Is anyone really excited about Avatar Land?

I know it takes time and planning for a new area, but why Avatar? The movie was good, but not trilogy good like other movies that they could use for a theme. Just seems odd to me that by the time it opens there will be lots of people who never heard/saw the movie.

I love AK so I'm remaining optimistic, never saw the movie, don't really care to but maybe Avatarland will inspire me to watch it.
I am curious about the rivers of light or whatever the show is called.
I'll be happy when the walls come down either way

The conspiracy theorist in me has never believed that Avatarland is real and that it is a cover for something better. I guess that tells you what I think about the idea. :D

LOL, I like your thinking! :rotfl2:

My teens who have seen the movie (they call it "blue people") say that they don't see why WDW would focus a whole area of a park on something where the young kids can't even watch the movie on which it's based. They would rather see something more appropriate for the Disney guest - their words not mine.

* sigh * the movie is so much more than "blue people riding around on dinosaurs." It is an allegory. The "blue people" are a peaceful alien race whose habitat is being destroyed by humans that are mining for elements to use on Earth.

Admittedly, I have not seen the artists' renderings for Avatarland, and I am not sure the route Disney plans to take with the area. There are many choices. Conservation, imperialism, etc. Lots of their choices could absolutely match the theming of Animal Kingdom, right down to the "Tree of Life" from the movie. The movie is visually stunning, and I expect anything Disney would theme around it will be as well.

I will be very happy when it opens. I look forward to the new night options at Animal Kingdom that it is said to bring along with it's opening. And for those of you that don't care or won't partake, that's all good with me; shorter lines for the rest of us!

Avatar 2 is scheduled to come out at Christmas of 2017. When is Avatarland supposed to open?

It is obvious that they wanted to expand both the physical park and the number of hours it could serve guests. However, Avatar seems like a strange fit. Africa, Asia, Pandora...wait Pandora isn't a real place. Dino land isn't a real place either, but at least dinosaurs once walked the Earth. I agree with the post that said they should have added South America, or one of the other continents. The boat ride could have been on the Amazon and they could still have used the Banshee ride as an E ticket, or come up with something else. The could have added a volcano or dozens of other cool things from South America and it would have also been very easy to theme a restaurant or 2.

That is water under the bridge though and they are committed to adding Avatar land at this point. Having been in the park when it is dark, I can say that most of the areas do not offer much after the daylight is gone. Avatar land with its luminescence is likely designed to be as much a night spot as a day one. There also probably won't be as many live animals to disturb in Avatar land which may have factored into the decision.

I didn't watch the movie when is was released, but recently purchased a copy just because I figured it must be good if Disney invested a whole land in it. Others will likely do the same. While a bit weak in story line, the original movie was technologically ground breaking. Now more than 5 years later, I expect the second to be stunning as well.

Do I think Avatar was a great choice? No. Am I excited to see it completed? Yes.

I saw the movie and enjoyed it but don't feel the same way about it that I do the Harry Potter movies and books. Still it should be fun if they have some good rides etc. AK is our favorite Disney park so if it add to the experience then I'm sure we will enjoy it. We are planning to do our next Orlando trip mid August to the beginning of Sept. in 2017 so I hope it will be open by than! If it is well watch the movie before we come as our 3 DD have not seen it and I'm sure they would enjoy it.

I've never even seen the movie, but the artist images of what they'd like to do really got me excited. So I'll definitely be excited to see it. Though as others have said, I would've liked other stuff done first, but can't change that now.

Meh not really. I have no doubt it will be visually nice, but I just can't get exicted for it. Maybe at D23 they will finally give us more details about it, but right now we really don't know much. Sounds like a Soarin type ride and a boat ride. I don't care for Soarin, hopefully the boat ride will be done well. That is one ride I think that can be great, make it about 8 minutes long and I will like it.

When the announcement was first made, I hated it. Now I am just indifferent to it.

I haven't seen the movie and may never bother. It just didn't appeal to me. As a land, though, at least based on the concept art and few details that have come out, I think it has tons of potential and I'm excited to see what they come up with.

I'm sure it will be great when it opens, but I agree with the earlier posters that a South American area focused on the Amazon would have been a better fit.

Absolutely excited! I've never seen the movie, but I don't think you have to like the movie to appreciate the attraction and I expect big things from Disney on this one!

I don't like Star Wars...yes, we do exist...;), but when and if they ever get a Star Wars land I bet I love the attraction.

While others have mentioned the ecological theme, Avatar land also fits into Animal Kingdom as a representation of the realm of myth and imagination (a nod to the original concept of the Beastly Kingdom). Plus, it represents the future (as Dino land represents the past, and Africa and Asia represent the present). Avatar land stands for all worlds yet undiscovered and unexplored.

The movie gave me a killer migraine, but I think the land fits perfectly into the themIng of Animal Kingdom, and I am definitely very excited about it.
