Is "Bella" a name? * UPDATE POST 56*

OMG this is so weird cuz last week we were in the Magic Kingdom in line to meet Ariel (for the 10th time) and I heard a mother calling her daughter BELLA, and that was like the 3rd time that trip that I had heard that name. I immediately TEXTED my husband and told him that I want to have another baby and name her BELLA! now mind you, we have 2 daughters and I am FIXED. totally fixed, and we never regretted it...not once. I never ever wanted another baby until that very moment...so I say go for it!

I love the name BELLA, if that's what you want. Isabella is great, but i would call her Izzy..lol. I also love Olivia (Livvie) and Ava....as you can see, I have given up on ever having a boy...that would totally ruin the princess mindset that we have when we go to Disney :rotfl:

Good luck, and god bless

I like Bella, better then Izzabella. It is a real name. I would of named my 2nd it, but DH wasn't on board. We named her Lillian, and only call her Lily. I wish we would of just called her Lily. My advice is name them what you plan to call them. I really wish we had.

My oldest DD (Anna Rose) calls her bitty baby twin doll Bella. She loves the name. :thumbsup2

I also have a Lillian that we always call Lilly. We gave our twins longer first names that were based on the nicknames we wanted them to have. We needed a name that could balance out either their long formal name which is my maiden name-DH's name longitalianlastname-shortbritishlastname OR go equally as well with just the shortened last name (DH's) that we all go by. Everyone has the long name but no one uses it except on legal documents. When they get older they can choose for themselves. So anyhoo, on that note, we have Lucian but we always call him Luke, and Lillian who we always call Lilly.

I think Bella is a wonderful name!

Well, our next door neighbors have a dog named Bella. When our DD is outside, the dog is "BellaDoggie" and DD is "BellaGirl" -- gets pretty confusing when we're yelling for one or the other. She's a rescue dog.

My boss named his English bulldog Bella. So I said I'm going to name our next dog "Zoe," his DD's name. Doesn't matter if the dog is male!!

And my best friend, who lives in San Antonio, also rescued a black lab named Bella and avoided telling me the dog's name for, like, 6 months.

We have Zoey the male cat. We thought he was a girl when we got him, he was still little and things hadn't,um, dropped yet. :rotfl2: He's still Zoey though

Isabella was actually like 6th last year in popular names. It was 7th or 8th when I named our Bella "Isabella" in 2003. I wanted "Piper" and got shot down by just about everybody.

There's also another girl in her class who goes by "Isabella" and my Bella says "I want to be called 'Isabella.' It's a Be-U-tiful name, Mommy!"

I had a Piper in my school. I always liked that name.

OP- Bella Christina is a beautiful name!:goodvibes

My friends grandmother's name is Bella, she's up there in age too, so I'd say it's been around for some time. I love the name too! Best wishes to you and your DH for an eventless pregnancy and easy labor!:goodvibes

My niece is Bella, although her given name is Isabella.

I'm a big fan of naming kids what you want them to be called. I would not think twice about naming my child Bella if that is what I wanted to call her. If I wanted her to be called Isabella, I'd name her that.

** UPDATE **

Thanks everyone. I was truly expecting a lot of negative comments :duck: .

It's a go!!!! If it's a girl, her name will be Bella Christina (after my sister). My husband is 100% Italian and I'm 1/2 Italian so we know the meaning well. Our last name is very Italian so we definitely need something a bit "ethnic" to flow well. Bella and Gianna both go well but Gianna holds a special place in my heart for when we adopt. I would not feel right using it now because it is meant for her... if that makes sense.

That's the perfect name for her then!! Now, I can't wait to see pictures of the baby when she/he is born.

DH and I have our boy's name picked out (Joseph) and had a girl's name (Gianna) but the girl's name we choose was for the daughter we will be adopting. Since that is temporarily on hold, I haven't decided yet if we will use that name or save that... I really need to think about it. The other name we like but that has become way too popular is Isabella, although we would call her Bella, which got me to thinking. We LOVE Bella even more but haven't heard it as a formal name. Do you think we could pull it off?

ETA: Bella actually flows better with our last name.

Bella was my great grandmothers name. I love it.

I haven't read this entire thread... but I do have a niece who was adopted from Guatemala from the Lake Isobel area. She is named Isabella and nicknamed Bella. Her sister is also adopted and named Maya in honor of her birth culture.

I like Isabella and Bella but hate the name "Izzy" so I'd call her Bella.

you and me both.. I HATE the nick name Izzy.. and i made that known when I had Isabella.. my dad thinks its funny an calls her Izzy just to annoy me. He does the same thing with my youngest son.. He is William.. aka Will,,, NOT Willy... I cant stand Willy, but of course my dad calls him willy

Yeah my parents and I both hate the name "Katie" - but obviously lots of people wanted to call me Katie when I was younger (my name's Kathryn). It took a lot of "NO, it's Kathryn!" before people got the idea.

People also would insist on calling my sister Marie "Maria". That's not her name!

I think it's difficult when you love a name but don't love the nicknames. I love the name Elizabeth, but I HATE the nicknames Liz and Lizzie so I could never call a daughter of mine Elizabeth.

My mother is a Kathy, not a Kathrine. She is always having to correct people when she is filling out paper work. As people just assume that Kathy is a nickname.

Bella is a very popular dog name in my area. Given the fact the term "Bella" is used to refer to EVERYONE, it could become extremely confusing if it were a person's name. It would be almost as bad as having the name "Mom".
