Is a dyson vacuum worth it?

So, our old vacuum cleaner is on it's last legs and we're in the market for a new one. I've never actually bought one before - this one was a hand-me-down from my aunt who bought one of the new fancy ones to help clean up all the hair from her 3 dogs. At the time she gave it to me, I didn't have any pets, but now we have 3 cats, all with different hair/fur types. I'm willing to bet it's the cat hair that killed the vacuum.

I've been reading reviews online, and I'm definitely leaning towards getting one of the the dyson pet hair vacuums. We have carpet in all the living areas and bedroom, and ceramic tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. I've also been toying with the idea of getting the roomba pet hair vacuum and let that run daily, and buy a cheaper one to do myself once a week or so.

Any input or advice?

IMHO, Nope. :sad2: Don't get a Dyson.

I have one, and it barely does the job. My Dyson broke after 2 years, and when I took it to the shop to be repaired (thankfully it was still under warranty) the repair guy said Dyson is junk. He felt Dyson has flashy marketing, but their product doesn't really stand up. This is coming from a guy who constantly fixes them! The rotary bristles are too short and they only scratch the surface of your carpet. I asked if it was just my model and he reiterated that he would never recommend any Dyson to a customer.

IMHO, start doing some research out there for the best pet vacuum.

Good luck!

My, yes my Dyson Animal, is 6yo and going strong. DW got it for me because of her Persian and boy does it syuck. No more Persian but the Dyson is still alive.

Yes! I love mine. I am always amazed how much grit the thing picks up. I am a neat freak, so it's perfect for me.

I also had the Roomba; really didn't find it effective. Waste of money.

I agree.

I am usually one of the only ones who says no. I am NOT a fan of them and I think they are way overpriced and they don't hold up or work long term as well as they claim they do.

I HATE mine. It's bulky and heavy and has crappy clearance so I can never get close to or under anything. I had a hose break and it was extremely expensive and difficult to get a new one. My accessories have all cracked and split on the ends and the sucking power is no better than any other vacuum I have had.

Prior to the Dyson I had a Kenmore canister vac..I gave it to my friend and it is still going strong and probably over 10 years old now..maybe older I can't remember. So not just Dyson have longevity.

ETA-I have had mine about 7ish years and I still hate it and I know that my previous vac is still going strong so it is not just Dysons that last a long time.

Yes!! I have the DC13 (not the pet one) I love it!!:love:It is close to 8 yrs old. I got the pink one. I am totally amazed at how much stuff it picks up. We use to always have hoovers--- thought those were great bf I met Dyson. With the Hoover I maybe changed the bag every 6 months or so.
Now I dump the canister every time I vacuum. The attachments are great.

now for the very best part about the Dyson-----

DS13 LOVES to vacuum and clean with it!!!! I don't mean just vacuum but he will take out the tools and really clean all the crooks and crannies of the house!!

I would definitely buy another one whenever this one goes!

I have had my Dyson for 4 years and never had any trouble with it. It vacuums all the pet hair.

We are going on 7 years with our Dyson! We LOVE it and it is still going strong!

Dyson all the way, I have 3 dogs and 5 cats which equals a whole lot of fur, some days I wonder how the dogs have any fur left because there is so much on my floor, I bought the 41A a few months ago and all I can say is it is awesome. sucks everything up.

I say yes, We've had ours for 5 yrs. and Im still fascinated by seeing all that dog hair in the vacuum and wondering why the dog is not totally bald!
We Love ours!

We have a very muddy yard, the dogs get muddy, I clean them as well as I can but heck no I'm not washing them every time they come in from the yard. The extra mud dries and falls off...if I knew now what I didn't know then, I'd never have gotten a bagless vaccum.

DISGUSTING. The dirt is just every where in it, a red brown dusty dirt. In the filters, all over the inside of the container, every time I empty it I have to wipe down the whole darned vaccum. Gross.

If I had mostly "regular" dirt and dog hair, I'd probably love it, but this red dusty dried clay crap and a bagless vacuum sucks...not a pun. :sad2:

I also have a Miele that's a cannister and 15 years old...I think I'll go buy some bags.

I just could not spend that much on a dyson... I bought a Shark its awesome!!! read the reviews for it on amazon... it was about half what a dyson was. :)

Love my dyson. Had it for four years now. Longest any vacuum has held up in our house.

Have nothing but good things to say about my Dyson. Gets the pet hair and it's really easy to use. I've had mine going on 10 years.

If you have hardwood, tile, and carpet a resounding YES. I have hardwood and carpet and have to switch constantly from carpet to bare floor.

I do not love the "attachment" part but mine is over 7yr old and I would hope they made that better.

I do not like cannister vacs unless it is a Shop Vac.

Yes.

I've had a Dyson Slim for 6 years. I also have 4 dogs. It is the best vacuum I have ever had and the only one I haven't killed by it first birthday.

As a PP mentionned, it's short coming is that the attachments aren't great. :sad1:

I love my dyson have never had a problem with it. To me its been a big purple blessing.

If you decide to get a Dyson and you aren't in a super huge rush, keep one eye on Woot. Dyson vacs show up on there every week or two. DC33's go for about $200 and DC25s for about $250.

I have had mine for 3 or4 years. I like it other than the attachments, they are awkward to use
