Is "Bella" a name? * UPDATE POST 56*

I know a family that named their daughter Bella...she actually does some modeling work for Disney!

Except for Palmer.

LOLOL Palmer was my moms dogs name..

I have an Isabella.. its not popular around here.. I actually got it from a soap opera. While I was pregnant and heard it and said thats it!!!

She goes by belle or bella.

I think you can pull Bella off. Im a nut who likes long names.. Belle is actually Isabella Theresa Maria :goodvibes :goodvibes

Some girl names that we on my list for the last one (who ended up being a boy ) were:

Ivy
Athena
Mia
Sophia
Gabriella

I bet he is glad he is a boy lol

My cousin's new baby is Bella Marie.

I had considered it for each of my daughters, too, but went with other names.

Definitely a name.

DH and I have our boy's name picked out (Joseph) and had a girl's name (Gianna) but the girl's name we choose was for the daughter we will be adopting. Since that is temporarily on hold, I haven't decided yet if we will use that name or save that... I really need to think about it. The other name we like but that has become way too popular is Isabella, although we would call her Bella, which got me to thinking. We LOVE Bella even more but haven't heard it as a formal name. Do you think we could pull it off?

ETA: Bella actually flows better with our last name.

Bella is Italian.....That was my childhood's best friend's name. She was italian.

Days, eh? ;)

Sure Bella is a real name. Why wouldn't it be?

Now, for me, since it means "pretty" or something like that in Italian, it feels like a bit of pressure on the kid. Then again, Linda means the same thing in Spanish, and I knew bunches of Lindas growing up!

And then we named our kiddo an Irish name that means "protector", with a middle name that means "wise one", so who am I to talk about putting pressure on a kid with their name????!!!????

:lmao:

I think it is because it's one of my neighbor's little girl's name.

I had never heard it before used as a formal name but I've never heard them call her anything else at all.

I don't see the problem with using it as a "legal" name. My legal name is truly Becky.

It's probably one of the most widely-used nicknames anywhere, and as has been pointed out, since it means pretty in Italian, is kind of punny, too.

Names that it can be a nickname for include Amabelle, Annabelle, Anabella, Arabel, Arabella, Belinda, Belladona, Beatrice, Christabel, Elizabeth, Isabel, Isabella, Mirabel, Rosabel ... huge list.

The only problem is, and it's not really a problem, is that my name, like Bella, my real name, (Miss Inga Depointe is a Main Street WDW character) is actually a foreign word (not a name in that country, an adjective). When I am with people who speak that language, they get kind of a charge out of my name. :confused3 Who cares. Just thought I'd mention it. It would be like if we named a kid "Beauty" or "Honey" or "Sweetie".

If "APPLE" is a name - then Bella is EASILY a name too.:thumbsup2

I have a relative named Bella.

I think it's a beautiful name, but like someone said, a lot of pressure for someone who lives in an Italian or Spanish speaking country.

My relative lives in Latin America. "Bella" means more than "pretty". It means Beautiful. My poor relative was teased a lot as a child. Kids would tease her telling her "Why is your name Bella? You sure are ugly!" and other things like that.:guilty: It must have been so hurtful!

But if she's going to live among mostly English-speaking people, I don't see a problem!

I knew a gal that was pregnant with girl/boy twins that she named Bella and Baue (I think that's how she spelled it pronounced "bow"). Just thought I'd put that out there in case you get a bonus baby!

MY DD is named Bella.

Her formal name is Isabella Noelle.

Sure, why not. Arabella is also another option as a formal name for the nickname Bella.

I love both Bella and Isabella. I would probably give her "Isabella" for her formal name, and call her Bella. :thumbsup2

I adored my great Aunt Bella. She was my grandmother's sister and one of the finest people that I've ever known.
