is baby crib bedding a waste?

Some people take the quilt or bedspread from the set and hang it on the wall as decoration.

We loved the crib bedding set but there's a catch there- our crib converted to a toddler bed and my kids are really short. As in my 5 and 7 year olds are still comfortably sleeping on crib mattresses. (great because they share a small room...) The first crib bedding set we got was when my older son (middle child) was around 2. The skirt, sheet and comforter matching look nice and he was old enough I didn't feel trashy buying it from goodwill for like $10.
If your kids aren't freakishly short like mine, or you will be excited to move them to a big mattress it's probably a waste of money.

The item I couldn't have made it through without is a baby carrier. Ergo, Moby, Boba, whatever the brand I used a wrap until they got heavy, then converted to an Ergo. My kids are cuddly and never wanted to be set down and this was how I didn't go insane from not being able to use my hands for 5 years straight.

Wow thanks for all the tips. This is really helpful, babies r us suggests you buy everything and then some lol.

I sent out my invites and my BF actually texted me to review my registry with me as she has a 5 month old. One thing I took into account is I do have back issues and therefore too much bending may not work post delivery so I picked out a $40 bathtub as my apt kitchen sink is tiny but the tub is too low to use daily and I do plan on getting a changing table from my SIL along with crib, so I got a nice pad with a few covers (since I'm in an apt its easier to walk into that room for a changing as it is literally in the middle of our floorplan than it is to set up in a makeshift area in another room). Those are things I can't really eliminate as I don't see alternatives.

I had no swings or rockers so I added a fisher price rock & play that folds as she said its easier than a pack and play for travel to families house when the baby is small. I could have sworn I have seen these for sale in a facebook group I joined so I will keep the registry one NIB just in case I can score one used for cheap. She has a mamaroo rocker but did admit it only calmed the baby sometimes, so for the money its not a great investment from what she says. I also bought a Halo bassinet as I plan on breastfeeding so this will be helpful the first few months (target had the $40 giftcard back with a $200 baby purchase and this was included). Used ones don't go that cheap and since its so much fabric I just feel better getting a fresh one.

The other thing I have not gone crazy on is bottles. Some friends suggested I buy a few dozen, various nipples for them, a dryer, a sanitizer, and even bottle warmer. Since I plan on breastfeeding I am going to get that as needed and start with the basics. I have an amazon locker next to my apt and we have giftcards still on hand from our wedding so I will just click and ship when the need for more bottle gear arises. My BF is only bottle feeding and even she admitted she hasn't used certain items she got for that area, she ended up returning items for giftcards to put towards formula.

I declined a diaper raffle and instead am doing a small item raffle (pacifiers, toys, lotions etc) as I put plenty of these things on my registry and have no room for diapers to store for months (plus we have sensitive skin in my family so I am facing the possibility of certain brands being eliminated due to rashes). I would love to cloth diaper but w/o a washer/dryer I can't practically do that.

The one thing I need to still pick out that is essential is a stroller/carseat combo. This I need to invest in since I'm on the third floor of our building and I do know I need covers since the baby is due in January in the heart of winter. I keep seeing used ones for sale but since my mother told me she is giving me cash to use as I please I want top of the line for this item.

I also am being given a diaper genie, wipe warmer, and monitors by family that they already had, so those are extras but free so I will take them. I had a code and credit on Thredup so I scored a few last maternity clothing items and bought some basic baby clothing items for cheap to start to build a wardrobe (I found some winter jumpsuit/fleece outfits for about 1/5 of what they sell for new so I thought it was a good investment). Since I will be a SAHM I loaded the registry with onesies and sweat pants as those cute outfits will rarely be used. In fact I figured the baby will just need socks for the first few months.

Instead of a big bulky car seat combo, get a snap and go, and then you can get a quality stroller that will be much nicer than the combo stroller. They're not in the bucket that long.

A note about registries... I will never again buy a baby gift that is not on the registry. My daughter spent a lot of time carefully considering exactly what she wanted and needed... and very few people actually picked items on the registry. She had a shower by our family and one by her husband's family. Both sides were guilty of getting what they liked or they thought she needed. I'm grateful they got her gifts, but wish they hadn't wasted their money buying something she didn't want and then she had to spend her money to buy the things she really needed.

This times a million.

We got the Key Fit Caddy instead if the Snap N Go Brand because I liked it better but either way, best stroller for the beginning by far and then we used our jogger after the infant cars eat was outgrown (I was a little sad to see it go).

My MIL REFUSES to shop from a registry. I think registries are the best thing since sliced bread. Saves everyone time

I would register for several sleep sacks, 2 to 3 in each size. At least 3 fitted crib sheets, with out having a washer or dryer you might want to opt for more. I use my receiving blankets for over my shoulder when burping and catching all that wonderful baby drool...

I used my pack-n-play all the time... As a matter of fact I have one set up at my house now for my DGS... If you travel a lot this is a wonderful tool, or visit family/friends for the day its nice to have your own spot to lay your baby down for their nap.

2 different size diaper bags, quick trip and an all day one.

Look at your life style to help make other decisions on what you really need.

Congrat's on the new little one...pixiedust:pixiedust:
