Is 60 day FP+ booking for length of hotel stay or ticket?

Will I get 60 day FP+ booking based on the length of my stay in disney hotel or length of the ticket I purchase?

I will be booking 2 or 3 days to stay in a disney hotel but will be purchasing 14 day ticket as we will be here for 14 days (from the UK).

I heard a rumour that the system would allow me to book 60 days for FP+ based on my hotel stay date but would then extend until my ticket expire. So if my hotel is from day 5 to day 7 checkout, I would still have 7 days left on my ticket and so the system would still allow me to book 60 days not wait 30 for the reminding days. is this true?

We recently booked our Fast Passes for our length of tickets even though we only have one night on property booked for April and we have 7 day tickets. At our 60 day window, the system let us book two days, then after that, one day at a time opened up.
