Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

the best part of that article is the word "opinion". I'm all for being smart - but I don't like to act out of fear based on collective panic that just layers on top of itself.

It was also penned by an anonymous source . . . the hallmark of top-notch journalism. At the end of the article, it reads:

The author is a senior doctor in a major European hospital. She asked to remain anonymous because she has not been authorized to speak to the press.

If I'm going to make drastic changes to my lifestyle, I'd like to at least know WHO is dishing out the info and what his/her credentials are. In this situation, an epidemiologist's advice holds far more weight than a podiatrist's. And they could both be senior doctors in a major European hospital.

TBH, if I am going to make drastic changes, I am going to demand multiple trusted sources. With COVID-19 we have more than met that threshold, but that is too often not true.

The author of the article is a doctor in Western Europe publishing anonymously due to an inability to speak on the record via her employment contract. Reputable news publications have rules about making that statement (anonymous opinion) so I'm inclined to believe she is who she says she is.

From my POV it seems common sensible that both the Brits and North Americans are at the beginning of this pandemic and would be wise to learn from what we can all plainly see is happening in other parts of the world.

So, we talked to someone at Delta and they offered us vouchers to use for the next year for the value of our flights. So at the very least, we should get that. But, we have a few weeks to see what happens.
Ooooh, so close!! :hyper: Our airline announced today they are crediting back any cancellations for flights up to April 30. Crossing fingers and toes they make another extension - our flights are for May 1.

Probably should have waited a few more hours before posting.
Only because Washington stare banned large gatherings and California had a similar ruling with large gatherings inside arenas. When the NBA announced that Thursday game in California would be played with no fans then the NCAA acted. Basically they knew if they didn't act the state's would. Believe it the NCAA acted because they had no choice not because they care

I don't doubt she's a doctor.

When all is said and done, the identity of the doctor is really a non-issue. The real issue, imo, is that the media has whipped the general public into a frenzy with opinion pieces like these as well as click-bait headlines. Can you imagine how many people read this piece 1) not realizing it's an OPINION and 2) understood it's by an anonymous source whose credentials cannot be verified. The author doesn't even cite her source when she claims there's a 6% mortality rate from covid-19. Doesn't that number and obvious source omission raise a huge red flag?

Personally, I choose to take my advice from established organizations. And as of now, there are only a few recommendations against travel per the CDC website:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/faqs.html
Even the WHO has not advised people to stop travelling: https://www.who.int/news-room/artic...nal-traffic-in-relation-to-covid-19-outbreak/
The WHO recommendation is from late February, but as far as I know, it still stands as the current guideline.

Travel someplace where you will be alone is what they mean. When they say people should practice social distancing they are not saying travel to a place where you and hordes of other people are jammed into a small area or waiting in endless queue pens.
