Is anyone else starting to get delirious with all this planning??

I consider myself a fairly organized person. I've got 3 kids, I work full time, I run 2 different girl scout troops & am very active in my children's school. I enjoy planning ahead so I can be prepared (it's the girl scout in me) but I am literally becoming delirious over this trip. I'm a first timer and I had no idea when I booked my trip back in Feb just how much would be involved. I know in the long run that it will all pay off but gee whiz, it's been tough!

I've had a reminder set on my phone to book my fast passes at midnight since oh, I don't know MARCH.. well I just started a second job (which I only got bc of this trip) and I got home way later than expected and completely slept through my alarm at midnight. I woke up in a panic and by the time I logged in I was unable to get the Ana and Elsa fast passes that I really wanted. Womp, womp.. :sad2:

We're telling our kids in another few weeks and I'm telling you right now.. if they don't give me the excited over the top reaction that I have been dying to see I think I'm going to lose it! Haha. I am literally killing myself to pay for this trip and trying to do everything I can to ensure that we have a good time. They better appreciate it!

OK, end of rant :)

I'm not but I do remember it all too well. It got to the point where my house was a mess and I felt like I wasn't spending time with the kids because I spent what felt like every waking minute planning out the trip! The trip did go very well and I'm glad I got that first trip out of the way because now I feel like at least I know the layout of the parks which will definitely help for future trip planning...plus I have been slowly planning our next trip since we got home from our last one ;)

Don't set yourself up for disappointment with the surprise though, some kids have that over the top jumping and screaming and oh-so-excited reaction and some kids don't. My kids were super happy I could tell but I'm not sure they really believed us at first ;) Just know that they WILL absolutely love the trip itself!

Haha count me in. Even when I think I am done I have been tweaking FP's and agenda lol

This is probably going to come out wrong, but over obsessing about trips is going to take a ton of the fun out of it.

Planning things to the minute just gets overbearing and there's no spontaneity.

I've got twin 2 1/2 year olds. We haven't bought our tickets or even thought about FP+. We just don't care. Let the kids lead the way!

Lol, I disagree for the most part because I am also a planner (and former Girl Scout, lol) and planning it was SO much fun for me!!! I do agree with you about not over obsessing, but I like having a plan. A lot. Lol.

But I definitely allowed a plan that had a lot of wiggle room, and plenty of things changed the last minute - which was fine. I felt we were much better able to use our time wisely and still let dd3 lead the way once we had an inkling of what it was like. Now I don't plan nearly as much, but I felt it was necessary for that first trip to learn everything - that way it's much easier to come up with alternatives when you know what's available.

I can't imagine trying to plan a first trip nowadays.

Back in the day, when EPCOT was new, it seemed like there was no way we could get MK and EPCOT into a four day trip! I've been so many times now, and with a timeshare, it's kid of like...well, if we don't get to it this time, we'll get to it next time!

We feel the same way about a lot of our trips. If we miss something, it just means we HAVE to come back! :)

I think it's all about balance. Not over planning and obsessing to where it consumes your every thought...but also planning enough so that you have an idea of what the layout of parks look like, FPs secured, and a general idea of each of your days there.

There were a few months that I constantly thought about our upcoming trip. Then I became busier with my new job & literally had no time to think about it. Our trip is coming up next month but it feels good not to obsess anymore, and I still planned everything I needed to. Just packing and grocery shopping for the trip, and that's it!

No, I definitely am not over planning. I am going to try not to even use the fast passes that we got except for the parade & toy story mania. I do wang my kids to lead. But at the same time this may be our only trip so I wanted to make sure that we got to see/do certain things. I just did t know there were all these steps. I thought picking my dates & hotel were going to be the hardest part. I had no idea the dining had to be made at 180 days & fast passed at 60 etc. And I didn't know that Disney is an ever changing environment with ride closures, new rides, special events etc. So I have been reading & following basically everything Disney related so that I know what the realistic expectations are while we're there. I just never knew or expected any of this do it's slightly overwhelming. But like I said, it will all be worth it. Our kids have been begging to go but we keep saying it's too expensive (which it totally is!!) so I know they will be so excited just to be going that everything else will be like a bonus

We may not use the all our fp either. Just maybe keep the ones that have a long wait line. I started thinking about it more this week and I don't want to run around.
