Irrational Disney fears.

On my last visit I had wandered over to Tatooine Traders to get a gift for my nephew while the rest of my party waited in line for TOT (didn't feel like riding it for the 4th time that day). I decided to take my time walking back so I wasn't just sitting around waiting for them, so went the long way round through the Streets of America. It was getting dark out and there was literally not one other soul around. I was so creeped out because it definitely seemed like the makings of a horror flick where someone gets slaughtered while a whole group of merry makers are just feet away. So now my new fear is somehow finding myself in a deserted area in the park (which doesn't happen too often I know but you'd be surprised at how many areas of seclusion there are!)

I don't think I have any irrational fears, but I sure do have real ones.. snakes, gators, getting stuck on the monorail for 30 minutes with no A/C .... and having a panic attack.....

Here's one I hope someone can put to rest for me. I've been fretting over bringing my DS3 on Splash Mountain. I know he's a brave little trouper and I love the ride to death, BUT! I worry about restraints, and the difference in body mass. He is JUST 40", and this is his first trip. I am going back and forth with myself over bringing him on or not. I'm afraid the lap bar (I read the put one in recently, correct me if I'm wrong) will not hold him on the plunge. I've always braced myself for the drop...but it's been almost a decade since I've done WDW and Splash mountain. Can he literally sit next to me, or are there grooves in the bench to seperate riders kinda like bucket seats? Is the lap bar one bar, or two seperate bars. I'm a single mom and there's not going to be anyone to 'swap' with, so I can go, so I hope someone can provide me with pictures or information so I can make an informed decision before wasting time on a fastpass for this one, or missing out if I'm making too much of this. :surfweb: Halp!

All three of my kids have been going on Splash since they met the height requirement... and there's nothing to worry about. They went long before there were lap bars. I believe the bars were put in to prevent people from jumping out, not to actually hold people in during the drop. They ran that ride for a good twenty years before adding the bars and I never heard of anyone falling out on the drop. I think the force pushing against you is enough to hold you in the boat. I think at WDW there are grooves, but we've fit 3 in the seat in the past (before the lap bars were installed... not sure if you can still do this) so you can scootch him over if needed. Really... nothing to worry about.

This has probably been mentioned elsewhere, but the slope on the big drop at Splash AFAIK is 45 degrees. While not negligible, I think you'd almost have to try to fall out (i.e., do something you've been told not to do).

Re: lap bar fears, my oldest niece rode with me on Thunder Mountain years ago, and she is A LOT smaller than I am and the bar stopped on my leg. This was before the cars had even the slight lip/door on the side that they have now (seems like the design changed - or maybe it was just panic before), and my arm was literally the only thing holding her in. That was not a fun ride, believe me.

slipping out of lap bars, getting stuck in a shoulder harness thingie in an emergency.

And, do I have the tickets/KKTW card/ID/Boarding pass/passport etc? really, do I have them? Let me check again... Ok, do I STILL have them? ... How about now, do I have the tickets??

I have a fear of birds. I think it stems from an unfortunate event with a peacock when I was younger. Birds just don't like me and I have decided to reciprocate the dislike. I mean their little pointy beaks are scary and could peck my eyes out.

So I am a little jumpy eating outside, especially at Disney and the beach.

This makes me laugh....only because I have all these irrational fears, and my husband thinks I am outta my mind!!

1. I hate Dinosaur...I have never kept my eyes open for the whole ride! After I get off the ride and look at the picture with me practically laying in the floor hiding my face in my kids lap, I realize wow what is wrong with you!! But, I do it every time!!:rotfl:

2. I get totally stressed on Splash Mountain, I always think that when we go down the hill we are going to smash into the boat in front of us!:scared1:

3. The animatronics in Pirates freak me out!:scared1:

4. I always think Space Mountain is going to chop my head or hands off...so before we get on the ride I lecture my kids about not EVER raising their hand on this ride!!!:scared1:

5. BTMR....I always feel like the train is going to come off the track!:scared1:

6....This one is my biggest fear....I completely dislike Rock n Roll Rollercoaster....I am so afraid that the restraints will fail and when the ride ends one of my kids will be gone because they fell out!!:scared1:

Really...after reading this I laughed again and considered deleting this, because clearly it sounds CRAZY...but, I will let you all have a good laugh at my expense!;)

Intrigued to read about others with the concerns about jumping and afraid of heights. Mine is worrying me or someone I am with will fall off the hotel balcony's or out a high window!!

My theme park specific fears are:: Logs rolling backwards down the hill on log flume rides, rafts tipping over on river raft rides, and an arm falling off the octopus rides!!!

Please people, don't ever read the web sites that list all the amusement park accidents and fatalities, that is what did me in!!!:yay:

Maybe I'm the only one who has any type of irrational Disney fear... but mine is that I am so afraid of being under a monorail when it passes by. I am paranoid that one day one is just going to zoom off the rail and crash and I'll just happen to be standing underneath it when it does. If a see a monorail coming above me, I get the heck away from that monorail. :sad2: I know it's crazy, but I can't help it...

I HATE the monorail! I'm not so worried about it falling on me, I'm worried I'll be on it when it shoots off the rail! :scared1:

Thank you so much! I was trying to strategize doing a one arm hold on him on the way down.

On Test Track, as you are heading for the door to the outside track...I am scared the door won't open and we will crash into it.

And I literally close my eyes the ENTIRE ride of Dinosaur:scared1:

I triple check my kid' belts on ToT, Soarin', Everest, Big Thunder...I am terrified that they will slip out!

When I ride the Dinosaur ride, I worry about getting stuck in there and one of the cars will come crashing into us. This happened to us when we rode on the TA and we suddenly stopped and another comes crashing into us. :scared1:

We where on a packed monorail one time and it stopped for like 5 mins.... i kept thinking it could feel it swaying and was waiting for it to tip :/

The face characters all freak me out. My Dh insisted on a pic with Cindy a couple of years ago and as I got close all I could see was the amount of makeup on the woman, which led to me thinking what does she look like without it. Then I pictured the woman out of costume looking normal and shopping at Target and here I was getting my picture taken with her. :scared1: I run when I see princesses now.:confused3:sad2::laughing:

I love Test Track and had never thought about it, but one time when we rode with friends one of them commented what if it did not slow down at the end after you go fast. Now everytime I ride it, I find myself getting a little nervous on that part until I feel the brakes start working. If I go flying through the air at Epcot I want it to be on Soarin not Test Track.

On ToT, I'm deathly afraid of the middle 3rd row seats - you know the one with nothing infront of you. Also if the car is not filled, I have to sit between the BF and the edge of the cage (or another person).

I also have the shared fear of missing tickets/key cards. I don't trust myself since I don't carry a bag, nor have a wallet. Once my credit card fell out of my pocket at the store and was lost, so the poor BF has to carry those too.. and my cellphone and anything else I worry might fall out.

My husband said that he sometimes wonders if the Tower of Terror isn't going to stop when it shoots you up and he's gonna blast through the top of the building. :rotfl2:

Everytime I go on rock n rollercoaster I think my harness is going to unlatch when we go upside down- not my favorite ride but my family loves it.
