Is Chef Mickey's THAT gross?

We went to CM two weeks ago for breakfast, had not been there for 3 years (and honestly - I didn't remember the food at all that trip - it was my first time ever at WDW!!!)

When we went on 4/9, it was my sister (who is extremely picky when she eats out), myself, DD9 and DGreatNephew6. We all enjoyed it very much. The characters were great (some of the other diners - not so much), and the food was good basic breakfast food for the most part! My sister even complimented the breakfast pizza - and she is hard to please!!! It is buffet food - not five star dining - but when we go to the character meals, I really go for the characters first, and the food second.

Someone commented on another thread where there were all positive comments about Donald's Breakfastasaurus at AK, that it was strange because another post had all negative comments. It is all personal taste/preference, as well asl their individual experience. If you are having a "not so Magical" day for one reason or another... you might put a "not so Magical" spin on the dining experience as well.

I have been trying all the character meals in recent months - we are through just about all of them, we are fortunate in that respect that we live close and can go - just to eat.... but I have not been totally disappointed by any, some are higher up on my list than others, but that is my personal experience! I realize when you are vacationing, and you have a family of some size (we are just and adult and a child (for a few more month))- that it could be quite a financial investment to eat somewhere that you don't care for, and that can cause concern in making your choices!

I guess i'm the same with movies, etc. If it is something that looks interesting to me, I will check it out - even if the majority of reviews are negative!

My vote is :thumbsup2 for Chef Mickey!

Our family enjoys Chef Mickey's. I think the food was fine. We usually go for dinner and have already scheduled ADR for Aug.

Hi-- we went to Chef Mickey's in November 2004 and we LOVED it! In fact we are going back in two weeks. It was our very first Character Meal at WDW and we were pleasantly surprised with the food. It was fresh, refilled frequently and had lots of selection. We also loved the desserts-- great cheesecakes and the kids loved every aspect of the dinner too.

We also went to LTT and loved that one too-- mainly for the character interaction. We aren't doing that one-- only because i got ressies at Crystal Palace for 8:05 breakfast and we wanted to do Chef Mickeys that day too. We are going to try Garden Grill instead of LTT this trip.

I would recommend both LTT and Chef Mickeys, as would my DH and DD2 and DD4! Have a great trip!

Thanks for all the opinions! Looking at my schedule, is there any other suggestions? All my breakfasts are at 9:00 am and the dinners are all at 6:00. Anything I didn't think of?

the character interaction was great, the food was fine...nothing great, but I do think it was a bit better than most chain restaurants mentioned. As a reassurance to OP, if most people's experience with CM's truly was gross, why would it be so hard to get reservations there? Every restaurant can have "off" days or nights. Our favorite spot for lunch had always been LTT, but last year, it was so bad (even when ordering our "usual") that we're passing on it this year. (BTW, LTT character dinner is great!)

Good point! Chef Mickeys is the only TS that I had a slight problem getting the time I wanted for our upcoming trip in May. We are eating at a lot of other popular places and I pretty much had my choices on times. We ate at CM's a few years ago for dinner. I really enjoyed everything about it :)

We eat dinner at CM our first night every trip. My DH & DD like it better than I do (too loud and crazy for me; and it's always so cold where we end up sitting!) and I mainly go along with it because it's become our "tradition". My DD will be 9 during this next trip and I'm not sure how many more trips she'll want to do character dining. Oh, and we have the family picture that they take at CM from every trip so those are neat to look at and see how DD has grown.

DD actually figured out a couple years ago that the characters aren't real .... but she just broke this news to me recently because she didn't want ME to be disappointed. :goodvibes I guess I'd get a bit too excited (for her sake) when characters came around so she thought I thought they were real. Of course, the Princesses are still real to her. :thumbsup2

We always go to chef Mickeys first night of trip - it gets everyone in the mood. My entir family loves the food. Can you say parmesean mashed potatos? MMMMMM Huge dessert buffet and have never had to wait in line.

I've only eaten at 2 Disney buffets: Chef Mickey's (dinner) and Crystal Palace (lunch). Our entire family enjoyed CM much more that CP and I often read the exact opposite from other Dis'ers. Anyway, no, I don't think it's gross at all.

We went to CHef Mickey's for both the breakfast and dinner buffets and no complaints here. The food was good at both and the character interaction was great!! If I had to choose one, I'd pick the dinner though--I just thought there was more offered for the price. I normally do not like buffets, but we went to Chef Mickey's and Hollywood & Vine at the Studios--we all thought the food was great at both. :thumbsup2 Enjoy!!! :sunny:

We have been to both breakfast and dinner, but won't return for dinner. The quality of the food was just...eh and the buffet area was a mess. However, we have enjoyed many breakfasts here.
