No, cotton candy isn't icky; it's STicky!! And yummy and impossible to eat without feeling like a kid and grinning like a nut! We just had some yesterday at a ballgame; can you tell?
I think you feel this way just because you don't understand the goodness that is in Cotton Candy. It is the perfect food. When you feel bitter it brings you sweet. When you feel bloated it brings you lightness. And when you are done you have that cool paper cone that you can use as a bullhorn. It has been said that Cotton Candy is the building block to all matter.

Cotton candy is too sweet. It gives me a headache, and a toothache just biting into the stuff. And I don't like the way it sticks in the pits in my teeth.
What are funnel cakes? Is that anything like fried dough? Or is it something that doesn't exist here in the north?

It's the same thing! I had an elephant ear up in Jersey with my husband for the first time maaaaaaaany years ago, but down here they are referred to as funnel cakes!
When I had it up there for the first time, we just got it with the powdered sugar and a bit of chocolate I think but it was long threads of dough. They had called it an elephant ear.
Anything with fried dough and something on it is the best!! Yum!
