Isn't it just your favourite chore~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~NOT!

Oh how I just hate ironing. Do you - or does anyone actually like it!

My mum used to find it theraputic but isnt able to do it anymore.

I used to have a lady do my ironing (I know, I know - when I gave up smoking, I used the money I saved to indulge myself and have my ironing done!) but sadly she is very ill now and isnt able to carry on so I am back to doing it myself.

DS has these awful Levi Twisted Engineered Jeans! OMG - they are horrible to iron, has anyone else tried to iron them ---- do you manage it? LOL

It is mainly DS's stuff that is the pain, he spends such a lot of money on his clothes, and you would think they would iron nicely, but no! £120 on a pair of Burberry Trousers and they look like dish rags!

Ok - calmed down now. LOL

Do you have any bits that you always leave till the end, and then find you just can't be bothered to do them and leave them till next time???

Do you stand and iron all in one go, or do you do it as you need it.

Do you do your ironing once a week, or as and when it is dry (as you probably should do so that it doesn't pile up and become a nightmare!

Do you iron Sheets/Pillowcases........Tea Towels..............Underwear!!!!!!!!!

Reveal your ironing secrets - please - I need inspiration here! LOL

Sorry Janice - I can't give you any inspiration as I DETEST ironing.

I also had used to use someone who used to take 40 items and have it returned nicely pressed for £14.00. The only problem is that we moved out of the area and she won't pick up or deliver, I can take it to her but I never get round to it

I iron the kids stuff every Sunday but it depresses my hubby as he says it reminds him of when he was a kid and Sunday night ironing by his mum meant back to school the following day.........

As for the rest - I give all my DH's shirts to him to iron while he's away (well it gives him something to do!) and I sometimes iron my stuff as and when.

I know people who iron pj's and knickers - but puhlease! I try to get away with ironing as little as possible.

I have a HUGE and I mean HUGE toy box which is full of bits that have been left to do "at the end" but I never get them done.

Basically I'm a bit of a ironing slob, I don't have a problem with being called Waynetta (Harry Enfield The Slobs)!!!

;)

I HATE Ironing, but I am very lucky having 3 daughters they do it between them, so I don't have to . I may iron now and again but not very often.

Don't laugh but it's me that does ALL of the ironing in our house! - true!

It's down to a division of labour as DW works so much in the evenings and she doesn't do my shirts properly.

I tend to be "on a mission" and do it all in one hit.

No - I do not iron socks, pants etc - but I'm a dab hand at most things.

Oh - I tend to do everything on full heat and full steam, so anything that's 100% nylon or thin I don't do.

So....do you want to send the stuff round to our house for a small fee?????

I hate it too! The only good thing about it compared to other equally tedious chores is that you can watch telly while you're doing it, or listen at least.
Men's shirts are definitely the worst- my other half does his fair share but when it's my turn to do the shirts I could scream- he has this cotton shirt from Next that just will not iron nicely no matter how many buttons you press on the iron- steam, spray etc.- now he refuses to wear it as neither of us will iron it!
I would never iron underwear, tea towels etc. but I know people who do!

I am also a "hand wash only" phobic. I have about 6 items that have been in the bottom of my linen basket for over a year :o - I have worn them once and have never got around to the joys of washing them in the bath then having them drip all over the house for days- what are you meant to do with "drip dry" stuff?? I am so lazy I would rather just not wear them again!

For the record I do iron Tea towels, dusters, dish clothes and sheets!

But DW is also very very lax with hand washing!

LOL Shaun - we need to negotiate a Fee! LOL

Lindsey - Hand Wash/Drip Dry and Janice does not equate!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Actually - a few years ago I had a couple of really nice jumpers that were hand wash and dry flat that had been bought for me and I loved them so much I just had to get on and hand wash them. DH made me a sort of frame work that fitted onto the bath. Just a length of copper tube (he is a heating engineer/plumber!) bent into an oblong shape that fitted the bath resting on the edges. I got an old net curtain and stretched it over and stitched it in place - voila! A drying rack for Flat Drying smalls! It worked quite well.

