Is Boma's THAT bad?!

I love Boma. It is far and away my favorite restaurant at WDW. It is really not very adventurous at all. I've eaten at African restaurants all over the country and Boma is the most toned down flavor wise of any I have ever been at.

I have no idea why people call it adventurous really.

We love Boma and have gone there every one of our last 3 trips and have it booked for our upcoming trip in May! We love the variety and the flavors. Service has always been very good to outstanding for us. Try it and see for yourself!

Boma is a high quality restaurant that has a lot of (for us) unusual food and some pretty common things too. Their desserts are great too.

I think that those who criticize Boma are likely more the meat and potatoes people which is certainly understandable. Boma does have some pretty ordinary dishes too for those who don't care for 'different' seasoning.

Besides you get to hang out at AKL so what's not to love? ;)

DH and I didn't like Boma at all but we agreed it was better to have tried it once than wonder about it. Between the crowds, the noise and not liking the food, we'll just stick to Tusker House. It's cheaper and we like the food there better.

I think Boma is one of those restaurants that people will have a strong opinion about; they'll either love it or hate it, not many in betweens. The food is unique. It's not steak & potatoes and it's not hamburgers & hotdogs. Some people's palates just aren't accustomed to it.

That being said, we thought it was outstanding when we went last year for dinner. Providing we can afford to squeeze it in while trying new places as well, we will definitely go again.

Here's a rule to live by: Don't base any decisions on opinions on these boards. You can find threads criticizing or complimenting literally everything. There is no consensus when it comes to Disney.

Try Boma. It intrigues you. You wouldn't have made a reservation there if something didn't sound appealing.

My thoughts? Boma is one of the best restaurants on property and undoubtedly the best buffet. I strongly recommend it.

But don't take my word on it.

I don't recall cinnamon taste :confused3

There are some different tastes, but I like it there. My DH also really likes it and is one fo the few places he requests

I would keep it and give it a try. When people give their opinions, there is NO place that everyone loves
there are lovers and haters of everything, even a dole whip :scared1: how can you not love a dole whip :rotfl:

I think they flavor some foods and meats with nutmeg.

Boma is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere! However, as someone pointed out, everyone has their own point of view on food and everyone's tastes are different. My sweet Grandpa used to say, "That's why they make chocolate ice cream....." ;)

We love Boma. First place we're going to eat at when we get back.

There's a wide variety of things to eat. And lots of yummy deserts. Although I think I get the cinnamon comment. I noticed a few choices like that, but certainly not that many.

To the contrary! Boma is one of the few places our whole family loves.

Our picky eaters can find "plain" food -- fresh fruit, grilled fish, mac and cheese -- and the rest of us enjoy the African-ish good stuff, which most certainly does NOT "all taste like cinnamon."

Try it!

We are not picky, and we really disliked it. It really didn't seem to have enough meat options to fill us up, and even the desserts were disappointing. I did look at pictures of the buffet previously, and didn't think the food looked overly appetizing and went anyway, so it is probably my fault. And some of the thing that I had seen on the pictures like potatoes with afritude that I thought I might like were not there when we went. It felt like the selection (except for salads and weird soups) was really limited.

I wouldn't cancel it. Like others have said, just because some people don't like it doesn't mean that you won't. It's a very popular restaurant. We love it. We don't go to dinner every trip, maybe every other trip, but certainly frequently.

The only way you'll know if you like it is to check it out for yourself. It may turn out to be one of your favorites. If you are interested in the menu & like to try new things, you should definately go.

I agree 100%. If you are even mildly interested in a restaurant try it once and form your own opinion. Everyone has different tastes and Boma can be intimidating to people who are used to "meat and potatoes" meals.

IMHO, Boma is the best buffet at WDW, but don't listen to me - try it!

Worst case you will have a story to tell on Disboards when you return.

We love Boma. It is our favorite buffet at DW. It is a chance for the kids to try new foods, which we always encourage, as well as the old standby chicken nuggets, fruit salad, etc.

I love the different meats, they are delicious. I do avoid the dishes that are heavy with the cinnamon. My husband LOVES the cinnamon sweet potato dish. I think that is his favorite.

I would say try it... you never know.

I agree with many of the other posters. I tried Boma for the first time last year and fell in love with it! It is now one of my favorites in WDW! Not only is the food fantastic (I was forcing food into my already stuffed self because it tasted so good!), but if you've never stayed at AKL it is the perfect opportunity to take a look around. I definitely think you should stick with your reservation and see how you like it for yourself!

I have eaten at Boma a dozen times and I can honestly tell you I do not remember one dish with any cinnamon taste at all.

I whole heartedly disagree with the original poster that in Boma you will find more variety of flavors than anywhere else in WDW.
Easily proven by the 5 soups offered nightly alone.

It is my favorite restaurant on WDW property and we have been to all of them multiple times:) Going to morrow night!

It's Boma, not Boma's, and it's not bad at all. I actually HATE the title of this thread. So misleading to people. It (by and large) gets great reviews and is a very popular spot. Do what you want, but I love Boma.

We have eaten at Boma 3 times now...twice for dinner and once for breakfast. All three visits were just delicious! :thumbsup2

Boma's is the BEST!!!! it's our entire familys' 'can't miss!'
