So we have jsut booked AKL for the last two nights of of Nov-Dec. The price was just a bit hard to swallow but even if Ap rates don't come out we can swing. My question was we are going for the first time alone as mother (52) and daughter (25) IS Akl worth the extra price? Is it hard to get to the parks from there. Don't get me wrong we are dis savey this is are sixth trip but you know how mother and daughters can fight I just don't want any extra reassons to fight ( Akl was my idea ) Just thought I'd ask Thanks The Perry's:wave2:

It is a great resort - beautifully themed, nice pool, great on-site restaurants, savannahs and animals, etc.

It is a bit far from the parks (except Animal Kingdom, of course) with longer bus rides, but many people feel that is compensated for by the fact that the bus route is not shared with any other resorts, so no time is wasted stopping at other resorts to load/unload.

All in all, I doubt you will be disappointed.

When my daughter and I stayed there (May 2003) we had gotten a postcard rate. That was the reason that I changed our ressies. My daughter had wanted to stay there. This is not the "popular" answer, but we did not like the resort.

The only way to know is to give it a try. I would NEVER, EVER pay rack rate for any hotel room, so if you are paying hundreds per night to stay there, maybe you should try it another time when you can get a discount.

Just MY opinion!:wave2:

This depends on your preferences for a hotel.
We stayed here last year for $140 or so a night savannah view- due to POFQ being closed we were moved. Anyway, it was a neat resort. The animals are wonderful. That being said, I would not pay regular price. We are hardly ever in the room- spend all our time in the parks. The rooms are small for a deluxe- about the size of the moderates we are used to. No problem for us, but again, wouldn't pay full price. There is a lot to see here- storytelling at night, cms who can explain the African details of the hotel, night vision goggles to see the animals......We just don't stay at the hotel long enough to do these things.
The buses were wonderful while we were there- never waited long and they are all direct to/from the parks- don't stop at other hotels.
AKL is a wonderful resort and I'm glad we had the opportunity. However, we just don't spend a lot of time at the hotel and for my family it is not worth regular price...If you stay at the resort more than us I think it would be wonderful and worth it.

I paid rack rate for Concierge last October and never regretted it! This resort is beautiful and unique - a place to enjoy in and of itself.
I got a great AP rate and ret'd during Spring Break. Loved it even MORE than the first time! If you know you want to try AKL then go for it!! It is DEFINITELY worth it!:teeth:

I think it is worth it! DH and I stayed there Spring Break and loved it. We had an AP rate - I can't remember what now - but I would stay there again in a heartbeat and pay rack. It is a fabulous resort - the animals, the decor, the many dining options. We never had a problem with transportation. I think we waited for a bus to DTD for about 15 minutes once, but that was the longest.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice. We are booked for pool view witha AAA discount. It is towards the end of our stay so we hope to enjoy everything the resort has to offer.

Check Expedia too. I got a very good deal for AKL through Expedia and I'm so glad that I did because we all LOVED this resort. AKL is a tourist attraction itself IMO. :)

AKL is truly unique. Boma and Jiko are both great restaurants. It is just so fabulous to wake up looking out at a zebra or a giraffe.

I've stayed at BWI, CBR, POR, OKW, All-star and maybe one other that I can't think of right now. I enjoyed them all, but AKL was the only one that I would unconditionally recommend over the others.

We were there in July and just LOVED it!!! The rooms are wonderful and BOMA is great!

We had a pool view and I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

I think you guys will have a great time!:)

We were there last week and we loved the resort. We had a standard view room and would not hesitate to stay again!

We have stayed there and now I can't get my family to stay anywhere else. We loved it and will be returning in September for a birthday weekend. It is so nice not to share a bus with another resort.
