Ireland 2024

Got our email guidebook yesterday for our June trip. Any idea how far out they send out the "gift" boxes?

waves hi from Dublin, while I havent been on this trip, I am from Ireland , so fee free to ask any general questions :)
Bad Pink Tink, will you give us New Yorkers a wave via the new portal that opened yesterday? My son and his girlfriend went by to wave to some Dubliners. I am planning to check it out next week. We visited Dublin during our Ireland last spring and fell in love with the country.

Hi, yes I will be in that area on Monday and I am planning to go have a look :)

Sorry, Sayhello. I should have explained or put a link in my prior post. I'm guilty of doing what my mother-in-law always does; talking about people and things as if we should know what she's talking about.😊

Booking the hotel room the night before our flight arrived was very helpful since we landed before 6am.

The guides were excellent - everything went smoothly. We loved the mix of touring and free time. Happy to answer your questions.

Any restaurant / pub / etc suggestions for the free time meals?

7 days!

We've been home a week now and still missing Ireland and the Adventure terribly. Guides Leisha and Melissa were amazing. The whole trip was incredible. Better than we hoped for and worth every penny. We had a full 40, about 10 of them kids (youngest was 6, oldest was 16). Bus was very nice. Driver Tom was a magician and fantastic. Had great weather, lows in the 50s, highs maybe hit 70 once (a local Irish person complained that day about the heat and humidity, we just laughed in Floridian -felt like January to us! 😂), only a few drizzles here an there until last full day at the cliffs with off an on rain, but a few gaps during our time at the cliffs so we could still see and get photos - and then get blasted by gale force winds so strong you could barely walk and swirling wind - it was great. We arrived a day early and got in time to see the zoo, the Book of Kells, and a Viking Duck Boat tour (hilarious fun). Made the trip much better having that extra day to adjust to the time, highly recommend.

If you haven't done the Ireland ABD, we cannot recommend it enough. 11 out of 10. Didn't want it to end.

Golf4food I would love to hear more about your tour. We are going on this in late August. Looking forward to it!

I have a question about tipping. Do the guides prefer their tips in US dollars or Euros?

The only legal currency in Republic of Ireland is Euros. We are a Western Europe country with a standard of living the same as America. Why would you think YOUR currency is valid in my country???

Gosh - pretty sure that you can tip in whatever currency you want. Currency can be converted, if the guide doesn't use the currency you give them. And one of the guides is usually a US guide - so dollar would be fine there. But, yes, for the local guide - local currency would likely be preferred. Ask the guide.

Bad Pink Tink 2.0 - I'm pretty sure that the person who asked this question knows that dollars aren't the legal tender of Ireland. No need to get snippy about it.

Because many of the guides are American, and they may be returning to the US or going to other countries after the trip ends. Why would you assume your currency is valid on their next trip, or where they live?

Well then next year, I'll just bring Euros to tip when I'm in California, as currency can be converted

Stop. You're making too much of a simple question, which applies to ABD trips all over the globe. To answer the legit question : I generally bring local currency and US (in amounts covering the suggested tips and then some) figuring if I need either for unexpected events/purchases, i have it.

Ask the US Guide what is preferred. On my recent Barcelona escape, I tipped the local guide in euros. The US guide preferred cash over PayPal, and said either USD or Euros was fine. For NZ, the US guide was Ok with PayPal. So each is different.

Maybe I didn't phrase the question correctly. My apologies. I was just trying to figure out how much cash I needed to bring in both US dollars and Euros.

Yes, thank you!

We sent our Ireland guide Euros in Paypal. We sent our American guide dollars in Venmo. (Partly because I brought the wrong debit card and couldn't get cash out of any ATMs. Never "needed" it. Would've used it to tip room service easier.)
