Is anyone on the Dream right now? How did a girl fall overboard?

If that is true that is really stupid.

Reading the reddit thread it does look like the boat was moving. Life preservers were thrown over and they had to slow and turn around. They are lucky the water was calm and there was daylight.

IF it’s true it’s not just stupid it’s criminal. If DCL can verify that’s indeed what happened, that family is done cruising with them

So, someone on that reddit thread said that it wasn't her dad that jumped in after her. I know that reddit is about as reliable as a Disney bus driver, but it would explain why she isn't sitting next to him.

I watched the video of the entire rescue and it looks like she sat with that cast member the whole time?

So I found another shot of the boat and the dad looks exhausted and the crew member is holding the girl for safety.. the boat is odd in that I think somebody had to hold her in place.. at that point they have no lifejackets on. so that explains why the girls is being held by the crew member.

I’m pretty sure someone was reviewing video on the ship while the rescue boat was being lowered and getting to them. If the report from the news (supposedly) above is that the father put her on the rail, they would essentially act as CPS and protect the child.

I live in Arizona it was 113 yesterday. A family, its usually tourists that do this, took their 6 and 9 year old hiking in the middle of the the day even though the hiking trail was closed due to extreme heat. They had to be rescued by a rescue team because of heat exhaustion. Last year a 10 year old died different family same story. It seems like there is one of these stories every summer.

People are really dumb. I don't to walk from my car to the inside of store during the middle of day. I can't imagine why they think taking a child on a hike when it's 113 out is okay. A parent putting a child on a rail, if that's what happened, would not surprise me, but like other poster said we really don't know what happened.

I’ve been thinking about this story all afternoon and I’m still mind-boggling how the heck that child survived.

As a teen, I’ve jumped from a 10 m platform. I went feet first and if you didn’t know what you’re doing that impact could really hurt you. I recall the first time I did it. I felt like my hair was being ripped off my head. And another thought that’s been giving me chills all day is that once you hit the water you were underwater for a seemingly never-ending amount of time. That was something you had to mentally prepare for, but you were in a pool and you knew you would come back up.

Imagine this little girl falling backwards, probably not hitting the water with her legs closed, toes, pointed being shocked and being under underwater a few seconds longer than she’s ever experienced in life and not prepared for.. In dark waters. I’m just honestly surprised she came back up. I just don’t get it how????

How the heck did this kid survive? It just doesn’t make sense.

If the man was her dad, why is she hugging a cast member instead of him? If it was me, I’d want comfort from a parent in that situation rather than a random stranger.

I work in healthcare...in crazy scenarios (and this qualifies), people often do not behave in ways that make any sense to the general population. Adrenaline, terror, exhaustion, and likely some injuries/pain are at play here. If the adult male is her father, they are sitting close enough to each other in the boat that they could be right next to each other, etc. The female crew member may be stabilizing an injury, but it's just too difficult to say based on the one image. Both look completely exhausted and in need of medical treatment to me. There is just such a remote chance that this kid fell from that height completely uninjured; there is almost certainly something going on here. They are both lucky to be alive. The Disney Dream crew is to be commended for their quick response.

Even if a buoy doesn't reach the person, it marks the spot, so throw it anyway.

I read from people who witnessed it they did toss stuff over to mark the spot. The issue is the dad or male person had to hold the kid and stay afloat so couldn’t waste energy getting to the ring.

I haven't been on the Dream since 2011, but if I remember correctly, deck 4 is much like the Wonder deck 4? It seems like it would take a HUGE effort to get over the railing. I can't even imagine putting a kid up there for a selfie (one of the rumors). I just cannot picture this happening. I keep looking for updates on what the heck happened.

First hand reports on reddit stated there were many life rings thrown.

according to ABC News Live with Linsey Davis dad is who jumped in the water. Disney thanked the crew for their great service.

No details about what happened that led to the daughter being in the water or context for the dad. Unsure if David Muir covered it tonight as well.

Though it may be obvious for many, keep in mind ABC is owned by Disney.

Absolutely. I've sailed the Dream class ships several times and it's impossible to just trip and fall overboard. Either a parent put her on top of the railing or the girl climbed up (harder to imagine as it's hard to climb plexiglass) while poorly supervised.

Whatever happened, it was not Disney's fault unless a gate was left open or something like that, and we know how unlikely that is for DCL. Compare that to the likelihood of a random parent acting stupid.

We sailed the Wonder to Alaska recently and had to talk to some parents whose child was repeatedly throwing ice overboard into the Alaskan fjord. The father thought it was no big deal to do that because it was just ice. Not in the same league as this safety issue, but it's just one example of how stupid and entitled some parents can be.

So many times newbie cruisers say to me, I'm scared my kids will go overboard, so I don't cruise and I always say, unless you are drunk or climbing on furniture, or trying to go overboard, you are not going to go overboard. I am not saying the father/man put her on the railing, but you don't just "oops" and fall overboard, especially when this child was probably not much higher than the railing. But now, all those people will say, see, it CAN happen.

I will say, I hope she (and the man) are okay. That is a long way to fall and must have been so terrifying. I feel so bad for that child.

I just watched a video of - walk around of deck 4. Someone on Reddit- which isn't reliable- said she fell through one of the port holes there. I watched the video and those do seem to be a bit less protected than the railings. Still would have probably needed to have been lifted up by the adult- but I could see that happening. I am sure Disney legal is all over it...

I was wondering the same thing. I am shocked she is being hugged by a crew member but then I was thinking the dad might be in shock or a crew member checking. Perhaps his arms were limp after treading water for that long.

I was shocked in the photo she still has her sandals on after falling into the water and treading water for 20 minutes. Reminds me of tornado stories where peoples clothes are essentially blown off but they still have on their shoes.
