For that money, I would spend a week in WDW, and then a week on the cruise in a category 4 or lower stateroom. (Assuming that you can take two weeks). Personally, I love luxury accomodations, but $11,500 for a stateroom seems really steep to me. I agree about any price for quality family time, but the category 3 is not the only option. I think you can have that same quality family time for half the price.

Of course, that is my opinion. Everyone gets to spend their money however they see fit. If you feel that the perks of being in a category 3 versus a category 4 are worth the extra cost, go for it and enjoy! I'd rather keep the difference and put it towards more quality family time.

Good Luck with your decision. I'm sure you will enjoy it no matter what you decide.

We are a group of 12 and have 4 staterooms booked for the Dec 31st 7 day Disney cruise, which will cost us $20,000 including taxes. These are for Category 8, outside rooms/no balcony on Deck 5 or 6.

I believe prices are highest for Christmas, New Years and Easter holiday periods.

So a cruise in January, even in a higher category, shouldn't cost $11,500 for just one stateroom based on quad occupancy. I would check around for a better price and see if you can apply it to your reservation.

The price is a bit too expensive for my taste. Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't spend that much money on just a room. I'd definitely do the Magic but just not spend so much money on the room. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, WOW! I am limited to the time I can take away from work and since July 4th falls on a Tuesday in 2006 I would only miss Weds- Friday since we will close Monday and Tuesday. On our last two Disney Cruises we stayed in a Cat 4 and it was very nice, just a little crowded. I wonder what the cost benefit would be for two Cat 6's? Anyone have any idea???

Being from CA; I would say save money on a lower priced cabin and still have money left over to take a trip to Disneyland and visit the sites in CA !

I've gone on three DCL cruises. Not once did I spend less than what you're talking about.

And I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

No regrets.

When we started cruising with the family back in '99 we had a group of 6. We booked two cat. 6's and the cost always came out about $2000 per person except for our youngest daughter. That price would include port charges, taxes, insurance, air fare, transportation to the port and a prenight stay at the Hyatt.

That price of $2000 per person jumped to $3000 per husband and I and daughter a little less than $3000 when we started getting into a cat. 3. Now it is even a bit higher. We have checked with other lines because I always read you can get the rooms cheaper but we have not found that to be the case. Our air fare out of Des Moines is high so that adds to the cost but we always want a mini suite and other lines are costly too. You just have to decide if it is worth the price. One thing I have noticed is that with each passing cruise we spend less and less on board--we even spend less at the ports of call. Kathy

I don't think 2 category 6 cabins are going to be less than the 4 of you in a Cat 3. (I gave a quick look at the prices.) What I usually do for clients is to book an inside cabin across from the balcony cabin (as long as the kids are old enough and don't need to be in an adjoining cabin). I don't know what age your kids are, so I don't know if that's even an option for you.

A cat 4 is $9400 for the same cruise. I might as well spend the extra $2000 and have the Cat 3. Thanks everyone for your input. I booked directly with Dis Cruise, do you think by going to a travel agent it would be a lot less? If it is not a sizable amount I would not bother.

Wow, over $16 K for a Cruise?, had to read post twice, thought I made a mistake.

Here's the novice-cruiser question: $3,000 - for spending money, plan on bringing any back??? The entire L/S package I priced out for 2/06 (category #7) was under $3,200. Seem like a real bargin now, even including air, car & misc.

Perhaps I'm niave, but I thought cruises were fairly all-inclusive. I'm aware that alcohol, excursions, souveniers, spa treatments, tips, and whatever are "extra" (lot of expensive jewelry perhaps?) What did I leave out in my budget?

To each their own . . .it's your money, enjoy.

I have taken my twin girls on the 7 day crusie for 4 years straight. They were 4 when we started. I have NEVER regretted one dime spent on the Disney Cruise. Yes, you are spending waaaaayyyyy too much but I say if you got it, spend it. Don't skip ANYTHING the cruise offers. Every moment on that boat is worth gold. I've stayed at various Four Seasons and Ritz Carltons and believe me the Disney Cruise puts them all to shame. Go, have a ball, and book in advance for next year for a better price!

I am a room snob. If you can afford it - go for it. I like nice things and the idea of not spending much time in the room is not true for me. If I feel crowded (as you did in a Cat 4) I cannot be comfortable and will not enjoy the cruise. I would rather spend the extra and enjoy myself. I dream of staying the Walt Suite.
