Wow thanks for all the tips. This is really helpful, babies r us suggests you buy everything and then some lol.
I sent out my invites and my BF actually texted me to review my registry with me as she has a 5 month old. One thing I took into account is I do have back issues and therefore too much bending may not work post delivery so I picked out a $40 bathtub as my apt kitchen sink is tiny but the tub is too low to use daily and I do plan on getting a changing table from my SIL along with crib, so I got a nice pad with a few covers (since I'm in an apt its easier to walk into that room for a changing as it is literally in the middle of our floorplan than it is to set up in a makeshift area in another room). Those are things I can't really eliminate as I don't see alternatives.
I had no swings or rockers so I added a fisher price rock & play that folds as she said its easier than a pack and play for travel to families house when the baby is small. I could have sworn I have seen these for sale in a facebook group I joined so I will keep the registry one NIB just in case I can score one used for cheap. She has a mamaroo rocker but did admit it only calmed the baby sometimes, so for the money its not a great investment from what she says. I also bought a Halo bassinet as I plan on breastfeeding so this will be helpful the first few months (target had the $40 giftcard back with a $200 baby purchase and this was included). Used ones don't go that cheap and since its so much fabric I just feel better getting a fresh one.
The other thing I have not gone crazy on is bottles. Some friends suggested I buy a few dozen, various nipples for them, a dryer, a sanitizer, and even bottle warmer. Since I plan on breastfeeding I am going to get that as needed and start with the basics. I have an
amazon locker next to my apt and we have giftcards still on hand from our wedding so I will just click and ship when the need for more bottle gear arises. My BF is only bottle feeding and even she admitted she hasn't used certain items she got for that area, she ended up returning items for giftcards to put towards formula.
I declined a diaper raffle and instead am doing a small item raffle (pacifiers, toys, lotions etc) as I put plenty of these things on my registry and have no room for diapers to store for months (plus we have sensitive skin in my family so I am facing the possibility of certain brands being eliminated due to rashes). I would love to cloth diaper but w/o a washer/dryer I can't practically do that.
The one thing I need to still pick out that is essential is a stroller/carseat combo. This I need to invest in since I'm on the third floor of our building and I do know I need covers since the baby is due in January in the heart of winter. I keep seeing used ones for sale but since my mother told me she is giving me cash to use as I please I want top of the line for this item.
I also am being given a diaper genie, wipe warmer, and monitors by family that they already had, so those are extras but free so I will take them. I had a code and credit on Thredup so I scored a few last maternity clothing items and bought some basic baby clothing items for cheap to start to build a wardrobe (I found some winter jumpsuit/fleece outfits for about 1/5 of what they sell for new so I thought it was a good investment). Since I will be a SAHM I loaded the registry with onesies and sweat pants as those cute outfits will rarely be used. In fact I figured the baby will just need socks for the first few months.