Now here's a subject I can get to grips with.

I do actually have a cleaner who does the ironing - however I'm just about to give her the push as I'm hardly at my place so it never seems to get that dirty.

I have a new Disney Pal (well what else am I supposed to call them?!) and I ironed his shirts at the weekend (coz I'm nice like that and also I find it too painful to watch men iron shirts, no offence Shaun! ;) and well it took me the best part of an hour to iron 6 shirts and 7 hankies.

However I really like ironing hankies, pillow cases and tea towels coz they're real easy.

Anything that I think looks too dodgly to iron I have dry cleaned - extortionate I know.

Now talking about the bottom of the linen basket - I have a cocktail dress that's been there since August '99 now there's a confession!!!!

I'm one of those strange people who likes Ironing as long as I have a good CD on at a decent volume;)
The only thing I hate Ironing is trousers:mad:

I HATE ironing with a passion, so dh mostly does it. Ditto washing and he is very good at keeping on top of it. Funny you should mention this today though, Jan. Dh has been slacking lately - he's keeping up with the washing, but not the ironing. We do it (the ironing, that is!) in our spare bedroom and the bed had disappeared, so yesterday I decided I was going to do it. I started at 9am, had a half hour break for lunch, and finished at 4.15pm!!!!!!!!! I am a perfectionist though which doesn't help. And I iron tea towels and sheets - I always think I won't, but when it comes to it I can't bring myself to leave them. I stopped doing underwear and towels years ago.

Shaun - you and Matt will have to swap tips at the next meet! ;)

my dh does the washing and he's very good and getting it all through the washer and the dryer, but then it goes into the enormous ironing pile and only emerges when someone wants to wear it!

I got fed up on Monday and did a lot of ironing - I don't mind too much if there's something on the telly - and I must have ironed for 4 hours and I only did about a third of the pile!

I don't intend to iron anything that doesn't really need it, but since I am standing there iron in hand, I often run it over things like vests (although not knickers!) and tea-towels. I don't do sheets, or duvet covers far too difficult- and the towels are the one thing that get put away without even going into the ironing pile.

Well Janice you've got a lot to answer for!!

I decided to get the ironing board out today but I got out the extension lead, put on a pair of shorts and a bikini top and did my ironing in the back garden!

My only incentive is to get a tan whilst the weather is like this.

Lisa ;)

My ironing pile resembles Mount Everest :D

I have to iron very often and I always seem to have a lot of it! Three guys wearing shirts every day and lots of kits, T-shirts etc etc, two sons who play loads of sports......... well you know what it's like! The trendy trousers the boys wear are a real pain to iron - yes, I think I dislike ironing trousers most too!

LOL Janice DD has the very same Twisted Levi jeans. I think they should have a warning on them...They are a nightmare aren't they...;)

At the moment my ironing pile isn't that bad, as I just stood the other day and did half of it. I find if you put some decent music on when you are ironing, it helps you along..:)

OK i have a confession i am one of those people who iron there socks, knickers, DH vests and boxer shorts, yes i iron everything, i would rather iron all day than clean and it is great with a few good programmes lined up i can iron infront of the TV for hours!!!!

OK i better go and hide now!!!! I am sure it was just because of what my mother taught me:)

Eda

Thank goodness for Shaun doing the ironing!

As he said everything gets ironed max heat, max steam - I've lost a few good blouses over the years!

But it's almost worth it to get all the ironing done!!

Well, I don't mind ironing as long as there's some music on to sing along too!!

I won't iron underwear, nightclothes, duvet covers etc - what a waste of time !!! I use the tumble drier to make life easier and just wait till there's a reasonably pile and then tackle the lot all at one go!

Now, there should be a thread on the worst household chore - I truly detest hoovering my stairs, and in fact, never do them!!!! (well, unless I really, really have to!!) :)
