Is 72 yo when contract expires too young ? My contracts for DVC expire when I’m 72. Do you think you’ll still be wanting to stay at DVC in your 70s?

We're both 70 and have been DVC since 1993 so we bought when we were almost 40. We haven't been as much in the last 10 years since the kids moved out but now that we have a grandson we have plans to go every year until it expires in 2042 when we are 88. Hopefully our health holds out. Our only regret is it will expire when grandson is 21. I almost want to buy a new contract now so he can continue going after we are gone. But the prices now seem exorbitant, it was only $12,000 when we bought our 230 points and we got free park passes for 8 years. So to answer the question, we will always want to go to Disney and won't sell even when its getting to the last few years.

We have 4 home resorts with staggered expiration dates, 2042-2070. They’ll begin falling as we approach 70. RIV may very well outlast us but we think it’s a great place to have as a home resort when we’re older due to the compact footprint and skyliner access.

I am anticipating a decrease in the amount we travel as we age but I know we’ll still be going to WDW.

Look at it this way, you hit a home run when you could and even your grandkids will grow up with these wonderful vacations as a result. Who knows, in 2042 your kids may be looking at picking up BCV/BWV at that point

We're already in our 70s and still enjoy our DVC. The first few years after we both retired, we visited at least twice a year but didn't always stay onsite (we have other timeshares). We've had to cut back the last couple of years because one of our kids, who works nights, bounced back with a child in tow, so our vacation time is limited, and then age-related health issues have begun to pop up. We're looking forward to taking a different child/spouse/grandchild in January and hope we'll be taking them again regularly. We also hope to see our BWV expire, but we'll be in our 90s by then, so who knows!

I’m in my 50s too.

I get really grumpy if I have to wait longer than 3 months before going back to Disney.
Everyone is different, which is sort of the point. We can't say whether the OP is going to find DVC too much at 72, or at 62 or next year, or if they will prefer other vacations. A Disney fan board is likely to skew towards your take, but we've lost plenty of members in my twenty years here who have "Disney'd out."

Agree. That’s why I’m trying to avoid getting too crazy with points, but it’s very hard in my current state of mind :)

Are we talking 2042 resorts?
The question is whether 72 is too young to have one's DVC contract expire. For us, yes, it's too young because we're there, and we still like having and still use our DVC contract. For others, to have their DVC ownership expire when they're 72 would be just fine, because they're no longer interested in using DVC ownership.

ETA - the OP is not talking 2042 resorts; they own resorts that expire later than 2042, but they'll be 72 at the time.

I will be 87 when my last contract expires (CCV in case you want to age me!). The majority of my points (BCV, then SSR) will be gone by the time I’m 73. I very much hope that I’m fit enough to continue travelling in to my 80’s, but should that not look likely by the time I hit my late 60’s I would sell CCV and Poly I think while there are still enough years left on them to be worth something (hopefully 🤞)
Similar situation for me. 87 when my BCV expires. Planning to be there the last year. My SSR contract will probably outlast me however. :(

We are just buying into DVC now and I will be 71 and my husband 80 when our new BRV contact expires. We actually were okay with 2042 resorts because of what our age will be then. In a few years I'd like to add another contract at a resort that expires further out, but it will probably be a small contract that allows me to go maybe every other year then. That would probably be enough in my 70s-80s.

72 is exactly how old I am this year. We bought in 2002, and are still using our contract, but more so for going to Hilton Head. Theme parks don't appeal to us so much. We'll be over 90 when our contracts expire. We sometimes wonder which will expire first-us or our contracts. We have enjoyed taking our grandchildren to WDW, but even they're in school now, and involved in other things. If your contracts expire before you, at least you don't have to worry about whom to leave your points to!

I will be 70 and DH 74 when our HHI contracts expire. I would have preferred it expire about 10 years later because I feel like we will still be going there. We also own AKV which will expire when we are 85 and 89. We only keep this contract to use at HHI since we don't go to WDW anymore. We will probably use it a couple of times to take future grandkids at some point. In 2042, we will either sell AKV if we don't think we will go to WDW anymore, or we will use the points to travel to WDW for resort stays. HHI is a little harder to get to (even if flying, you must rent a car and drive about an hour); whereas, we can fly to WDW and use ground transportation. So in our 70s and 80s, we may decide to keep our AKV contract and use at WDW just because travel there would be easier; otherwise, we will sell and continue driving to HHI for our vacations.

Yeah, if your alternative was a Disney wedding, you honestly should just buy DVC…probably saved some money! We got married in our front yard with like…10 people total…so that’s where we saved money.🤣 It was no Disney wedding but I think it was one of my best investments. Hopefully your DVC wedding was the same. 🙂
Love this!! We had a very small family wedding also, the 28th is our 57 yr. wedding anniversary and this was also our best investment yet. Our memories were great, our pictures were great and we were/are happy - what more can a person ask. Had many years of vacation memories (still are going) at Disney but not with DVC cost. To each their own.

Congratulations on 57! That is amazing!

We will be 84 (me) and 87 (hubby) when our 2042 Vero Beach contracts expire. Hope we make it to the end! All of our other contracts (OKW 2057 extension, RR, and VGF) we won’t make it until the end, but our son will! We plan on using our DVC as long as we are able and walking the earth.

I’m in my mid 60s and feel like I will definitely be going to Disney in another 5 years. I’ve been going regularly for about 10 years now. I’m also trying to travel to many other places while I still feel like it. Not knowing how old you are now, how many years will you want to go to Disney? Go for the expiring at 72 date. You should be able to buy into it again if you feel like it. We have friends in their mid-70s who are currently traveling in Eastern Europe. You don’t know what the future will bring and is it a problem to keep your options open?
