for it.

I am sorry but you are "that guy" and are coming off in a way that's just bad.

I am not sure why you ever thought this was a good idea to post?

Totally disagree. If a group is loud enough to make other uncomfortable and are blocking others from navigating the area, management should step in and politely explain the comfort of all guest is important and please try to be respectful of those around you. What do you think would happen if other families started trying to scream over them, would that be okay? As far as your comment to the OP, you are "that guy" that feels the need to make said OP feel bad "...not sure why you ever thought this was a good idea to post..." Really? That was hurtful, OP asked a question with the intent to understand the situation.

So much for Disney banning the chanting.

What's up with this "chanting" situation? I have never encountered this and am totally confused. Would someone please explain? What exactly are they chanting and why... and where for that matter??

I know it stinks been there for that a time or two,,, you know we don't even know they might be paying a lot more for their rooms than we are... Disney makes a ton of money off these big groups... ( not just south american tour groups but they are easier to recognize) cheerleaders, pop warner, gymnastic groups,,,, all of these come yearly... it is a regular steady amount of money coming in to WDW pockets!!!!! they or not going to do any more then they have too, to control these groups,,, saw another thread about Disney clamping down on chanting... I dont look for much to change... what are they going to do.... Kick 200 people off property no way that will happen.... when you see them coming just go the other way.... not much else you can do....

Don't stay at a value resort. I've stayed at CSR several times and loved it because of it's low crowds, quiet atmosphere and less Disney feel. Last trip, stayed at All Star Sports and it was beyond a step down....

We loved value resorts until we came across the same issue. Never went back.

People pay different rates every day at Disney. Did you not know that? I have had pin codes, AAA rates, group travel agent rates, general discounts and free upgrades that all made my price different than the person next door.

It shouldn't matter where you stay. Guest should respect others around them. Disney isn't cheap no matter where you stay, but cost aside, If your taking your kids for the first time, the last thing you want is a crowd of strangers loudly pushing their way through ride lines or resort areas.

But then there are those who don't want the "convention" atmosphere. Seeing people with name tags walking around the resort is a turn off. So, values have their appeal and disadvantages as do moderates and even deluxes. Not sure I would advise not staying at a value resort to be the answer to the question asked in the original post.

Schedule a trip for January and your questions will be answered!lol:)

Seriously,we can't mention Nationalties so it is just about impossible to go any further in answering your questions.:)

Sorry you can't use nationalities most folks understand , the South Americans you are speaking of. I just edited a few threads when I could have deleted. I issued no warnings or infraction points to anyone. This is just a Dis rule and if I don't enforce it,somebody else will. Thanks Danny
