Is anyone really excited about Avatar Land?

I've never seen the movie, don't plan to. I don't care about the theme of the new land, as long as some decent rides come along with it!!

The fan base for Avatar is much bigger than for Cars, and Cars Land is a huge hit at DLR. The fan base is not a problem. The most important thing is execution and the quality of the attractions. I don't know the budget of this new land, but considering how long they are taking to build it, we can at least be cautiously optimistic.

Yes, I'm very excited. Opening in two years!

By contrast, I have been a HUGE Harry Potter fan since I was 15 (nearly 30 now!), and I have no interest in visiting the WWOHP. I'm too emotionally invested in what those places look like in my head (I didn't enjoy the films so much as a result), and I have no interest in walking around somewhere that looks wrong!

This is off topic, but I would urge you to go to WWOHP. As a Potter fan, you are really missing something. And no, it doesn't look wrong at all.

Doesn't look wrong for you. The films looked nothing like how I imagine the locations, so for me, they look wrong. The photos I've seen of WWOHP are all like the films, so for me, they don't look right. I'm happier with the version I've imagined for myself for half my life!

Disneys niche is cartoon movies, happy endings, and princesses. They need to stop trying to compete with Universal and stick to what they know. Look at the new Fantasy land, years after opening its still next to impossible to ride or eat there.

Give me some Princess and the Frog on a good ole swampy boat ride.
Give me some Tarzan or Jungle boy.
Give me some Bambi.
For God sakes, they could make a mint on Ichabod if they'd do something with him and a year round Halloween theme.
How about an updated 20,000 leagues under the sea? How cool would that be?

Point is, Star Wars carrys its own weight. Disney carries its own weight with its animated films and Princesses. It just needs to build on that. Yeah, as a mom of 2 boys Im sick of Princesses, but secretly do enjoy them.

Not everyone may have enjoyed the movie, but I think most would agree that the world of Pandora was pretty cool. If Disney can truly bring the magic of that world to life, it will be a big hit.

Don't forget that Avatar Land is supposed to incorporate things we have yet to see from the unreleased sequels Avatar 2, 3, and 4.

I have never been excited about Avatarland. The movie was ok, but not worthy of a themepark IMO. I also don't think it fits at AK. I get the whole conservation theme, but I think since it is movie based it should be at DHS. With that being said, I'm sure it will be amazing because Joe Rhode is involved.

I totally agree on this point. I think that was a concern for my teens as well. Not that it matters because it's already being built. The evening hours sound like a great idea though.

I still don't understand why Disney chose to build a themed area after the movie Avatar. Didn't they have enough of their own IP to use. I didn't like Avatar, but I'm hoping the imagineers were given enough money to make the new land as spectacular as Carsland.

Once upon a time, if you told me that they were building a ride based on Song of the South, I would have been "meh!" The Peter Pan movie borders on 'unwatchably bad' and I never would have been excited about a ride based solely on the quality of that movie. So this argument that the movie wasn't good enough to support park treatment has already been disproved over and over again. I guess I'll never really understand the negative reaction here to the movie. Lots of Disney fans seem to despise the movie and its message (but love Pocahontas). Is it because the movie didn't start with a castle in the opening credits? Somebody liked the movie. It could only have made that much money through repeat business.

Not at all. I have zero interest in Avatar and think its a terrible idea. I keep hoping they come to their senses and call it off. But once Disney starts with some terrible idea it keeps going regardless of how bad it is (Luigi's racers I'm talking about you).

Seems like a bad idea to me as well. I liked the movie for the visual experience, but the story line doesn't warrant a whole land to me. Maybe one ride.

As far as "warranting a whole land", if Cars warranted one, wouldn't a movie with a higher Rotten Tomatoes score and a significantly higher worldwide box office with stunning visuals also warrant one? In fact, if one were to make a list of all the movie franchises in history that warranted a "land", Avatar would have to be in the top 10. Probably top 5.

I am a huge scifi/fantasy geek but I thought that Avatar was just an ok movie, but I am looking forward to the opening of Avatar Land. I can see how their Tree of Life and the world of Pandora would be visually stunning and tie in well with rest of AK if done well. I'm just hoping my expectations aren't too high and I'll be disappointed. That's if I ever get to see it... Taking forever to build it.
