Is Boma's THAT bad?!

If you are STRICTLY a Meat-and-Potatoes-and-White-Bread eater, you will not enjoy Boma. I am a Hard Core Foodie and it is among my favorite or restaurants ANYWHERE (along with Tusker House and Jiko). OTOH, hubby (AKA "John Wayne") went with me there and everything he consumed would have fit on a salad plate--with room to spare. The whole "Boma Expereince" was just lost on him!

My BF and I are foodies of distinction and we LOVE Boma. Maybe it's because we live in NYC that this restaurant isn't "out there" in terms of cuisine as it is for others. Anyways, he is an adventurous eater and while I am picky, I still have tons and tons of options when we go. In no way do I like eating bland food and Boma satisfies my taste buds :)

I liked it for both breakfast and dinner. My children aren't foodies (but they aren't overly picky either) and they were fine with it (they aren't begging to go back but I think that's mostly because there wasn't anything special (like characters, or dancing, or fish to look at.)

My DH is a notoriously picky eater and he loved Boma. He liked that he was able to try a tiny bit of everything and then could decide what he wanted to eat more of. He especially loved trying some of their African beers. The cinnamon comment is lost on me - I don't remember thinking that at all. The worst that can happen is you try it and don't like it. Then you'll know not to go there next time! :)

Would dare to say that Boma is one of the best restaurants at WDW. Seriously, have never had a bad meal there.

Boma is highly regarded. On many polls here on disboards it rates highly.

IMHO, Boma is the best restaurant on WDW property!

I go to WDW just so I can eat at Boma (I love it THAT much!)

With that said, I love Boma because it is totally different than what I would normally eat here in the Philly 'burbs. I enjoy everything everything from the Bobotie, Pap, FuFu, salads, soups, desserts and esp the hummus!

It is a great restaurant where you can get a delicious, different type of meal! And I love the fact that it is a buffet-that way I can sample everything & try something new.

I'm reading the below post about the "Bottom 3" restaurants at Disney and there are a TON of people who put Boma's dinner on the list. Most of the people said everything has an overwhelming cinnamon taste. Is this true?? I thought it sounded like an incredible dinner, but if it's really no good I'd like to change my reservation!:confused3

I've learned that opinions on restaurants is just that, an opinion. What is great to one is the worst to another. A few examples for me would be Coral Reef, WCC, and Ohana. I read how horrible these places were and after eating there, I found them to be most do's on my list. I also read how awesome, incredible, and almost life changing eating at Le'Cellier was and I found it to be average and far from meeting the praises of so many on here. For me it is not worth the hassle to wake up the moment the clock strikes midnight at 180 days out and frantically dial for an ADR at Le'Cellier.

This is just an example of opinion, we all have them and they can be so very different from someone else. Keep your ADR and experience Boma for yourself. (My opinion of Boma, very good place).;)

Wow, I thought this thread died after my 7th or 8th post! I'm sooo glad most of you are recommending it, can't wait to try out some of the food this place has to offer!

We have just returned from WDW and enjoyed a wonderful meal at Boma. I am a vegetarian and DH loves meat so between us we tried lots a different dishes and both loved our dinner there.
With so much variety you will find some things you like and some things you don't so just sample as many dishes as possible
By the way, the Carrott and Ginger soup is fantastic !!!

Our town is full of chain buffet blandness so we love Boma for it's diveristy and my husband has to be restrained from going there multiple times each trip. It's also our fav breakfast buffet- quinoa!
For us, the soup array is enough to recomend it, don't get me started on the salads!

We tried BOMA on our last trip and we enjoyed our meal there. I scheduled it after AK closed but allowed us about an hour from when we got there to our ADR time. We really enjoyed exploring AKL since we had never been there before and it's so different from other Disney Resorts. The food at BOMA was good and even my DD5 (at the time) found things that she liked on the regular buffet as well as the kids buffet. I don't know if we'll go back (don't have it scheduled for this year) but it was definitely a good experience. Go and try it! It may turn out to be a "must do" for your family!!

Just wanted to throw in another glowing review for Boma.
It is one of our top 5 restaurants (Jiko being #1, note: we haven't tried V&A yet!).

We have never had a bad meal there and we have been alone, with groups of friends that included picky eaters, vegetarians and meat and potatoes type of peeps. Everybody raved about it and found something they loved.

When I booked it for a grand gathering of friends I was scared they wouldn't "get it", but boy was I wrong! Everybody was so pleased! :cool1: we had an awesome time trying every single thing, exchanging opinions on what we liked and what we didn't and even daring each other to get out of our comfort zones and try something new.

Several of our friends came out with brand new recipes and favorite dishes to take home and share with their families. It was a wonderful dinner. :thumbsup2

We have had the breakfast at Boma several times too, and YUM! The selection on hot cereals alone (someone already mentioned the quinoa!!) plus the juice, etc. Truly is like no other breakfast in property.

Definitely give it a try, go with an open mind, and try a bit of everything the first time around, if you are unsure of something, don't be afraid to speak to the chefs at the line, they are very nice and they will let you know about the dishes. :thumbsup2

My family was a big fan of Boma, food and atmosphere, they had plenty of selections even for the non adventurous eater as well. The cinammon flavor is probably garam marsala which is a common spice used in many indian dishes.

Just got back from WDW on the 27th for our first trip! Boma was my fave TS meal! The first time I went up to the buffet I was kind of selective and not too adventurous. My mom tried all sorts of stuff and was loving it all. So I went back up and loaded my plate with all sorts of stuff to try. YUM!! Would definitely go back!:thumbsup2

I have only started trying new things in the last couple of years and I loved Boma. I sampled everything and found that I enjoyed most of it. For a finicky eater, that is saying a lot. I really, really enjoyed Boma and look forward to eating there again on a future trip.

It's hard not to add another comment in favor of Boma! Our family loved it:thumbsup2

I am not an adventurous eater by any stretch of the imagination. I was very anxious about eating at Boma for the first time. But I tasted small severing of all sorts of foods and found an abundance of dishes that I really liked. There were indeed quite a few things I did not care for – no problem just moved on to something else.
It amazed me how many adults were lined up at the chicken finger and spaghetti area and were not even trying the African food. I’m sure these are the type of folks who believed they did not get their money’s worth and did not care for the restaurant.

Another vote for Boma here! Have gone there 2x - first time we loved it, 2nd time we loved it even MORE. This time we're going on our first nite there, and actually, I kinda wish we could go 2x this trip! :)
