Is Boma's THAT bad?!

I think many who don't like Boma simply have a taste for milder foods. My DS5 is a hot dog/mac and cheese eater but was able to find some things to eat there. I loved Boma and will eat there again. It's nice to hear opinions from others, but don't make decisions based on them.

I am not a cinnamon fan, so I certainly would have noticed an overwhelming cinnamon theme if there had been one. There wasn't. As others have stated, you always have to try something for yourself to know if it's right for YOUR family. The only thing I thought was terrible at Boma was the watermelon rind salad, but someone must like it, or they'd have removed it from the buffet by now. AKL is absolutely worth visiting, save time to walk around and discover the lodge and view the animals. The worst thing that can happen is you end up filling up on chicken strips and mac and cheese, if you don't care for the other offerings.

My family really loves Boma. :goodvibes It's a must-do for us each trip. I don't recall any overwhelming taste of cinnamon as many other posters have said. But each person does have their own tastes and likes/dislikes. If you haven't tried it, please do! You might end up really enjoying it and if you don't like it well at least you will know for yourself rather than wondering if you should have given it a shot.

Just my opinion. :confused3

I actually think it's pretty good. It's not my favorite by far and I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it if I wasn't staying at AKL, but that's mainly because I'm not a buffet person. The food is really fresh and of good quality and they had a lot of stuff for kids. The little mini desserts were really good and I say this as someone who bakes and is a total dessert snob. I could see a trio of them being served at Citricos or another signature restaurant, they were that good.

We didn't think Boma was bad at all. It isn't our favorite, but definitely not the worst. I'm a pretty picky eater, so I didn't love everything I tried. But I would say the buffet had some unusual items that you can't find at every other buffet. They definitely had some different offerings.

Our service was EXCELLENT! I cannot stress that enough. Our server was phenomenal, and even fixed things when I gave him the WRONG KTTK card for pay. we had a split stay and this was our changing night--I gave him the NEW resort card when I meant to give him the OLD resort card. He fixed things up and ensured that we wouldn't be short a meal on the second part of our trip.

We love Boma! It's the only restaurant that we've gone to every time on our 3 trips. It's an exciting and fun dining experience, imho! They encourage you to try a little of everything, and it's so much fun to try all the different flavors. A lot of the savories have a tinge of *sweet*, which I'm not usually that crazy about. But I find more than enough that is to my liking, and even though I hate the watermelon rind salad, for example, it was fun to try it for the first time.

Also, their bread pudding with vanilla or chocolate rum sauce is to DIE for!! :thumbsup2

Glad you're keeping your reservation! Let us know how you liked it when you get back! ;)

We did BOMAs last summer for the first time (DH, me, DS-22 and DD-20) and enjoyed it, not only the food, but the full resort experience. There are many unusual dishes on the buffet and it was fun experimenting with a small taste of each. Then we settled in to get seconds on those we like. 4 votes to repeat it this summer--we loved strolling through the lobby and off-shoot wings reading about all the items in the display cases, and it was sheer luck that our dining was over just in time for dusk when the animals were being fed and the fire pit lit. it was so much fun to watch the locations where the animals' food was being put--giraffes were just in front of us munching away and we basically had the fire pit to ourselves :thumbsup2 How awesome is that ;)

I love love love boma!!! It is in my top five hands down! I love both the breakfast and the dinner! veryy good:)

Boma is a must-do for our family every trip. I am an adventurous eater and my husband is picky- and we both adore this restaurant. We book early- at opening for dinner and the line is not too long and the food is fresh. I think you should try it. The resort is a fun experience too. Good luck deciding!

I would keep your reservation and try it yourself.

I am not a particularly adventurous eater, but we tried Boma for the first time on our most recent trip and we all enjoyed it. I am not sure that the type of food they serve there is at the top of my favorites list, but we all had a really nice time and tasted things we'd never had before.

I noticed that a lot of the flavors seemed to combine something spicy with something sweet. (Not spicy-hot like mexican food, but a spice flavor) They used cinnamon sometimes, coconut, chocolate, etc. in foods that I wouldn't normally expect those flavors in. It was interesting.

I only took one thing off the buffet that I "couldn't eat." (I didn't care for the watermelon rind salad). There were some things I went back for seconds, and some that I did not... but I'm a picky eater and I did fine at Boma!

We love Boma!! It is my favourite place to eat!!

I thought Boma was ok..All others in our party LOVED it..Party of 4 adults and 4 kids..For me most of the dishes were too sweet (including the meat and side dishes). I'm a salt girl..I loved the soups there for just that reason. They were salty not sweet. Just my opinion

Would I go again, Yes.:)

If you are one of those people that likes everything to be bland and taste like white bread and boiled potatoes, then Boma is not the place for you.

If you like food that actually has flavor... then Boma is excellent.

I had heard so many good things about Boma, that I tried it twice 'cause I thought I was loosing my mind after the first time trying it and not liking it! Both times I thought the food was boring & just not good. Not worth it to me.

I'd try it for yourself though, but don't go with super high expectations.

Last time we went to BOMA's out of the five who went only one (me) liked it. For taking the time to get there (we drove) and then the selections my family was mad at me for picking this one.:confused3 I love THAI food, and trying different things, and for the most part so do my girls. But this one was not a hit for my family.:confused3

My girls love Park Faire, Crystal Palace and most of all the BC?YC pickings too.

Boma is one of our favorites and a must go to for pretty much every trip. I am a picky eater (hate beef, seafood and a good amount of veggies) and I love going there. I never found that the food has a cinamon taste to it. DH usually goes up 3-4 times and comes back with a full plate each time. Not being a big sweets person, I don't usually raid the desserts (DH really likes them though) but I absolutely love the assorted hummas that they have.

One thing I have found about the restaurants in WDW is people either really love them or hate them. Everyone has different tastes and likes. I have yet to get anything I didn't like at any restaurant - one of our favorite parts of the trip is the food!

Boma is my favorite! I have to tell everybody I know who goes to WDW to try it out, because they just might find a new favorite. It could end up being somebody's Dole Whip, Mickey ear ice cream bar, Le Cellier (basically, becoming one of your beloved WDW treats) and I wouldn't want them to miss out on that opportunity! It's my family tradition to eat there the day we arrive, plus a few times throughout the trip. Basically, I just love Boma!

I'm vegetarian and there is so much there for me. You can end up with five or six plates of different items each time, plus the desserts, so I'm never stuck with a few items while there are plenty of options for non-vegetarians. If you're a little apprehensive of the flavors, I'd stick with things like the flatbreads, hummus, the pap with chaka laka, mealie bread, and the mushroom soup (if it's there the day you are). Those flavors are familiar enough, but still different, so if you like them, you can work your way up.

Boma and Biergarten are our bottom two. Just not enough 'normal' food for us. We aren't that adventurous maybe but it's our opinion...
