Is anyone really excited about Avatar Land?

We used to go to WDW more often, but we have lost some interest as our kids get older. The new princess stuff doesn't draw us there or Carsland. I would not book a trip to WDW bc of Avatarland either. I would book a trip for Star Wars Land though!
After this next trip, we probably won't go back for 5-6 yrs. When we do go will we check out Avatarland? Sure. BUT Avatarland will not get us there earlier, but Star Wars Land would.
We did book a trip to USO specifically for WWOHP like many others and I don't think Avatar would have to same draw.

The only thing Avatarland that will do a thing for me is it will hopefully draw other people into that section so that I have a smaller crowd to deal with as I navigate my favorite park.

Sure. You already know you won't like it, so why even try it? Always good to keep an open mind...

And I'm not saying I'd never walk thru. But I'll love that others may flock there.

You better hope it's a flop and that no one is interested. The more people that go to AK to see the new land the more crowded AK will be period.

I'm excited about "Anything" land at Disney.....as long as it's new, I'm there. :thumbsup2

I'll go along with that point of view. I'm not excited over Avatar in particular, but anything new that Disney spends a lot of time and effort on usually piques my interest...except when they close a beloved attraction to make something new (Snow White, maelstrom, world of Motion)

I think Avatar land will be a great visual experience and I will check it out, I would not book a special trip to just see it. To me this is the key to whole Avatar debate. Disney went with the whole Avatar thing as a response to Universal and Harry Potter. Like some people have said Avatar does not have the same following as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and others period. Box office receipts alone do not prove that Avatar has a huge following. This to me is where Disney is going to have some issues –

From Wikipedia

When a film is highly exploitable as a commercial property, its ancillary revenues can dwarf its income from direct film sales.[5] The Lion King earned over $2 billion in box-office and home video sales,[6] but this pales in comparison to the $6 billion earned at box offices around the world by the stage adaptation.[7] Merchandising can be extremely lucrative too: The Lion King also sold $3 billion of merchandise,[8] while Pixar's Cars—which earned $462 million in theatrical revenues and was only a modest hit by comparison to other Pixar films[9]—generated global merchandise sales of over $8 billion in the five years after its 2006 release.[10][11] Pixar also had another huge hit with Toy Story 3, which generated almost $10 billion in merchandise retail sales in addition to the $1 billion it earned at the box office.[12]

How much did Avatar Merchandise make from the movie? Are people going to buy a ton of stuff from Avatar land? Not only has Harry Potter drawn people to Universal parks, it sells a ton of merchandise. I was just there a few weeks ago and spent a lot money on Harry Potter stuff. I live about 10 mins away from Disneyland and we took a trip to Orlando because my wife loves Harry Potter and now my daughter is really getting into it. Just to show how big Harry Potter really is. My daughter is even in a Harry Potter summer school reading program. I would bet there are other schools that offer something similar out there but I doubt there are too many Avatar summer school programs.

We go every year. Avatar land withstanding. It's the world, the package, the magic that draws us.

Same here, it's the whole package that we go for every year. Anything that adds to that is good by me. Actually I thought the movie was great and the new ones will be too. Lots of possibilities with all the strange flora and fauna in the movie!

Adding to this . . . . . If the new land were actually going to be "Avatar", I would probably not be particularly interested. But "Pandora", on the other hand, has the opportunity to be really cool. And that's what they're doing. And given how word is that they are going all out on this development, I'm very much looking forward to something that will be enjoyable.
Ultimately its success will be determined by how good the final development is, not by how many guests like the movie that inspired it.
(Regarding those who say "when I go to DAK I won't be going to Avatar" - I'm pretty sure when the time comes, they'll be visiting the area at least once, and likely regularly after that.)

With lots of great jewelry shopping opportunities.

By itself, it might fall short, but this is only one of many huge updates announced since HP opened. This is only a part of the response. I am glad that US put pressure on Disney and excited about the resulting plans.

I won't specifically plan a trip to Orlando for Avatar (like we did with the WWoHP and Diagon Alley), but when we do go back, I'm interested to see what they'll do. I wasn't a fan of the movie, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy the ride/experience!

Absolutely. I can't wait. I couldn't care less about the movie, but I think it's going to be drop-dead, stunningly gorgeous and insanely awesome.

Joe Rohde is in charge... 'nuff said.
