Is beginning of May a good time?

We went the 1st week of May in 2009 and it was hot (temps between 90 and 97), no rain, and crowds were low. This trip, the temps were better 80's and 90's but like others mentioned there was a thunderstorm one evening (got stuck in Epcot store for 1 1/2 hours) and rained another day. We felt the crowds were higher this trip then the trip in 2009 but that may be the new normal. It was manageable but definitely noticeable. Had another friend that was there that same week, and goes to Disney at other times of the year, and they thought it was more crowded and weren't planning on going back the beginning of May again.

Thanks for all of the responses, everyone! I'm from Canada and we don't have Memorial Day, but I believe in 2017 it will be May 29th, right? We'll be flying out the 27th, so I'm hoping Americans like to take their holiday STARTING on Memorial Day and not ending on it

I like May. Yes, it can be very hot, but nothing like July-Sept. And we like the hot for swimming and Typhoon Lagoon. This year it was hot for half our trip and lovely (perfect) for half (first week of May). I would say crowd was moderate. We used to go in January or early February and liked this trip because things weren't closed and we could enjoy the water park and pools at the hotel more.

We just got back (May 9-16) and it was awesome! Hot, but not humid. Totally manageable crowds in the parks...was glad to have FP+ for 7D, BTMRR, Test Track, the Safari and Everest, but didn't really matter for anything else. Worst crowds were actually in Disney Springs Friday night.
