Is an egg a day, ok?

Egg is one of my favorite breakfast. I'm having omellete, fried egg, and boiled egg in every breakfast for the past 2 years. Someone told me recently that eggs are high in cholesterol, so I did a cholesterol test and everything appeared normal. I'm still not 100% sure if I should continue with my egg a day so I'm just wondering if anyone here has any advice regarding this?

It's totally fine!! Been doing the same, and so does my doctor!! :thumbsup2

I kind of wonder this too. You would think an egg yolk is Satan's ingredient. But eggs are packed with good stuff too. I can't get into the Egg Beaters and I'm not okay with just the whites. I eat extremely well otherwise, so I'm not gonna stress over a little bitty egg yolk.

I have been told that eating eggs regularly along with a low-saturated fat diet did not negatively affect LDL-cholesterol, since it's saturated fat, and not cholesterol that impacts blood cholesterol levels. Which is good, because I do love a "fried"-egg on a wrap with mustard in the morning! :lovestruc

I have heard it is fine. Eggs are great for you.

Just don't fry them up with bacon everyday!

Eggs, when cooked without a lot of extra fat, are a very well balanced choice. They are low in calories and saturated fats, but high in protein.

Don't you remember those commercials from way back ( or maybe they were actual shows ) talking about how bad eggs were for you?? The cholesterol debate has been going on for decades!

Like someone else posted, without all the fat, grease, bacon, sausage, scrapple and other crappy stuff that is usually served with them, they are very nutritious.

One egg a day is fine. Two however, may take you out early. :rotfl:

I think some people have high cholesterol naturally and need medication no matter what they eat. My Father ate 2 eggs, usually fried, almost every morning - never had a cholesterol problem and lived to be 85.

Poor eggs. They got such a bum rap.

As someone who has been intimately involved with cholesterol for a very long time, I have seen the normal values drop from 325 mg/dl to the now suggested "under 200". Ugh. I pity the poor doctor who some day will see my chol over 215 (it is now around 210 but a very high HDL, so great risk factor) and suggest drugs. I think the cholesterol hype is a conspiracy to sell cholesterol lowering drugs (some which cause more medical problems that high cholesterol!).

Before you flame me, I am somewhat serious and somewhat kidding. Not sure which.

I eat about 6 eggs a week, some are egg beaters style and you can't tell. I also use egg whites with spinich or mushrooms etc..

Not true. Bacon is not also not nearly as bad as it has been made out to be.

One of the best rounded breakfasts you can eat?

Egg
Bacon or Canadian Bacon/Ham
A little lower-fat cheese
On a whole grain or wheat English muffin (check for a high fiber content, most packaged ones do not)

Everything you need for long-term energy - protein, fiber, a little fat (yes, our bodies need some fat and not all fat is bad) - and they taste great, too.

Sound familiar?

Yep. It is basically an Egg McMuffin, which is one of the best all-around fast food breakfast items available. Pair it with the fruit and yogurt parfait. Tasty and pretty healthy breakfast that will keep you going for quite a while and is not packed with tons of bad sugar (like pancakes, waffles, french toast covered in syrup will do if eaten all by themselves).

there are 2 of us in my house and we go through about 2 to 2 1/2 dozen a week.

Us too, Paula! My husband and I have been low carbing it since January, and we eat eggs like crazy. My DH eats 2 or 3 scrambled eggs every day for breakfast, and I ezt them every weekend for breakfast and hard boiled once or twice a week for lunch. So far, no negative health signs for us.

I am diabetic and my endocronoligst put me on a no carb diet, no bread, pasta, potatoes , no oatmeal or ceral. Anyway I have been eating 3 eggs a day, plus a small portion of fruit for breakfast for the past almost year and my cholosteral and triglicyrids(sp?) are the best that they ever been. Also I walk every day or almost everyday for at least 1/2 hour. Plus on my diet I did lose 35 pounds so I am sure that has helped as well.

If it were I'd be DEAD! :scared1: I eat a high protein breakfast every morning because sugar and carbs drag me down to early. My cholesterol has always between 75 and 100 since I was 31.:thumbsup2

Fesh eggs from the allotment and no they are not getting any names as these are good meat birds as well as egg layers.

My understanding (from a recent Dr. Oz episode) is that the yolk is very nutrient-rich and it makes more sense to eat the whole egg if you are going to at all.

My favorite breakfast (and sometimes lunch or dinner): 1 egg scrambled, a serving size amount (1/2 cup I think) of Hash Brown O'Brien sauted in some olive oil with Adobo, and three Swift Premium Brown and Serve Turkey sausages! YUM!!!

My DS11 would eat eggs every day at every meal. He loves them!! I just taught him how to cook his own fried egg so I don't have to do it for him! He loves his "dippy" eggs with toast!! :goodvibes
