DH and I have our boy's name picked out (Joseph) and had a girl's name (Gianna) but the girl's name we choose was for the daughter we will be adopting. Since that is temporarily on hold, I haven't decided yet if we will use that name or save that... I really need to think about it. The other name we like but that has become way too popular is Isabella, although we would call her Bella, which got me to thinking. We LOVE Bella even more but haven't heard it as a formal name. Do you think we could pull it off?

ETA: Bella actually flows better with our last name.

There is a Bella in my DD's Kindermusic class. That is her legal name I believe. I think it's a cute nickname, but honestly I would use the legal name Isabella and just call her Bella. My DD has a cute nickname that is the only name we've ever called her. She also has a "professional" legal name. Frankly, I wanted her name to look professional on a resume someday. Bella is cute, but Isabella sounds more professional, KWIM? I'd have the best of both worlds by legally naming her Isabella and just always calling her Bella.

I once knew a girl named belladonna and we all just called her bella.

Why not?

A friend of mine named her sone "Jake" - not Jacob. I also know someone who named her daughter Jeni - not Jennifer. In fact, she now wishes she would have named her Jen because everyone shortens Jeni anyway.

I think you can name your daughter any name you like. :)

I have an Isabel. (she is 9 just ahead of the popular curve on her name) When I hear Bella I think Bella Abzug(I am from NY)
I think it is a cute name though. And Yes I knew a woman whose name was Bella. So you could pull it off no problem.
(can I throw another one in there with your adorable names..Sophie?)
I just love Gianna!

Bella Abzug was a famous politician and activist.

I guess I should add my son's don't have very common names either sooooo what do I know....lol

Also...people weren't too sure about my oldest sons name but now eVERYONE loves the name, including him since noone in is school has it!

There's a line in King Ralph where they are playing scrabble. The female lead says "That's not a word!" King Ralph says, "We're using the King's English, right? I'm the king, if I use it, it's a word!"

If that's what you name her, it's a name! :)

Sophie is on our short list as well... great minds think alike :teeth: .

My DD's great grandmother's name is Bella - not a nickname.

Bella is a good name but otherwise there is Arabella or maybe Annabella??

Claire ;)

I'm named after a Bella so I hope it's a real name, LOL. I also worked with a Bella at my last job.

Isn't Bella also Joe Morelli's grandmother's name? (for the Stephanie Plum fans)

It's most definitely a name. We almost named our oldest DD(10), Bella, but decided on Mia Isabella instead. I think Bella is a lovely name.

Bella is a name. We, too, almost named our youngest DD that. We went with Annabella instead. We often times call her Bella....My baby Bella:cloud9:
