Is 100 at AKV a good idea?

I am seriously thinking about buying for the first time. Ultimately I want to stay in California for majority of trips. Should I just wait to see if I can get points at GCV when they are out for the public or buy now with a different resort? I can't afford 2 contracts at this time. Any advice would be great.

If you want to mostly stay at Disneyland, wait for the villas at the Grans Californian. There won't be all that many units there so the ability to book ahead of the masses will be important.

Remember. You are doing a great job of being rational. There are AKV points on the resale market. There wil be GCV points, others will overextend. Even if you have to pay a slight premium, it'll be cheaper than GCV+AKV

Definitely wait. It will be close to impossible to get a 7 month ressie at GCV for the next few years as there are only 50 2br lockoffs and they will go quick. Many west coast would be DVCers have been putting off buying to wait for GCV.
East coasters like me are putting off a DL trip until we can try for DVC, as DL hotels are not a great use of points.
All adds up for you personally may NEED GCV points vs. "generic 7 month" points to beat out the masses and be satisfied with your purchase.

I read that approx 600,000 points will be for sale at GCV. If they do the 160 point cap like everyone is predicting (can they really impose a cap?) then 600,000/160 = 3,750 buyers assuming each buyer buys exactly 160 pts.

How many Founding Members are there? Next the rest of the DVC members get a shot, how many are there? Naturally, not all of them will buy. Then its open to the public.

Of course, if there is no cap then...

No clue if the 600k figure even makes sense considering the # of units available, I'm a newbie and too exhausted to try to compare the total # of points at each DVC resort against the # of units available per resort. I'd be surprised if someone didn't have this figured out already though!:scratchin

The GCV points will be available to buy no doubt, there is plenty... but if he has AKV points only the likelihood of getting GCV at the 7 month window is gonna be really small. Thats why I advise to buy gcv points when they are available.

Do you think there will be enough points available for the general public?
Yes, I do. IMHO, it will take many months for GCV to sell out.

Don't let the hype push you into doing something that isn't really right for you and your family.

Thanks for everyones input. I think I will wait for GCV to go on sale to the public. That is where we go every year so that makes the most sense. The space available definitely gets hyped up but we will take our chances:) I will just watch the boards and see how the timeline progresses.

Just wanted to say hello from WA! It's always nice to see another west coaster -- good luck with your decision (wherever you end up at!). :thumbsup2

I'm a victim of the hype!! Argh!

Although I am now really looking forward to being an AKV owner, I would not have considered it had I known about the 160 pt GCV cap.
