Is Boma worth it.

Nope. Boma is the best of the Disney buffets that we've tried but not worth the price out of pocket. That said, if the choice is $45 a person at Boma or some other buffet then Boma is your best choice. But $200+ for a party of 4 is a lot of money.

We also didn't think it was terribly fantastic. I wouldn't pay OOP for it again. If we were on Dining Plan and staying at AKL again, would probably go just for the convenience. If I recall correctly we were close to or over $100 for the 3 of us (DH, myself, DS who was 7 at the time) which I knew going into it and know is the price to pay for buffets at WDW, but it seemed like a very pricey dinner for how (little) we enjoyed it.

Yes! Love Boma and so excited to be staying at AKL again soon so we can eat there twice... Or three times... Or four times!!!!!!

We're staying at AKL on our next trip, and I am stoked that it will be so convenient to eat at Boma. DS15 made me promise we'll also go to Boma on our subsequent trip (when we're staying somewhere else). I guess that puts us squarely in the "worth it" camp!

The food is good but I find Boma not relaxing, it seem like someone at our table was always waiting in line for the buffet. When someone came back another person left for the buffet line again. I don't think I would eat there again just for that reason!

We have paid out of pocket for Boma and we are fine with it. We find it fun to try some of the special dishes served; this even includes some unusual deserts.

There is is enough American style food, too.

I wouldn't go for breakfast. We have never been rushed to leave, either. I think one time we spent three hours. We were enjoying the time with another couple who met us there.

In a word......YES! The food with the African spices was different and amazing. The theming and service great.

We are returning our next trip in November

Enjoy!

I'm going to be the lone voice on this one... we were not terribly impressed with it. I'm not a fan of buffets to begin with but DH talked me into going. I didn't think it was worth it. The food was just "ok". I felt like most of my food got cold while I waited in line to get other foods. Since we didn't have a table of 20 people, we were shoved into a small area and everyone standing in line to get food was staring at us while we ate. We much preferred the other restaurant at AKL and would go back to it and pay any amount, in a heartbeat!

Your not the only one who feels this. I am also not a fan of buffets and have yet to find a buffet anywhere on this green earth where I would call the food excellent. IMHO, there is no way you can prepare food in a kitchen for mass quantities of people in advance and then placed on a serving table for droves of people too pile it high on their plates; quantity will always win out over quality. But with that said, I will say that Boma is the best of the buffets in WDW. It is one of the few that I would rate as "average" when it comes to food quality. Sure, it's different, but for me it's still average. As for it being worth it, NO WAY. There is no way a buffet charging $42-$45 is worth it. I get it's Disney, but if I'm paying that kind of money then I'm finding myself a good signature restaurant for dinner. In fact, I'd much rather take that $45 and go to Jiko just a few feet away; Other than V&A, Jiko may very well be the best restaurant in WDW. :goodvibes

Absolutely! I would pay that for the soups and desserts alone!! (Hence my Dis-name). Boma is an amazing place, and I generally don't enjoy buffets. As far as crowds, we try to go early or late, to avoid backups at the serving stations. As far as the meat carvers, after years of being disappointed, I finally learned that all I need to do is ask for more. I agree with pp who said they just don't want to waste. If you go, don't miss the Zebra Dome desserts!!! Btw, breakfast at Boma is also fantastic!!

Yes, definitely worth it! There's so much to choose from and the selection is so interesting.

I prefer Tusker House over Boma. I think Boma is just too bland. I was expecting interesting spices but found it had been neutered just like everywhere else. TH, at least, has smoked salmon and capers on the buffet.

I think it's quite good, but it's not a "must do" for me. I've enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there and will plan on going again, but there are better restaurants that I would rather spend my time and money at. Especially since it's out of the way for me since I stay at POFQ so either I have to bus from a park or take a taxi. Plus, I usually also have a meal at Jiko planned so that would be two trips out to AKL for me.

We loved Jiko. We stopped in without a reservation and they were so accommodating. There was something in one of the dishes that I couldn't eat and our waitress told me to pick whatever I wanted and the chef would fix it for me. I ended up exchanging a sauce that was on the meat and they made it perfect for me. The drinks were awesome. They served my son, who was five at the time, like he was a king. We wished we had planned more meals there!

. . . . ., it seem like someone at our table was always waiting in line for the buffet. When someone came back another person left for the buffet line again.
the key to avoiding time in line in Boma is that you don't go stand in that long line at the end of the buffet unless you're actually going to the carving station. If you want the salads or the soups or the hummus or the desserts then you can go directly to those pods and save a lot of time.

We went to Boma in February for the first time and the experience was less than stellar.
The line for the meats was absurdly long and when I timed my wait, it was 20 minutes. When you have three kids less than 5 and two adults taking turns to go through the food line, it makes for an awful long wait before the whole family could all sit together.
I have heard great raves about the food on this forum, but the food was really no different than any other buffet, Disney or otherwise. Fish, meat, standard salads, and soups. Not worth $50.

Boma taught me the true meaning of SOUP. I used to think it was an appetizer or just a small something before the main course. Boma showed me that soup can be a souperstar!! I dream of the chicken corn chowder or the mushroom soup. So good. In fact, DH and I often joke that if we found out Boma was closing tomorrow we'd drive 9 hours to WDW TODAY for one last meal.

You definitely have to try Boma at least once. We have gone a number of times and will go again. Jiko is a big favorite too, but instead of paying just under $100 for the Boma buffet for two people, we end up with a $200 bill at Jikos; if we do drinks, appetizer, main course and dessert, tip. Then Boma really seems worth it!
