Is 72 yo when contract expires too young ? My contracts for DVC expire when I’m 72. Do you think you’ll still be wanting to stay at DVC in your 70s?

We purchased in our early 30’s (OKW in 1992). We haven’t missed a year of visiting (we don’t rent our points) and very often now visit twice and sometimes three times a year. We are on the east coast and could drive (we will do this eventually I think), but the flights are only two hours. Recently retired, we are looking forward to overseas travel, but WDW is definitely in our plans as well. We can foresee enjoying it with our grandkids for years to come and making a lot more memories.

My mom visited WDW well into her 80’s; she was 88 on her last trip. Everyone ages differently. I know I inherited her love for travel and hopefully her longevity as well.

My mom and I talk about this sometimes. The majority of our contracts expire in 2042, so as we have added on we think in terms of “legacy" points for my children/grandchildren. I keep telling her “no more 2042 resorts” so we have added on at both VGF and RIV, plus we own a slug of SAP at AK.

The real question is whether we will go halvsies on whatever BC2 looks like. She’ll be 90 at that point…so kind of hard to justify a 50 year contract…

I just bought RIV last year as my backup for when my BWV points expire and I'll be 82 when that happens. So I'm definitely hoping I'll still be going to Disney in my 70s and 80s. If not my daughter will happily use all the points.

I do believe 72 is too young to have your only (or last) DVC contract expire. But a lot can happen between now and then, and some new resort may come online or you may fall in love with another resort so who’s to say you won’t add on in the meanwhile? 😉

VDH will expire when we are triple digits (and I am sure we’ll be in the ground already 🤣🤣🤣). I’ve always said the contracts will go to whoever pushes my wheelchair around in the parks 🤣🤣

I mean, how many average jobs out there can realistically afford DVC? There are probably higher percentages of DVC owners who are MDs, lawyers, and higher up Amazon workers, etc than in any given average city.
Thats the key word here, realistically. I am sure there are a huge amount of people that buy in that cannot afford it, this is why the direct guides are trained to sell you on price per month w/ financing just like a car salesman.
How many doctors we got in here? 😂🤔
Not a doctor, or a lawyer. No student loans to pay back either so that helps!

I'm 60 and own at SSR, BRV, RR and AUL, and while I'm not planning on being around when RR ends (and probably not AUL), I'm also not planning on fully retiring until I'm 70 (I'm a consultant so I am arguably semi-retired already LOL), so taking trips to WDW or HI (as well as other destinations) beyond my 70's and well into my 80's is definitely the goal.

I am very confident that when my contract expires, with me in my early 70s, I will want very different things than I want now.

If I want to go to Disney world a lot still, I’ll figure that out then. Or at least much closer to then.

Trying to guess what early 70s me will want (beyond Legos) seems nuts.

Yeah my last 300 points at RIV will expire when I'm 79 in 2070 lol. I'll have to wait closer to that time to decide. I'm planning for the next 20-50 but anything after that is so hard to plan for!

I'll be around 75 or so when our contract expires... Part of me is thinking any other contracts I'd get would be 2042s... 18 years from now we can figure out if we are still using DVC and care enough or not...

Ayyy we're roughly the same age, it makes me feel better I'm not entirely crazy for having this many points at our age 😂. Now I can point you out to my wife and be like see! We don't have THAT many points 😂😂

Lol then you're welcome! We definitely do not have a problem 🤣

I will only be 60 when my BRV contract expires. I could definitely see us buying a different contract with a later expiration (like CCV) between now and then. Or purchase a new BRV contract if they have them after 2042. It really depends on how my health is over the next decade or so though. I'm not sure if we'll keep going to WDW a lot when we're older or if we'll mostly stick with Disneyland. If we don't feel like we'll go enough to rationalize another contract, we'll just pay out of pocket and not go as often.

I will be 78 when our VGC expires. I really do hope to keep going to DLR basically until I'm in a nursing home or whatever. But I suspect once our VGC expires, if we're still feeling up to go to DLR, we'll just pay out of pocket for hotel visits after that.
