Is a 2 br @BCV sufficient for 8 people?

We have 2 families totaling 4 adults and 4 children who are between the ages of 4 & 8. I'm thinking a 2bdrm @ BCV so a couple can go out at night and the other stay in and watch the kids. My greatest concern is whether or not we'll be cramped in a 2 bedroom. Any comments or suggestions?

the problem I see with a 2-bedroom is there is only one master.

which you are the member should get.

the other bedroom has either a queen and sleeper sofa - or best case 2 queens....

would it case difficulties with your friends for you to get the master????

I take it your kids are sleeping in the livingroom?

or are all the kids sleeping in the 2nd bedroom and your friends get the sofa bed in the livingroom...

Myself - I would get a studio for each family - then no one can claims they weren't treated right....

You definitely would want to ask for double queen in the 2nd bedroom. Some of the units have only 1 queen and a small sleeper sofa in the 2nd bedroom.
If you get the double queen, you would have a king size in the master bedroom, a queen size pullout in the central area, and of course the 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom. They have 2 bathrooms. I would say this unit would work for you.

For the units with only 1 queen in the 2nd bedroom, the small sleeper sofa would be a tough squeeze for 2.

We went last December, but we stayed at the OKW 2 brms. We were 4 adults and 3 kids, and in my case it was very comfortable. We didn't even use the Sofa bed. So I supposed it depends of how you can accommodate everybody, who's going to sleep with whom.

I didn't realize I could request a double queen in the 2nd bedroom. We would stay in 2 seperate studios but we would lose the advantage of one couple going out for the evening while the other couple babysits since the kids would be split between 2 seperate studio rooms. But, as members, we'll definately request the master bedroom. Thanks for the advice!

OKW units are larger than BCV, and all 2nd bedrooms at OKW are double queen.

OKW are much larger!!!

there are only 25 villa with 2 queen beds - but yes if you can get one - that would solve your problems. they dedicated not lock out - and with small children safer....

You can also get dedicated 2 bedrooms at VWL and they have 2 queen beds. It is a reservation class, not a request.

I don't know if BCV has the same option? Anybody know?

I reserved a 2 bedroom with 2 queens for my brother in January. I called MS 3 times to verify this room and was assured every time the booking was correct. When he checked in, he was assigned a villa with a queen and sleeper sofa in the 2nd bedroom. Since he is completely DVC unknowledgable, he didn't say anything. He was a little bit upset but didn't let it ruin his trip. If I were him, I would have complained. But in any case, they say it is a reservation class but nothing is guaranteed.

I'd either get a two bedroom plus a one bedroom (or a grand villa) or a two bedroom and a studio. You can put that many people in a two bedroom but not comfortably. Sorry

Does BCV have dedicated 2 bedrooms or all they all lock-offs? I think that's the thing at VWL, the dedicated 2 bedrooms have 2 queens, but not the lock-offs. Sorry your brother didn't get the right type of room, at least it didn't ruin his trip! A bad day at Disney beats a great day at work, right? ;)

He got a dedicated 2 bedroom but it had a queen and a sleeper sofa.

Remember 8 is the "maximum" occupancy, not the "recommended" occupancy. Some timeshares actually list recommended, DVC doesn't. I wouldn't WANT to put 8 in a 2BR even with 2 queens in the second bedroom, unless it was at OKW. But circumstances may dictate it.

You've asked the right people. In our case we book 2 bedrooms for 3 of us. Based on this you know where I fall with this. 2 bedroom is too small for 8.

2 adults would occupy the master. The other 2 adults would be in the second bedroom. This would force them to have 2 kids next to them in the second queen or pull out depending on what you get. Now the other 2 kids would be in the living room thus confining the adults to there rooms when the kids go to bed. Sounds cramped to me. The other option is for the adults to sleep on the pull out and have al of the kids in the second bedroom. Adults on a pull out?????? FOUR kids trying to sleep in the same room????? It depends on your needs and wants.

Live it up go for the 3 bedroom if you can get one. :teeth:

We just did 4 adults in a 2 BR at BWV and honestly, when we were all out in the LR/DR area, it seemed crowded to me. And when we ate, it was so cramped. Our home resort is VWL, same scenerio. I have to say, we stayed at Bonnet Creek in a 2 BR just prior to checking in to BWV and that pretty much ruined DVC for me with more than 2 adults in a non-studio. I don't know what they (DVC) were thinking about (well, yes I do, $$$) when they designed that dining area. I cannot imagine 8 in a 2 bedroom.

We had 8 people for a birthday celebration (for me!!) and we got a 2 BR and a studio at OKW. Now that worked out just fine. We had plenty of room when we were all together eating and playing in the LR. Yes, OKW is a great place for big groups!

My suggestion: 2 BR and a studio at OKW :thumbsup2

It depends on how flexible everyone is, and how much togetherness you like. We go to Food & Wine every fall as a group of 6 adults and get a 2 bedroom and a 1 bedroom. That may be a bit more than we "need" but everyone is comfortable.

I think it depends on what is important to you. If sleeping is the main thing, then I don't see the problem. I've never known any kid between 4 and 8 who has walked the Disney parks all day that could care less if they were sleeping on a sofa. I assume the adults would have the King Bed and the Queen bed. What is the big deal with the two children in each family sharing a bed, being a sofa bed or a queen bed? If you are concerned about them fitting (they still sound small to me) then bring an Aero bed for the floor.

As for all of you eating together, are you planning on cooking and eating at the room? Seems to me if you don't waste your money or points on extra bedrooms, you could eat out every meal! But that is just me. I don't want to cook or clean when I am on vacation. And I would take the smallest accomodations I could get to spend more money and time outside of the room.

I say go for it. It serves your needs and you may feel somewhat cramped, but who doesn't feel cramped in any room away from your HOME. Of course, If you are staying 10 days it may seem really cramped after a while.

One other thing. How well do you get along with the other family? That may be the biggest factor of all!

Happy Planning.

Some points I have thought of, for you to consider:

~How well do you get along with the other family? If they get on your nerves, then go for a 2BR at OKW. It has more space.
~How much time are you actually going to spend in the room? If you are basically just eating breakfast, going back to change for the pool, and sleeping there, then it's probably fine. The kids are small. You'd have 2 adults in the master, 2 adults in one queen, 2 kids in the other queen, and 2 kids on the pullout. As far as who gets the master...he who owns the points gets the good bedroom!!!!! ;) It's a little tight space-wise in the livingroom/kitchen area, but it's not like you're all going to be there all day long. As far as meals...there's a table, there's a breakfast bar thing, there's a balcony with a table. Unless you feel the need to sit around holding hands singing Kumbaya at meals, there will be plenty of seating. If the kids don't all want to share beds, some of them can sleep on the floor. Bring sleeping bags or use the couch cushions to make a little bed for the smaller ones.

That being said, unless you are absolutely married to the idea of staying at the Beach Club, OKW rooms are larger and more conducive to groups that are closer to the higest recommended number of people. Plus, the point cost is less. Of course, the OKW location is not the BCV locaiton, and that may be a deal-breaker for you. If it is, I think you'd do fine in a 2BR.
