Is a dyson vacuum worth it?

I have the purple animal Dyson and I love it. I've had it 6-7 years and never had a minute of trouble with it.

When this vacuum dies, I will buy another Dyson. :) I won't ever own a different brand of vacuum.

I bought the yellow Dyson (can't remember the model) a couple of years ago after reading rave reviews about it on the DIS. Maybe it's just the one I have, but I can't stand it. It doesn't do a very good job and looses suction (despite the ads). I have to push down hard on the beater bar to get it to work and even then it doesn't pick up everything.

I'm thinking about buying a new vacuum soon, but have been putting it off because I feel bad about how much money I spent on my Dyson. I think I'm going to be looking closely at Meile and Kenmores this time.

MTE:thumbsup2

The only thing that I would change is the hose. I wish it was longer. (that just sounds sooo wrong:lmao::lmao:)

I just bought a Eureka airspeed. While it does a great job on the rugs, it's way too heavy and hard to manage. It weighs the same as my old panasonic, but when vacuuming, it's leaning and way too top heavy. I also hate cleaning the bagless cup..give me a bag anytime. And two filters to clean and replace. That means no savings on bags..the filters cost more per year than the bags even though they don't have to be changed ofte.

I've had my Dyson for 6-7 years - I've got the purple one made for households with animals. I love it! It has done an amazing job on my hardwoods and rugs. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I can vouch for the "never loose suction" thing. I was vacuuming a little too close to the Christmas tree a few years ago and ended up losing over half of the Tinsel off the Christmas Tree before I was able to turn off the vacuum. :rotfl:

I love my Dyson too! We have a DC07 and paid around $400 for it a long time ago - I think 2004. We got ours from Sears and I remember it was around the time that Dyson started becoming somewhat popular (thus the high price for the lowest model).

Like others, it is the only vacuum that has lasted. We have 2 dogs and a cat and the pet hair it finds is amazing.

It has lasted through carpet, and now laminate flooring, and I have not had to replace even 1 part to it!

To me, it is well worth the cost. I would buy another in a second if something happened to ours.

I love my Dyson. I would definitely recommend one.

I bought my purple Dyson as a refurb red box special in 2005 for $269. It's still going and has been well worth the money. 3 long haired girls & 2 dogs- it stays pretty busy. I do wish the hose were longer and it's heavy but it works great.

YES YES YES!!! TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! :thumbsup2 I bought a refurbished animal one on Amazon a few weeks ago and can't believe how much cleaner my house is! I have hardwood, concrete and carpet and it works awesome on all of them!

My carpet actually seems to stay cleaner longer with the dyson than before even though I have always vacuumed every day. I have 4 inside cats and 3 big hairy inside dogs and don't know how I ever survived without this.

My refurbished vacuum looks brand new and was half the price!!

Every time DH runs the vacuum (it's one of his jobs) I am amazed at the amount of cat and dog hair and dirt that the Dyson picks up:thumbsup2. We used to have a Kirby--but find the Dyson more efficient. If/when this one dies, I'm sure we'll look at a other Dyson.

In February I was in the same place as the OP, needing a new vaccuum but unsure of whether to fork out the money for a Dyson. I have a Kirby that was bulky and heavy and cost more than a Dyson, but just didn't perform well anymore. I have 2 Siberian Huskies, and four cats and had to have something to deal with all the pet hair. Because we will be putting in hardwoods this year, I didn't want to waste money on a Dyson when I may not need it as much as I do now and decided to buy the Bissell Lift Off Pet Vacuum at Target. Thiis: http://www.bissell.com/lift-off-multicyclonic-pet-vacuum/ (although Target's is Red)

I thought it was a bold statement to advertise this vacuum with a Siberian Husky on the box and so I bought it (with the thought if I don't like it I can return it and buy the Dyson), brought it home and LOVE it. Love, love, LOVE it!!! :lovestruc The tools are good (plus my other tools from the Kirby fit), the lift-off capability to turn it into a canister is awesome and the amount of hair it picks up is amazing. It even comes with what we call the flowbee for the dogs (pet grooming tool). Best yet, it was under $200. I wrote a letter to Bissell telling them how impressed I was along with a little video of our husky puppy barking at the husky on the box. They wrote back and said they loved my letter/video and inquired about contacting us to use it for advertisement! Plus they sent me some gift certificates. I am one happy customer with my Bissell and I am so glad I saved money instead of spending triple for the Dyson! (More money for the WDW fund!) :thumbsup2

When I bought a vacuum, Dyson wasn't worth it. I did the research at the time and my Eureka vacuum out performed the Dyson models out at the time for less than 1/3 the price. We've been more than happy with it. That may not be true of current models. You'll have to do the research.

Okay, a vacuum is really kind of subjective....
Different strokes for different folks in what they need.

For anyone who is looking for an ULTRA-clean, true HEPA, zero emmissions, vacuum... And, who is willing to pay for it.... I love my MEILE !!!!! I have seen objective testing that does verify that.

Now, it may not be for those with many pets who feel they need a bagless.

But, it is, by far, the best and CLEANEST vacuum that I have ever seen.

I went to a good vacuum shop. Not just Sears or where ever.
They guy was not recommending Dyson, at all.

Unfortunately, my vacuum is in the shop right now, as there have been problems with the housing/encasement not working smoothly when you raise the vacuum to upright, and then back down. But, it really has been the BEST vacuum that I have ever seen. No question. And, I truly think that this has been a rare glitch with just mine. The guy has always serviced it with no charge whatsoever. He does an annual tune-up.

My Dyson is 6 years old, it's the Animal. I have 1 dog and 3 cats, when DD24 comes to visit we have 2 dogs. (actually her dog was our dog before she moved so he lived with us for much of his life and I had the Dyson while we had 2 dogs and 2 cats) We have hardwood in the living room but the bedrooms are all carpeted, the Dyson works GREAT on all surfaces! We use it in the living room, the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the kitchen....the garage, I've used it to vacuum the cars. It's been a great vac and I hope to get many more years of use out of it.

Mine is about 13 years old but I've had it fixed a couple of times. It's the Dyson Animal. I don't think they are worth it. At the time I bought it I had a golden and 3 cats. I vacuum every day and although it picks up the fur the brush needs to be cleaned about once a month from all of the fur that gets wrapped around it. I would probably go with something else if I had to do it again.

Me,too. After reading all the raves I dug deep i and bought one, too. Loved it at first then the extension pole kept getting stuck. Then the filters became a problem. Now I can't un-extend the pole and put it away just like that. Ugh. I took it to get it fixed and they charged me an arm and a leg to fix it. Two months later, it stopped vacuuming.

I give up. I guess I got the dog of the bunch! :confused3

We have the Dyson Animal -- bought it about 9 years ago and Love it!

I think I'm going to be looking closely at Meile and Kenmores this time.

I am the one who posted about Meile, above.

Have had Kenmores...
In fact, I am using my old Kenmore right now while my Meile is being serviced...

NO comparison.

If you want a vacuum that is CLEAN... not a huffing puffing dustbag... go Meile.

(again, for those with multiple pets and tons of hair, who want to go bagless... this might not be for that)
